Dean & Deluca Being Renovated

Over the weekend I passed by Avenues and noticed that Dean & Deluca was closed. I assumed they were expanding their restaurant and so I sent them an email asking about it and turns out they’re creating a new look and adding new areas for pizza and Pasta. The renovation should be completed by September which means they’re sadly going to be closed during Ramadan. I usually pass by them during Ramadan for their ready made dishes but this year I guess I’ll have to make do with my horrible cooking.

I thought that Al-Shayi3 just wanted to open up Starbucks considering there aren’t any at the Avenues.

How is it that you review so many restaurants, and so many different kinds of dishes, yet you claim that you’re a bad cook? If you have professional taste buds, then you should manage to whip a decent meal without saying that your cooking is horrible. Happy ramadan ;p

i don’t think i have professional taste buds since i can’t tell why something tastes good or why something tastes bad. I can’t even tell the ingredients apart.

The timing is way off. They could have postponed it till the start of Ramadan at least when people are fasting half the day or started on it early so that it will be done by Ramadan. Ella el7een? I usually do a lot of Ramadan shopping in Dean & Deluca for quality ingredients, its the month of food after all 🙁

No, we don’t live on dates and water, but certainly wouldn’t go as far as calling it a month of food, rather, it is the month of Feeding! Danderma, you are a great cook, from what I see from your blog, and it would be AWESOME if you could help with the feeding others the meals you’ll be making, happy ramadhan!

It IS a month of food. Don’t kid yourself and go all righteous on me please. It is the months of fu6oor family gatherings and ghabgat PLUS sending food to the poor. Many families cook huge quantities to send to the local mosques to feed those poor workers. What do they cook? Cans from the pantry?

I am not a great cook, not even a cook. If I’m to feed the poor, I would do it for those poor people and for god and not to “advertise” it. It is the way its supposed to be. That does not mean I shouldn’t miss Dean & Deluca for providing gourmet food I could use to feed myself and my husband. After all god said for each fasting muslim there are two things to make him happy, when he breaks his fast and when he finally meets god. Am I not supposed to be happy to eat?

ma gilna don’t be happy to eat, of course we all eat and we love food but Ramadan is a month of 3ebada that includes breaking your fast on good food and feeding the needy, not gorging/indulging. the point of fasting is to feel for the needy and teach yourself discipline, not go loading up on food like it was the apocalypse.

you have a very snappy way of replying, by the way. ildinya b5air. take a chill pill, no need to be so catty.

Mark, it was beyond their control. They had to shut down due to ongoing construction at the phase III of the project. New D&D hopefully will be bigger & better once it opens up in the table top area (now covered).

@GG But does many of the products in this store sell to this market? I would think not? This is not a market where people entertain or have a refined pallet for food like the UAE.

“Refined Pallet” in the UAE? D&D does worse there.

Also there’s nothing refined about some of the stuff they sell, it’s overpriced without tasting better, just some stupid buzzwords tossed on to make you feel better about spending more money on normal ingredients

You would think that Ramadan with the eating laws would hurt these types of establishments economically, but it appears not to, because many are able to close like this for renovation which seems to be common. I still think that fast food chains with windows should be able to open all day for takeaway during Ramadan like the UAE.

It does hurt them, they close for renovation in Ramadan because they won’t be making much money that month anyway.

What D@D could do whilst they are in the reconstruction mode, is to do a kiost with common Ramadan items in front of the store during this phase. It could have some of those ready-made meals that Mark likes or I noticed that the Syrian baklava sells well at this location which is a good Ramadan gift item. So it could be a specially decorated Ramadan kiost. I have issue with the management at this mall, they need to be more concerned with their vendors and address marketing.
