Dogs being killed by poison

Yesterday there was a very depressing article in Kuwait Times about how dogs are being poisoned to death in Kuwait deliberately. The poison isn’t killing only stray dogs but it’s also killing peoples pets since the poison is being placed all around the parks without any warning to pet owners. Here are some excerpts from the article:

“After a walk in the local park, my dog began foaming at the mouth and shaking. I remembered that he had run towards something that had taken his interest in the park, and realized he had ingested poison,” recalls a French expatriate. “His legs were dragging on the way home and for once he was not pulling on the leash, but I did not realize what was wrong. By the time we realized it was too late, but there is no emergency animal hospital here so there was nothing I could do but watch him die,” she added.

“I cannot let my dog run freely around the park anymore because of this. I caught him eating a pellet of poisoned food, and luckily it was not enough to harm him,” said Khaldi. “Since they are unwilling to stop placing poison in the parks, I asked that they at least put up signs to warn pet owners. They even refused that, insisting that it would be too much effort to place a sign every time they planted poison.” Unknowing pet owners have suffered the consequences as a result. “My friend’s dog ate the poisoned food and died because of it. It’s not even humane euthanasia: the dog died over the period of an hour, foaming at the mouth. It is a slow, painful death.”

I find this news extremely disturbing. I have a dog myself which I take to the park every so often but there is no way on earth I would take him again. The fact they’re placing poison in parks without any warning is very dangerous. How safe is it to come in contact with these poisons considering people have picnics there? I’m gonna end this rant with a video of a puppy being saved after being trapped in a pipe overnight. Hopefully someone from the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources watches it.

That is just sick!! Sick is not enough to express this madness!! Where did humanity go? Why are innocent animals killed?? This has to be stopped!! It’s unbelievably disgusting to me!! My heart goes out to those who lost their pets due to this madness!!!

I don’t know that the government does it, but I do know a neighbor’s dog got poisoned by another neighbor doing it.

Don’t let your dogs eat random things people

This news extremely disturbing indeed.

Islam not only has laid down the rights for humans regardless of race, color, language and riches, but has also laid down the rights for animals. Animals, like humans are one of the creations of Allah(swt). Prophet Muhammad(saw) was not only sent as a mercy to Mankind but as a blessing to all creatures as the Quran testifies:
We sent thee not, but as a Mercy for all creatures. – [Quran 21:107]

Narated By Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “While a man was walking on a road. he became very thirsty. Then he came across a well, got down into it, drank (of its water) and then came out. Meanwhile he saw a dog panting and licking mud because of excessive thirst. The man said to himself “This dog is suffering from the same state of thirst as I did.” So he went down the well (again) and filled his shoe (with water) and held it in his mouth and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for that deed and forgave him.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving the animals?” He said, “(Yes) There is a reward for serving any animate (living being).” – [Bukhari Vol. 8, Book 73, #38] & [Muslim Book 26, Chapter 39, # 5577]

My cousin had a somewhat similar experience. She worked at a stable a few years back and had her dog with her. They had poisoned meat put outside the stable to kill stray dogs. She couldn’t get to the hospital on time and her dog died because of it. It was devastating to say the least.

FAK ! that’s bullshit ! why would they poison dogs ? that is a crime i guess isn’t it ? does Kuwait hate dog’s or something ?.. now where i will take my dog for a walk ? on the street or treadmill.. XD

This is disgusting, I can’t even understand why they would do this. This is inhumane and disgraceful, shame on them.

I have never been a dog person but I find it extremely unpitiful really torturous. These people Allah yente8em menhoun, made the effort to purchase the poison, place it in serval places in god knows how many parks, but consider it tiring to place a warning sign of the poisons beneath… ?

This kind of pisses me off. Stray dogs aren’t even that big of a deal in Kuwait! Most of the dogs you see in the street are owned and lost, but instead of returning them to their owners, they kill them? Well, I feel SO much at ease now.

Thanks, government of Kuwait. My mom works for the public sector. OUR money is going to s**t like this, instead of education, medicine or anything humanely important. Say for instance, I don’t know… homeless people? Working conditions? ANYTHING?

Nope. Just dogs. Ba6ee5.

Perhaps we should poison their machbus and not say anything. Nobody wants strays in our government.

My Three Saluki dogs were murdered the same way back in Qatar !!! the Idiots put the poison all around the beach YES Right on the beach, you were able to see seagulls, cats and a large variety of animals including pelicans dead due to their stupidity!!!!

Horrible, inhumane, disgusting! This isnt Islam, this is just cruel.
From an Islamic perspective, there’s a hadith about a woman who gives water to a stray dog and rescues it, and how Allah forgives her for all her sins by this noble act of kindness.

two different hadiths:

1. one talks about a sinful woman giving water to a stray dog… she was forgiven…

2. the other hadeth is a woman who trapped a cat not feeding it and not letting it find food on its own .. or stray around and eat from the earth… she went to hell as i recall..

please research it

Actually there was two.

The woman with the cat, and she was Muslim by the way.

And Jewish man who was lost in the desert and he found himself a well. He went to the bottom of it to get some water with one of his shoes. When he got out out, he saw a dog, lost, just like he was. He thought in himself; if I was that thirsty and were about to die, how would the dog feel. Hi went into the bottom and got him some water too.

Two stories, in short:

Woman tortures a cat and goes to hell for it.

Man gives water to a thirsty dog (while he was also thirsty, in the desert, if I’m not mistaken), and gets rewarded for it.

Be advised they also place poison in residential areas near trash cans, walking paths, wherever they feel the need.

All children are at risk as well as anybody who walks their pets.

Can the owners of the dead dogs sue the authorities? I would love to see this happen. I don’t know Kuwaiti law, but the emotional stress of seeing your dog die must be worth serious $$$$. I wonder what will happen when the first kid dies.

I am against poisoning of animals like that.
But I am also against allowing your dog to “run freely in the park”. I had a few incidents with people not being able to control their animals.

*now dog owners will be tempted to comment on how well behaved their dogs are*

You must think you own the world… I can understand few incidents with pets if you dont like them, but the whole planet is habitated by humans and animals… so get used too!!!

Actually I don’t think I own the world. And I do understand that the whole planet is habituated by humans and animals. And I do understand that there are laws and regulations. A concept that may be foreign to you.

What you need to understand is that if it is not a dog friendly park, then you are breaking the law by taking your mutt there. So get used to it!

+1

I saw many insistences where dog owners let their dogs run freely terrifying walking pedestrians or families enjoying their time at the park.

One kid got mulled by a dog and was sent to the hospital to the ICU. The owner and dog ran away.

Dog owners: PUT THEM ON A LEASH, or leave them at home.

I only take my dog to few places when there is no one as I know the issues of people who dont want to deal with pets, also becasue I think its Annoying for others… I understand.

Also my dog go on a leash all the time as he is so hyper and I cannot control him, but I guess not all owners behave the same way.

Nevertheless the post is related to the poison and we should not change the topic… as some people said, your family may have a picnic in the same place the put the poison.

How about the dogs that are harassed so much by kids that they become scared of kids? I’ve seen it so many times…kids throw rocks at dogs, beat dogs to the point where the dog cannot act civil around children. The problem is the poison, but the real problem is that people are ignorant.

You should never treat any living thing violently. In my eyes, people are more dangerous than dogs that are owned or stray.

Let’s not forget all the “gizzing” and “racing” that keeps causing accidents and eaths. The fighting in malls over the silliest things. “shfeek it5iz”. Sound familiar? Dogs are not the problem. “We” (people) are the problem.

I’ve never met a violent dog. Only dogs that have been treated badly by their owners and end up violent or dogs that are abused constantly by children. All dog owners will know what I’m talking about. It’s not foreign to see children throwing rocks at dogs and dog walkers on the gulf road pathway. Kids sneaking up behind a dog and pulling their tail when you’re not looking.

I am ashamed that we humans are acting this way. Wake up and do something better with your time than poisoning poor stray animals.

I fear a baby or child will end up eating some of the poison and we’ll see how lightly people take it. I don’t know who is responsible for this. Doesn’t matter if it’s public or private entities…Allah has their punishment waiting for them. I urge the Kuwaiti government to do something about this ASAP.

and to justify…i don’t own a dog here in kuwait, but I do have respect for all living things.

be it dogs, cats, mice whatever…if it is alive we need to respect it.

i can’t believe how some people can be so ignorant to the life of a living creature.

i have known about this poisoning for quite some time, i’ve seen and heard many stories about it.

it’s a shame we as humans have resulted to this. really, it’s a shame.

my family doesn’t got on picnics in these places..

Secondly, families don’t eat stray dog food poisned and thrown under a bush ..

these dogs I empathies with them.. but I have seen many cases of dogs nearly killing humans or permenatly injuring them .. as I have seen dogs being abused by people.. its not a one sided issue…

get dogs of the street then.

Yes, Dogs being poisoned “deliberately” is an important case in Kuwait. The fascist government of Kuwait cannot deny their extremism against canines. We all know how racist(if this word applies) our government is against this particular mammal family. I personally – and on a daily basis – see Cats and all felines roam the streets without any kind of persecution. This injustice needs to be dealt with, I no longer can stand our government’s favoritism against Dogs.

But, Mark, I also would like to express my unease towards your attention to canines. I just find it disturbing how you ignored all the corruption and killing going on the Middle East region. Thus, I demand more attention to Parrots. They, at least, don’t have a flat personality like dogs do. Unfortunately, I know you would point your finger at me and call me a Dog hater.

Well the mistake of 1 dog owner affects every animal lover… Dogs as well as other animals when kept home most of the time and goes out only one’s a week, they become excited, that’s why people who have phobia from dogs take their action in a negative way. Pet owners should be watching their dogs carefully and prevent diaturbing other walkers and joggers…

Not only dogs does people have no mercy in them. Almost everyday when I go out I saw cats smashed run over by cars and they just lie their in the middle of the road lifeless….murdered!

I love dogs more than man, they are man’s best friend, i can’t believe what is happening in arab countries !!! they treat dogs with no respect. The exterminate all the dogs found stray !! I hope all the dogs get REVENGE.

So when are they gonna solve the problem with cats? There must be at least one street cat for every human in Kuwait.. Imagine the rabies out there!

The thought that the poison used is so potent that it is practically killing dogs before owners can get them home or to a vet is so extremely disturbing! What if some small child is playing in the park and picks it up? Maybe they don’t eat it, but they have it on their hands, which inevitably will get into their mouths. If stray dogs are a problem, set up live traps, bait them, and just catch the dogs , and cats too, I suppose. Then at the very least, if they don’t want to spend time, energy, and effort on finding them a home, they can euthanize the animal and dispose of it. Not that I want animals killed like that either, but I also don’t want poison, or dead poisoned carcasses around where they may come in contact with people.

This is absolutely ridiculous. What if someone’s pet eats the poisoned food? What if a small child touches it and goes onto eat a candy bar without washing his/her hands?

Killing animals via poison is inhumane. Placing posion in public parks without any warnings in Arabic and ENGLISH is just STUPID!!

Kuwait is such a small and rich country. I do not know why they insist on lagging behind in so many areas when they can easily do things to global standards and norms.

All public parks/areas where stray dogs might gather. It could be anywhere.

I heard Mishref walking track was where one expat’s dog ate poisoned meat.

Better to muzzle your dog?

i didn’t read anything of this article but just wanted to tell you that mine died because the idiots at ROYAL HOSPITAL gave her a vaccine earlier then she died dehydrated.. I took her twice after the vaccine and she slept there for 2 nights then died at home when the ROYAL HOSPITAL charged me around 100 KD for 2 nights, I had to get her out cause i couldn’t afford the treatment anymore I spent in one week around 250KD and eventually she died in her bed eventhough i know that ROYAL HOSPITAL should’ve treated her for free.. it was their mistake and they charged me for it :S I would never recommend anyone to go to this slaughter house

I’m sorry for your loss but to blame a vet – especially one of the best in Kuwait – for your loss is a pretty strong accusation. And then you want them to treat your pet for free?
I know many people that take their pets there (including myself) and I’ll never take them to another vet. They always take great care in treating our pets and I always recommend them to our friends.

Yes when I asked the vet should I give her the vaccine now or should I wait for another month and the doc says no it’s ok u can give her the vaccine now and then she got sick in the same day well what do u think was it my fault or theirs?! I am totally sure they killed my Dog! I would recommend that u review what I said carefully… I don’t wait to treat my dog for free I wanted them to fix their mistake!!!

Stray dogs are more dangerous than cats because of their greater ability to transfer rabies to humans. I don’t agree with the government on poisoning them, though. I think they should be trapped and if they are harboring any disease, humanely euthanized. Unfortunately, the Kuwaiti government always wants to take the method that would require no work on their part…

At the very least, we can tell our friends and family about this so we can all keep an eye on our pets and toddlers.

Guys. they still humans in Kuwait – albeit women, and foreigners at that too. Do you really expect them to think twice about animals?

Perhaps you are right but is very rare to see stray dogs… Like I have count them with my fingers… Cats are everywhere…

poison in parks is wrong no doubt about it ..

but ..

walking pets in kuwait’s parks is prohibited by law

plus .. no one clean after their dogs here .. so stop comparing kuwait with western countries ! where people have plastic bags for their dogs $h!t !!!!

thanks, i’m honestly surprised there is a law against taking any pets into the parks. i’m not surprised they hate pets, i’m just surprised someone actually took the time to draft this law.

Currently i live in dubai .. They have the same law .. No dogs in parks , beaches .. People are walking their dogs in desert .. Literally desert !

This has been going on in Kuwait for years.

It is not very different from the way racehorses are killed if injured in Kuwait. (Look up T-61)

I compliment the Kuwait Times for finally taking a stand on behalf of people who care. I spoke to a journalist about this over the weekend. She says they are doing more investigating to determine who is responsible. Again, it is the blame game between PAAFAR and the Municipality.
