Kubbar Island Beach Clean-up drive

On his regular cruise to the Kubbar Islands, Sheikh Mishal noticed that the beach is in a very bad state due to the litter & trash left over by the visitors and needed to be cleaned up. Teaming up and taking the initiative he organized this event to mark the “EARTH DAY”, they used bags to collect all the refuse dumped along the sand. Soon enough, everyone around at the beach at that time started joining in.

This video shows the exact condition of the beach before the clean-up began and how it looked after this campaign. More and more people in Kuwait are showing initiative in keeping Kuwait clean, safe, and beautiful for the future generations. This was an experience worth sharing and we encourage “one & all” to keep & maintain the heritage of Kuwait beaches.

That’s a lot of garbage for an island with no inhabitants. [YouTube]

Parliament should issue a law that bans plastic and nylon bags. Abraj water should start using glass bottles that can be recycled like what they used to do with fizzy drinks back in the 80s and 90s. I say abraj because its the bottles i see mostly on the beach.

Wonderful initiative, wonderful people. We are a small country, a little goes very far here…

Our thanks and blessings to everyone involved.

Strangely garbage bins are available, this means some cleaning company has a contract to clean it!

is it considered in international waters or pretty close to it? We still haven’t made it out there yet but is still on our to do list for the summer.

I would setup cameras on the island to see if anyone is throwing or leaving their trash. Then send in the coast guard to arrest them. Would arrest everyone above the age of 15.

Then where would people with boats go for shenanigans if there are cameras everywhere on the island?

Well what i’m trying to say is that people go to Kubbar to feel a little freedom that they can’t get back on the mainland! putting cameras there to watch for litter bugs would ruin it for the others. the ones not committing these offenses should make an example out of the ones trashing the island.

I agree. But the thing is I still beliave that people here that throw trash “being carless” learn better with punishment rather than by example.

Like I said before, I haven’t been out there yet in the 9 years I have been here but I have seen pics! 🙂

Thank you folks and much appreciation for all your wonderful comments.
Yes our next drive will be to clean up the coral reefs and we request all divers out there to inform us of any specific zones or areas where you would like us to start from.

What about who is willing to join and have his own boat to spare ? can you post some info of the dates and we can arrange some team to join and help !

Sure, we can do that….soon we will be announcing the next campaign schedule or you can check our facebook page for updates. (facebook/ajarco)

Very proud of whoever organized this.

And thanks to the workers too and the volunteers on the island, but main big thanks to the workers who cleaned
