I concur.

But I feel like the ones that’ll stay in business are:

– Vol. 1
– Three & Barista
– Let’s Coffee

Let’s Coffee’s owner has this incredible drive and DIY attitude and Three & Barista’s manager is a pro. Vol. 1 was one of the first, if not the first, of the lot and attracts the most customers, so it’s safe to say that it’ll stay put for a while.

That’s pretty pessimistic. I think 90% of these places will stay in business, there are enough coffee drinkers to have this many coffee shops. But out of curiosity why do you think BRW would go out of business or Arabica? Or Jumo or Force Bar? If anything Let’s Coffee seems like one of the few businesses that would end up closing down since people who’ve tried it didn’t have anything good to say about it and their branding is just horrible.

I’m actually really happy that people here are choosing local coffeeshops with great tasting coffee over multinational corporate cat piss and I hope all of them stay in business. I don’t want any of them to shut down, G-d forbid. I’ve been to BRW ,Jumo, Arabica more times than I can count and I love them. I’m sure the ones I haven’t visited yet are cool too.

It’s just that I wish more of them would take chances with the way they brand themselves because they all look derivative off each other. They’re all peddling the same kind of pseudo hipster/ironically yuppie aesthetic, the same drinks, etc. I don’t think they get that, I think they all think they’re special when they kind of aren’t.

The wooden interiors, low lighting, pipes on the ceiling, c’mon I can’t be the only one who thinks so?

Let’s Coffee is supposedly going to revamp their entire look.

You still didn’t answer the question on why do you think BRW, Jumo, Arabica and Force Bar (who all btw have good proper branding that visually are completely different to one another) would eventually close down but Let’s Coffee would stay open.

Not only are the 4 i mentioned visually different brand wise, but their shop setups are completely different as well, BRW is part of OFK inside a mall, Jumo is in the historical Sadu House, Force Bar is inside a crossfit gym and Arabica is based off Japanese architecture.

I really enjoy the lets coffee rose latte – its unique. I get that its a love/hate thing but I’m in the love camp.

Arabica does great coffee as doe HMC

#Disclaimer# I’ve only been to about a third of the list tho.

You can, but you gotta do a latte + espresso kind of thing. I’ve done the same kind of thing when it was in Italy… also you need someone to take you around. since you might encounter a case of shit.

I’m about to go track seats on my car, shout me an email if you want a designated driver. hahaha

In my humble opinion Vol 1, Boost and Jumo are the best coffee shops in Kuwait. Some coffee shops in this list are completely horrible and a disgrace to this whole industry…

I imagine at the end, only the good cafes with great vibes would continue operating, survival of the fittest.

Arabica, Vol, and Boost are the standouts at the moment in my opinion (pioneers possibly with respect to kuwait?)

I tried lets coffee though and its actually pretty good, the actual owners work in the place as far as im aware and its quite cozy. I would give a better judgement with time since they recently opened but so far its been pleasing

As for your side note… Wish you could compile a list of Kuwaiti retailers where one can get such equipment. Although, I do not recommend transferring the espresso into another vessel but head down to IKEA to get espresso shot glasses.

i have espresso shot glasses, wasn’t asking where i could find those. i was looking specifically for the rattleware “measuring” shot glass which I linked to and i already ended up getting it. needed it so i know if i am over or under extracting my coffee. but thanks anyway

Glad that you found some and sorry but I thought that it will be used as a pourer vessel. For measurements, then rattle ware will be the best choice although I recall that Starbucks had shot vessels but it only showed a 1 oz line. Not as useful as rattleware’s but much better looking. BTW where did you get a hold of them?

from Arabica, they hooked me up since they use them. but i got a number of a guy who brings them in from Dubai, didn’t call him so can’t confirm but you could give it a shot. his number is 50078855 (Mahmoud Koujan). Keep me posted, the guy might have other coffee related items.

I have a couble of RhinoWares Shot glasses if you are still interested.
but to measure your extraction I highly recommend using a scale.
shot glasses are not accurate and espresso crema affect your volume judgment.

scale won’t work for me since i have the oracle. there is a different system with the oracle to know if you’re extracting right since the machine fills up the portafilter with 22grams for you and then tamps it. the only thing i need to account for how fine my grind is and to measure that accurately there is a system. basically the machine is timed to extract my espresso in 30 seconds. there is an initial pre extraction phase which is around 8 to 10 seconds and then the espresso starts flowing. by the 30 second mark i should have 25ml to 30ml os espresso. if i get more then it under extracted and if i get less then its over extracted.

continouing last post that was submitted bu mistake.

if your espresso taste thin, dry and quick finish your are past the best grind/time setting,
grind a little courser to reach dense, syrupy sweet long aftertaste espresso, this would be your geeky best recipe.

credits of this recipe steps is to Matt Perger.

sorry for the long recipe, if too long to apply please ignore and follow the video you referenced.

the oracle does a good job doing dosing and tamping for you, and following 30 ml is about 30s rule is good. but is it not the best recipe you can get.

if you like to get the best espresso out of your very good coffee you may be interested in the following geeks recipe.

Espresso recipe is controlled by three variable, which are dose, yield and time. and espresso cup is measured by extraction and internsity.

adjust your recipe in this order as every step is effected by the one before it.

22g of dose is good for the oracle, keep it at 22 and move on to yield which should be measured in ratio to dose.
ratio of 1:2.5 is good point to start. meaning to 22g of coffee extract 55 grams of espresso.
changing the yield will move your espresso on the intensity extraction compromise line. the more you extract the less intensity you get, if this espresso taste too sour extract more, if it is too bitter extract less.
when your choose the yield with the best balance, adjust time by changing the grind setting. finer grind will move your intesity/extraction line up, you’ll get better extraction and more intensity, up to a point where finer grinding will extract less. this is the point that you have to not pass.
if your espresso taste thin, weak, bland, grind finer.
if it is sharp, sour, dry overwhelming grind coursed.

if your espresso taste thin, dry and quick finish your are past the best grind/time setting,
grind a little courser to reach dense, syrupy sweet long aftertaste espresso, this would be your geeky best recipe.

This is how I develop my recipe each time I put new coffee on the hopper. And adjust it a little daily.
I use it on the dual boiler (same as oracle but no grinder)
And on La Marzocco

sorry guys with all due respect,no one above seems to talk sense about real coffee! , lots of crap coffee in kuwait …anyhow try the first one on top the above list..amocafe …colombian coffee..no BS…..you will never regret it.

chaaaaaaaw

Hey, does anybody know a coffee business market in Muscat. I am a great fun of a good coffee and having hip-coffee-shops varieties in Kuwait makes me so grateful. Anything similar in Oman?

for me the best place for you good cup of coffee is pause.coffee
to talk of it the interior, staff and to crown it up the coffee is superb.
