Internet in Kuwait is now cheaper

After my previous post comparing internet in Kuwait to Lebanon I was made aware that local internet providers just slashed their prices by 45% a couple of days back. A 2Mbps connection now costs around KD120-130 a year depending on your provider which is pretty cool. You can check out the new prices below:

Fasttelco Prices
Gulfnet Prices
KEMS Prices
Qualitynet Prices

Update: I was checking my account history and found the prices I was previously paying for my internet subscription with Qualitynet and I realize now they were super expensive compared to the new ones. Check them out:

July 2007
1Mbps (2Mbps free for first 3 months)
KD506 a year

July 2008
1Mbps (2Mbps free for 12 months)
KD380 a year

July 2009
1Mbps (2Mbps free for 12 months)
KD361 a year

mark, i just called qualitynet, they said they still have the cap, and i told them that “a friend” (you) dont have a cap, they said thats impossible. And then they were like whats his phone number?

So .. yeah .. cap is still here bro, i have it and so do my friends. I dont know how u dont have it. U probably have a wasta or something

Lol, lucky you :p

But yeah, Caps are still here, and the guy said that the ministry of communication didn’t finalize the removal of it or whatever.

But in all honesty, the guy i talked to had no clue what he was doing. Because he was like “you cant even see what your cap is. You know that you hit the cap if your download speed goes down, thats the only way to find out.”

And i was like, no, im looking at my cap right now, i downloaded 22% so far, i have 4.2gb left to download with.

Jesus @_@

Actually I saw that too, that’s why asked on here, because even if it is there, perhaps some of the KEMS users haven’t seen it enforced.
Since the beginning of the cap drama in Kuwait I’ve seen KEMS users complain the least, and even recall some saying they weren’t enforcing it.
I’m planning on going tonight to subscribe, but with these new prices there aren’t 3 month or even 6 month subscriptions, so I don’t want to sign up for a year and there be horrible limits on KEMS.
If there are caps, can anyone tell me what it is for the 4 MB package?

these are all the prices and completed

1 Mbps 79
1.5 Mbps 96
2 Mbps 125
3 Mbps 165
4 Mbps 206
5 Mbps 234
6 Mbps 262
7 Mbps 290
8 Mbps 317

The prices are still expensive. These people are still peddling 7 and 8 Mbps while the rest of the world won’t talk about anything less than 24 Mbps. I am using 35 Mbps right now in Europe and it’s costing me the same as 7 Mbps in Kuwait!

That’s true, but it doesn’t justify hiking the prices. If you are limited to 3 Mbps then you should pay for 3 Mbps only which should be around 5 KD per month.

don’t know if its true, but KEMS seems to have lifted its FAP CAPS, I don’t see the link on their website, it used to be below the terms and conditions…

Just for the record… cheaper internet prices probably means that ISPs will pay less to the Ministry of Communications. We will continue paying same high charges.

IF isps were asked to reduce their prices THEN that must mean that bandwidth sales will be implemented by ISPs.

Fasttelco, Qualitynet and KEMS have all removed the CAP .

i’m happy about the prices now, i personally will upgrade my 2MB to 4MB .

They can control the download/upload speed because when I had problems with my line (the maximum speed wasn’t stable so internet kept disconnecting), I would call the tech support and they’d adjust my speed to what my line can currently handle. And when I check my router’s page I can see they only reduced ONE of the download/upload speed without reducing the other.
So if you don’t care about the remaining 512 upload, try asking them to give you 3Mb down – 512kb up.

Did you upgrade your line from the MOC box to your apartment? If you did, then the MOC still did not upgrade the line between the MOC box and the MOC office.

bonding in quality net price still the same πŸ™ , no pls i cant go back to 2 mb πŸ™ , im not in kuwait someone pls call them and ask

To say that I got screwed would be an understatement! Btw Mark your prices seem to be higher than what I paid for my connection. Is your DSL the regular residential one or the one for online gaming?

Yeah me too I recently paid for a 2MB connection with KEMS but by the looks of the prices, I paid more than what the price for 4MB is :O

People I’m confused as to whether the internet is capped or not. Especially Quality Net. Some users over here are reporting that they’re not getting capped but others are reporting that they log into their account it shows that they’re being capped. Could somebody please give me a straight answer about this? Thanks!

Looks like there is no straight answer. Perhaps the cap is removed only for those with higher bandwidth subscription?
I have a 1MB link and the cap (and the usage values) are still showing in my account.
AND they are getting reset every morning – just like before.

I had the KOC discount with KEMS over the past 2 years (and no CAPS were applied ever). Checked KEMS to see what discount I would get on these new rates: “Please visit our showrooms to avail your discounts – no discounts are available for online renewal”

😐

well it seems Fastteleco removed FAP from their terms and conditions, but they added a new clause which can cover their ass in the future

”3.6 You shall comply with any reasonable instructions issued by Fast Telco from time to time
concerning access to the Internet. ”

this is ridiculous!!

I finally got what the catch is people. Either the ministry or the providers lowered the max available speed limits to areas. Two weeks ago my max line capacity st my area was 6mb…guess what? Now its 4mb. You guys check if it is lowered in your areas…

Mahboula looks like the trench lines in World War 1 . Why don’t they install fiberoptics now instead of refilling the holes and then digging them all up again? They are laying down water lines like a blundering drunk bull and are cutting telephone and electricity lines in the process.

mark do you know around about when the prices actually changed with these companies? specifically gulfnet. Any idea if it was before the 23rd.

I have 1MB with qnet.

I notice I am over the cap this morning but my connection is still 1MB. I tried downloading another Steam game , just to check.

So who knows what is going on……

Dear All,
had 2 quick ques:
1. Which one of the ISP is the best right now? I am asking in terms of speed and customer service..I dont want to go to MOC for the clearance certificate…

2. I wanted to know if to buy the router by myself..most of the ISPs provide netgear? not sure how good they are..can someone suggest some realy good routers…my friend used the routers provided by one of the ISP and he says he doesnt get the internet thru wireless in one of his room which is the fartest from the router and has 2-3 walls in between…

Watch out from a company selling wireless internet under the name “Mada Communications”, they are a scam, they sell you the equipment with a promise to receive up to 10 mbps and when you don’t receive it, they don’t give you a refund claiming that you signed that No Refund if the speed is above 2 mbps.
