Big fire at Animal Friends

Just 10 days ago I posted that the staff building at the Animal Friends shelter caught fire and today I found out that last night there was another bigger fire that engulfed the main animal shelter this time killing 30 cats, 3 dogs and 4 puppies. Two fires in 10 days, it sounds very suspicious but they’re saying both were electrical fires. It’s very sad that some animals died but many more were rescued and are currently being held at the Royal Animal Hospital next to the Friday Market. I’m curious to why they were not placed at the International Veterinarian Hospital (IVH) which is A LOT closer than RAH since it’s located right before Wafra.

They’re now in need of more help and donations than ever so please if you can spare some time they desperately need volunteers tomorrow to help box all items that have not been fire damaged so it can be moved to storage while the shelter is rebuilt. If you are able to help, please call Olivia on 97377867.

If you can donate some money here is the bank account information:

Thats really sad that they have reached this state! Strange two fires in a row like this!

These poor animals and people! The have it rough enough let alone all this to happen!

May god help them!

I hope that the mother fucker who burned it down (ITS NOT ELECTRICAL!) watches all his loved one burn to death in front of him. I then hope he himself has a very slow and horrifically painful death.

Now in the unlikely event that it is an electrical fire yet again, then those in charge at AFL need to be severely punished. Those moronic idiots should have triple checked the wiring after the first incident.

May all those kitties rest in peace 🙁

@Mark,

IVH management (not the vets) are heartless people who are never interested in stray or rescue animals. The only ‘discount’ they give is 5.5KD/day instead of 6.5KD/day. This ‘discount’ only applies for hospital stay (not the treatment). I’ve had this problem with them in the past and even spoke to the owner who callously replied that Kuwait is full of strays.

I think that those with the resources to donate security systems, smoke detection systems/alarms, and webcam facilities DONATE NOW to AFL. They should be able to remote monitor the shelter AT ALL TIMES. It would be even better if they could install a 24/7 webcam so that all of us out here could help monitor the safety of the animals. I would be willing to do that.

Yeah, whats up with the IVH heartless owners!!! Their vets are fantastic.

i was there last week and donated some clothes. I saw the animals and they have two adorable pugs for adoption. Also,it took us ages to find the place. Please put your address and map on your Animal website. Its 35KM off exit 306 in wafra. There are no signs

I imagine IVH is too expensive and snooty to offer their services (that said, I love their vets and establishment – it’s an arm and a leg everytime I go there though).

They didn’t have anyone check for arson?

My Poor baby cat I had to give him away to Animal Friends last month because he cant stop fighting with my dogs! I wounder if he still a life :~( please help me know?!!! I feel so sad
