e-GO

ego

MTC-Vodafone just launched e-GO today. Its a USB based internet device thats the size of a small phone and allows you to connect to high speed internet wherever you are. It works with Windows and Macs which is a good thing for me since I have a MacBook. Hopefully I will get my hands on it to try it out. [Link]

Hope they give you one soon to try out… after having my finger’s burned by Wataniya, I’m not spending another KD on any internet service in this country until it’s proven to work… at the speeds they claim.

mooch yeah but wnet worked really well for me and terribly for you so it might end up being the same with mtc. it might work out perfect for me and in your area it still might end up being slow…

shoosh nope but i am guessing under KD100.. but its just a guess

Mark: at least if they let you have a trial run. For example, I’d be happy to pay for 1 month service, to check if it works for me. But with Wataniya for example, I’d have to pay 120KD up front for that hardware, only to find out it doesn’t work. Wheras if I could try it for a month, then return it if I can’t use it… I’d try it for sure, and probably end up buying.

:: Sorry to say …. MTC SUCKS !

e-GO = النهاية
How ? what is “Alnehaya for” hehehe how lame btw i knew it coz every shops that deals with MTC annouce for that data card that i have and they redcued the price from 99 to 70 ! again what is the relationship between e-GO and Alnehaya ??? LAME LAME LAME ! hehehe

moocherx : i have a wireless card from wataniya its work on HSDPA the monthly subscription is kd 28 its great the speed is v.good for my use
but the edge is slower than the HSDPA
try the HSDPA by transfering your wireless from edge to the HSDPA .

:: Waiting for what? i mean with my data card it was workign fine ! okay now i called them someone told me it costs around KD60 for the USB and KD20 per month unlimited usage

the speed around 3.6mb and 7.0mb !! hehe

I wonder why at the end of each product intro, Mark ends the paragraph with “Hopefully I will get my hands on it to try it out” hmmm….

guys i don’t have any clue about “bytes per seconds” stuff, but does 1.8 or 7.5 mbps considered fast?

Now, am using 128 kbps from United Network!
Which is better the one am using now or the one that mtc is offering?

ok heres the lowdown
16kd…. per month on yearly contract…. 5 giga per month limit

20kd per month on yearly contract- unlimited d/l– 55 kd termination fees

60 kd for usb kit

Corp membership

2 kd for sim card and 14kd umlimited d/l..+ other conditions

Speed – 1.8mb+
Whatever tht means… coz no1 wants to talk bout data thruput speeds!

just had the same info from MTC as im3vil:
The unit is 60KD (HALF the price of Wataniya)
The speed is 1.8Mbps across Kuwait
You must sign a 1 yr contract, and 2 options are available:
– 16KD per month, 5GB cap
– 20KD per month, unlimited
If you end the contract early, there is a 55KD termination fee.

BUT also told that the 1.8Mbps (HSDPA) is available across ALL of Kuwait (not just patchy, like Wataniya)

I was talking to a co-worker about it today.. yes it costs KD 60 for the device and you pay KD 20 per month.. that’s what he told me ..

but seriously.. is it fast connection wila 7achi (just talk) and it covers el shalaihat?

20 KD for a 1.8MB wireless connection?
That seems like crazy pricing.
If it works as advertised, it will be what Kuwait needs to finally bring DSL prices to realistic levels.

i think the major difference becides speed ofcourse is with WT’s you can connect several computers but MTC it a Single USB….am i rite?

it seems like it’s very very fast.

but am sharing my current internet connection(adsl 128 kbps) now with my brother at home. can i do the same thing with this kind of connection; i mean, can i create a network/share the internet with my brother by using this type of connection(HSDPA)?

Experts :), looking forward for your answers 🙂

finally, something that will work – i trust mtc… they claim 7mb+ soon near future!

cost for hardware KD60 and monthly 2 rates depnds speed – either KD 16 or KD 20

I heard the “Al-Nahaya” ads with the 83% markers were reffering to the fact that MTC has almost reached its end and will soon no longer be MTC and will be rebranded (without Vodafone) to “Al-Zain”.

i try the e-go the speed is v.good it is faster than the HSDPA for wataniya but the canelation fees its too much kd 55

The question is ….. (drums please)
Would it work in SALWAAAAAA … Wallah i’m so sick and tired of 128 connection speed. So could some one in here tell me which one should i go for. Wataniya or MTC e-go??

Man i can wait to buy E-go .. wene of its expenses … well i had da sierra wireless 775 with wataniya connection … man damn F**k it sucks like S**t …. In fintas da max speed it like 1.8bits/sec …. and dey said it wood work at 220kbps …. dang cant sign in on msn, cant download any thing, no online games … 6months i suffered and finnally disconnected it …. now am just collection cash to buy da E-go with unlimitied ul/dl …. any one had similar experience wid sierra 775/wataniya EDGE … can share it with me .. mail me at [email protected]
Mash’kouuuurrrrr
Sparko

just a little info,

this 3.6mbps (7.2mbps after 6months from now) is just wan speed, like you lan speed when you plug the network cable (10/100/1000mbps).

the download speed in bytes never exceeded 100 kilo bytes per second (not kilo bits) with me.

the maximum capability of the connection is ~450 kilo bytes per second (kBps) but i dont think it will reach that much in kuwait.

my openion is: it sucks, but it is a good sucker.

note: WARNING!!! DO NOT SURF pr0n SITES OR YOUR CONNECTION WILL GO DOWN FOR SOMETIME. DOWNLOAD INSTEAD WITH EMULE AND UTORRENT. F U to mtc for intruding our research privacy… :D~

Of course its fast, at first. I have the edge connection which has been slowing down over the weeks and days such that now I actually believe it is slower than dial up. Like anything in this country investment is minimal in infrastructure (lowest bid mentality) which means that as more and more people subscribe to this there will be no increase in bandwidth and it will inevitabley slow to a grinding halt. Just think 5th ring road on a wednesday at 7pm going into salmiya – a new road everyone will want to use. I am confident that the in initial high speeds will end up with a service just as crap as edge or anything else they provide.

Im in Salwa block 12,,

the ego sucks here big time! i get connection then lose it, then even when i get full service the download speed is terribly slow!

its not worth the money, thats why they added a 55kd cancellation fee!! tehy knew users would want to cancle after they test it.

lame mtc!!

hey pll did sum one buy dat e-go thingy … please lemme know … i want to make arrrangements to test it in my area (fintas area 3 behind da navy base) sine i had a very very very very very very bad experience with sierra 775 card and w-net edge connection … i wanna make sure i am going to buy a solid connection since i earn very less n 90% of my salary will go in buying that e-go .. any body kind enuf to lend me his e-go device to test it at my place please email me at [email protected] …. will be very happy if some one does

PS:Mark ,… dude i know u can help me on this one … please find sum one who can do da above mentioned

Just to get an idea behind all the hype. What are the actual download speeds on e-go?(Theoretically on 1.8 ‘Mega bit per second’ connection, the maximum possible download speeds are around 230 ‘Kilo bytes per second’)
Is anybody actually getting speeds close to this? A friend of mine wants an opinion from someone who’s actually used the service. The main problem with most of the wireless services is the packet loss and connectivity issues. Is the coverage around Kuwait comprehensive or limited to certain areas? I doubt if anybody is really inclined to spend 60KD on a device that could end up being a hood ornament.

I just got it and it works great as far as I can tell, eGo also allows you to send and receive sms. costs are 60KWD for the hardware and 16KWD (for limited traffic 5GB) or 20KWD for unlimited web-traffic.

the price is mentioned: here it is again
60 kd for the device
20 kd per month for unlimited connectivity
16 kd per month for 5 GB data

Has somebody the ISP settings for MTC? I have a Express card for my Macbook and the sim card but I need the settings ti connect.

Jens

i live in salwa b1, the signal is good, actually it isnt matter of signal, even if it shows u 1 bar, the bandwidth is slow from the mtc itself. 3.6Mbit is the WAN speed, not the actual internet speed, that was in my concern b4 i buy the e-go, i asked the seller, she told so much lies, she said dloads will be going in 512 kilobytes ps, while the actual average download is 100 kBps. sometime reaches more than 200, another bad thing is the big latency values, i cannot play my counterstrike games on kwt and UAE servers. ping goes beyond 200 and i get kicked, and voice chat sux coz of high latency. if u plan to get e-go, it is only good for downloading things. like i share this e-go between 6 computers. all downloading OK. downloading day and night, and downloaded around 80 GB in 2 monthes, YEAH MTC I DESIRVE WHAT I PAY FOR.

Hi hi ^_^

Well I’ve been looking into getting e-go for a quite some time but I really need to know one thing before I do play it since I don’t want to waste money on something that won’t do me any good.

Is e-go any good when playing online games? Precisely MMORPG’s such as WoW, FFXI etc… Since that will be my main reason of buying (even though my dial up seems pretty flawless till now… besides the long downloads)

e-GO works fine transfer rates are between 150-200 kbps in Kuwait city same thing with W-net aircard 850 however i find the Wataniya service to be more stable than MTC but both have a problem in Salwah specially block 12

guys, this is true the e-go MTC (ZAIN) is very good and speed is good too the offer is so nice that yesterday i went and not even counted the money i gave to the man there, hehehh

hai,

i brought this.this is a good one having good speed.but the problem is this will not work on some windows vista editions.

TheVamp:
HSDPA connections have high DL speeds but upload is only as good as Dialup. Online games will be laggy cuz they require both UL/DL. Hoever, i still use hsdpa for PS3 since FiberOptic routers have a DNS error with PS networking. it’s good for that use but always keep in mind Latency (ms lag) will only be good if the server is close to you physically.
Reroll EU servers imo

Hey guys, just an update…

I bought the ego ‘mine i black though’ today for 60kd and the cost is up a bit. Still 16kd for the limited 5gb at 384kbs, but I got the unlimited at 27kd p/month with speeds up to 7.2GBp/s. Now that’s what the advert says. I haven’t actually speed tested it. Details at http://www.kw.zain.com

But Wataniya is the devil!

J

Ok so i’ve been playing with ‘The Toy’ as I call it. The Black Ego version 2, whatever you want to call it. In an area where I can barely get UMTS connection on Wantiya “mangaaf”, I have been downloading at speeds of around 1.5-2Mbps. My Hi has been 2.6Mbps. So far the thing works great. It does suffer a little bit when playing XBOX Live, Halo works pretty decent, but Call Of Duty 4 still isn’t working. Considering I don’t have phone lines I can’t get anything better, so it’s lookin like the best i’ve had thus far.

Good luck Gents.

Johnny

Update… we’ve been playing call of duty 4 on the Ego uplink. It works, but it lags if your playing with people back in the states. If you find some people in UAE or Kuwait to play with it smokes!!!

Does anyone know how to check if someone had already gone their limit of 5Gb?

Or even check what is their current total download up-to-date?

Just got the 7.2 Mbps unlimited today, and here’s what I noticed:-

1) The USB modem they give you has a maximum speed of 3.6 Mbps. This is a hardware limit, and not a network one, so how I’m supposed to get ‘up to 7.2’ is beyond me.

2) The latency on the connection is higher than DSL, but the d/l, u/l speed is high. I get around 1.5 Mbps down and 500 kbps up, average. Faster than DSL but no where near what Zain promises.

3) The modem is actually supported natively on new linux kernels, you just need a front end to use it. google ‘Vodafone Mobile Connect Card Driver’ and you should be on your way.

Does anyone have the access settings for zain’s 3g network. I need username, password, apn & DNS settings. Any help would be awesome, either reply here or email: ninjafury *AT* yahoo *DOT* com.

True that the e-Go of MTC vodafone(ZAIN) is the best i like it i can carry it anywhere, but there is a problem beside of being the best, Because i was trying to set up my own FTP server, but its not working though i set it up correctly, hey i’m doing this to access my files in my own PC wherever and whenever i want. try to know the problem, The problem? I found out that i am behind a firewall and if you check your IP address in http://www.whatismyip.com, it will give you different IP address, different than what it is saying in your connection right click your connection(while your connected to the internet) – go to status – go to supprt and look for the client address… it is different from the one that you inquire in whatismyip.com. can anyone tell me how to set up a ftp server besides of this problem i encounter??? help is very much appreciated.. you can email me at [email protected], thanks in advance.

RE: Zain providing nowhere near the 7.2 mgbs per/s…

The speed gets better the closer you are to Salmiya, plus it depends on what your downloading and from where. I recomend if you want to test your speed download from microsoft.com. They have the largest trunk in the world and will give you a good idea of what your top speeds are. Getting 7.2 is a pipe dream anyway, but provided your firware is up to date and you have a fast download site you can do it.

As far as the ip address is concerned, you have a few issues there. Basically there are few providers that are going to give you a ‘Static’ ip address which is more or less what you need for what you want to do. The problem is that when you connect your getting a Dynamically assigned IP address from a pool of such addresses. When you log off, or your connection is reset, that IP goes back to the pool for whoever… Most ISP’s will charge extra for a ‘STATIC’ IP address, which is a permanently assigned IP like a personal phone number.

I’m not sure that’s exactly how they have it set up, but that’s what it looks like.

i am using e-go 2G, when i share internet connection for another pc that works fine but when i restart pc then internet do not work over other pc. can some body guide me how i will solve this problem?
Your help will be highly appriciated.

i have it and it sucks 🙁 i play cs 1.6 and i get bad latency and i play wow but the latency for it doesnt matter anyone know some tweaks to increase the speed?
