Borat song played instead of the official national anthem

Frankom posted a video of what looks like a sporting event that took place in Kuwait recently and the girl who came in first was from Kazakhstan. Instead of playing the official Kazakhstan national anthem during the flag raising they mistakenly played Borat’s version of the anthem which I found hilarious.

The look on the girls face is priceless, she’s either thinking “wtf are they playing?” OR “damn it not again!”. [Video]

Update: The original video was removed from YouTube so I’ve uploaded it again and updated the links.

I am shocked that she didn’t feel offended or uncomfortable . why she didn’t protest, raise her hand, made a gesture, done something to show there is a mistake!! she acts like nothing is wrong.

She was clearly offended and uncomfortable. It even looked like she was fighting back tears.

But just for the record, i heard that this happened before somewhere else as well. I don’t recall in which country but I heard about it on the BBC. lol

btw, it happened to Kuwait as well abroad when they played our Emiri music instead of our current national anthem. and also happens alot that they mistake the old Emiri music (which was instad of national anthem) with another song that uses its tunes and was released during the invasion!

I think I read that too, someone else messed up their anthem. He played a Ricky Martin song…..and ended up getting fired.

If the Kuwait anthem was supposed to be played but the Borat one was played instead…it would no longer be hilarious or priceless.

Ok. A tourney abroad takes place and Kuwait scored 1st place, and instead of the Kuwaiti anthem, plays the qit3a thalatta3sh theme. How many would find that funny?

How is this not outrageous to you? Wars sprung for way sillier reasons than this, and its evident that its a douchebag mistake made by someone’s cousin who goes to work once a month that probably downloaded the track off a torrent

That is such a stupid comment. Kuwait has one any gold medals in many tournaments in the region, in Asia, and in the world. So get your facts right first.

Agreed. It’s not about “having a sense of humor”; it’s about laziness and pure ignorance. How hard can it be to do proper research to find the real thing? It’s profoundly disrespectful.

“Kazakhstan’s prostitutes cleanest in the region.
Except of course Turkmenistan’s”

This just took the word fail to another level! I’m sure the person responsible google’d/youtube’d Kazakhistan National Anthem and didn’t listen carefuly.

Stupid, very very stupid!

or playing Haifa’s “Boos Il Wawa” when Lebanese national anthem should play….

still the Borat thing…funny!!!

hmm, they can argue, the music was comicly dubbed..
if not, they’re tethering with diplomatic protest.
hope all are naive, then it’ll be calm.

This was shot and uploaded yesterday.

It took me 2 minutes to realize the EPIC mishap. The poor girl was laughing her head off when the music started playing.

The video was shot with a Samsung Galaxy S2 and the LCD is a Sony Bravia, Thus the unusually clear picture quality for A KTV channel

Thanks Mark for blogging about it. Hopefully Sacha Cohen Baron will know about it now 😉

أتمنى ككويتي لو كان الفيديو مفبرك..لكن هذا إللى صار و يمكنك التأكد من منظمي البطولة إذا تعرف أحد منهم وتلفزيون الكويت إللي نقل البطولة أمس

that was outrageous! I can’t believe how stupid that was, or that person was, or his supervisor was, or the whole fucked up ministry was! and they ask for a raise or they’d strike! I just wanna clarify one to the Kazakhstan people that he who did that doesn’t represent any of us (Kuwaitis) so I hope you’d accept our sincere apology.

I’m going ahead and deleting the Video. I have no intentions of causing more harm. Kuwaiti officials did apologize to the Kazakh team after the incident.

Borat himself would have done the same thing for his country. I Am A PROUD citizen of the great country of Kuwait.

@bojaij follow me on Twitter if you are a very bored or a very drunk Arabic-speaking Legal Alien living in Kuwait. I hope google translate works this time around.

Cheers Mark!

It may sound funny to you, but if I was in her position, I would have taken it as a big insult and stormed out of the event.

“Reports say the film is also banned in Kuwait.”
“the tournament’s organisers had also got the Serbian national anthem wrong”.
Talk about being criminally idiotic.

lol actually majority are linking to a youtube upload, my upload is on dailymotion but thats also gotten nearly 10,000 views today so they also must be coming from somewhere. You should have kept your video online not sure why you deleted it.

Quite few Kazakhs didn’t find it funny from the Emails I got, and they politely asked me to remove it if I was sincere about my apology as A Kuwaiti. Personally I started feeling guilty for causing more embarrassment to the girl, who I’m sure had the worst day in her life as an Athlete, and was hoping that no one was watching A Women Shooting championship on a Kuwaiti sports channel.

Sacha Cohen Baron probably knows about the video now, so lets hope his next movie will be about the funny side (All sides?) of Kuwait

Thanks again from spreading the video

I don’t know why some of you idiots are so excited to be on gizmodo and bbc. This was humiliating for an athlete who deserved better. It shows poorly on this country and further emphasizes the incompetence we’ve grown accustomed to dealing with.

People like you are the fart smell that wafts into the car when I’m showing visitors around Kuwait.

Why not get excited for international fame for doing something right and well? Instead of garbage like this?

And for the record, I loved the movie. But let’s move on people. Stop spouting quotes like its 94 and your impressionable little 11 year old brain just watched The Mask.

As some people mentioned online, this mistake actually brought the girl attention (over 2 million views on youtube). If it wasn’t for this mistake no one would know who she is or anything about her achievement so there is kinda a bright side to all of this.

This incident has been reported on BBC and now I have friends from around the world asking me questions on Facebook. It’s a really stupid thing to do and I cannot dismiss it as a mistake, as this is something that has to be done right. It is downright humiliating and inconsiderate.

This is stupid, offensive and not even remotely funny, and yes I do have a sense of humor. As for it making her famous, only losers would want to be rememberd over something idiotic like this, imagine her going for a TV show, and instead of discussing her Olympic achievements and goals, most of the interview is about that incident.

Don’t you know? If you dare criticize something someone else finds humorous, you automatically have no sense of humor. There is only one universal sense of humor, after all, and nobody is allowed to find different things funny or ever criticize someone’s crappy source of amusement. It’s not like you could possibly have a legitimate gripe or something – nope, you’re just humorless!
