More support against the internet download cap

The download cap issue was raised again by another member or parliament this time by MP Faisal Al-Mislem. According to an article in Al Watan, Al-Mislem met the minister of communication and discussed the case with him. He told the minister how Internet subscribers had subscribed to unlimited internet only to later be told that their connection is now limited. According to Al-Mislem as long as subscribers have a valid subscription then the internet providers don’t have a right to suspend or slowdown the service.

Here is the article on Al-Watan [English] [Arabic]

Thanks Salem and unim

I’m with the Limit! Yes they should enforce a cap! Who downloads more than 7GB a day! Man at work here I have over 50 users with unlimited internet access and over 75 with restricted activities and we don’t reach over 4GB a day!

I say that those who are bandwidth hoggers limiting others from good internet.

7GB a day IS ok. The problem is YOU DON’T GET 7GB.

Some people have limits of 1GB a day, which for a house with 4-5 users is absolutely normal usage.

They want people to upgrade their lines to have higher limits, it’s a money grabbing scheme.

At work you’re not watching youtube, updating your phone, patching windows or OSX, etc. etc.

well Mazen,
I doubt your mates at work are doing much with their internet–but that’s besides the point. The point is unlimited means unlimited and companies should respect existing customers at least. Secondly, there are other ways of tackling bandwidth abusers, that is by warning/suspending them individually and also they should be upgrading infrastructure and bandwidth capacities because the internet is not as it was in the 90’s, now everything is on the grid, all sorts of electronics make use of it, and almost everyone in any given household is making use of it, from HD videos, to games, and whatnot. So with such exaggerated internet prices, you should at least expect great service, not some ridiculous 1gb/2gb caps !

im going to downgrade my internet connection starting from next year as my subscription is annual. if im going to use the internet for browsing and voice chatting and forget about my Netflix, Xbox 360, PS3 & Downloading movies and my favorite series… then let it be, what ever is going to make them get the point im going to screw them as much as i can…

Shall we scream or what? I just downloaded a game from the apple store it was ~500MB then I downloaded a map pack from the playstation store and that was 1.6 GB, later I updated my playstation and I don’t know how much was that, while downloading the map I was watching some HD videos on youtube that is not restricted in Kuwait.

I’ve had a very interesting last week with my recently renewed KEMS connection. I did speak to the sales rep about the caps and he explained the details to me. After signing the contract I read through the whole thing expecting to find some changes to last year’s, but the details of the internet caps were not included on the contract. Not a single word.
The days following signing my new contract, I was having major trouble with the connection being next to unusable all day even prior to hitting the daily cap. After 3 service centre calls and a politely written letter of complaint blaming the capping for my diminished net I got a call from KEMS asking for some ping results. I sent them in then later that night it magically started working perfectly. On my 3Mb connection yesterday I downloaded an 11GB game from Steam (L4D2 was on sale $6 yey) at 350kpbs+ from start to finish.
Read into that as you will…..
Wow, speak of the devil, during writing this KEMS just called me as a follow up to my issues. Nope, no issues here 🙂

Oh and the cherry on the cake. I did my renewal during the the short lived “gifts for re subscribing customers” offer they had on. I asked for the 8GB Ipod nano, when I went to collect all they had was 16GB nanos. Not a problem I said, my nephew thanks you!

This will never get solved properly bc the people that make up these BS rules and laws are the same/related/friends with, the people that own the companies. It’s as simple as that.

i have a theory; this reads very similarly to the govt’s initiative a while ago to curb the working hours of maqha’s, remember? when they said they are to close down @ 12 on weekdays, and 2 on weekends? that law was passed, then what happened? it was detrimental to some higher-ups profit margin, so it was scrapped.

same thing will happen with this i reckon.

most of the time the internet is slower then what i paid for ,and it shut downs for no reason !?
and now LIMIT !!!
it doesnt make sense !!
i pay more then 150kd a year and i didnt sign a LIMIT THEY CANT JUST My contract like they want !
