Movies banned by the MOI

A reader just made me aware of a section on the Cinescape website where they’ve listed some of the movies banned by the Ministry of Interior Information. The list is more like a “Need to watch” list except for the movie “Cop Out”. It’s probably a good thing that the ministry banned that movie… [Link]

Thanks Salah

Wtf? I saw most of those movies here in the US, i cant see any reason why any of them is banned! This is really shocking, where is this heading? Closing down cinemas? This is very sad. Kuwait is heading into a dark tunnel.

Ministry of Information should be renamed to Ministry of Censorship. They provide ZERO contribution to the public in Kuwait. All they do is making life harder to people.

Even movies released are chopped to the extent of 20%-30%…..so whats the point in having this list!!!!!

the list wont last for long, they had the same list when they first published their magazine, then they got pressure from the MOI to remove it and they did.

personally i stopped going to KNCC after i discovered cinemagic, they have better movies, cheaper price, and quieter audience.

Do they know about Internet and downloading stuff. If they don’t they can go to the birds market and buy these movies.
Cinema here in Kuwait ??
Where??
Go to hawally get one of thsee sattelite recievers that u connect to the net and enjoy.

They forgot to put “Sex & the City 2” on that list (for stupid obvious reasons). Does anyone know what country (nearest to Kuwait) will be playing it??? I already tried Dubai & Bahrain & it seems they won’t be showing it either…

*sigh*

Please help!

i mean for gods sake there isnt a single movie they havent censored .. not even princess and the frog >.>

Dont you just love kuwait!

I never realised how backwards some countries can be when it came to censorship until I moved here.

it would be interesting to know what other countries ban these films (i dont just mean Arabic countries).

Some people will obviously say GTFO if yoy dont like it. Thankfully I will be in a months or so time and i will be looking forward to enjoying a night at the cinema once again.

Mark, I figured you and probably every other guy on here would say that LOL– but it still doesn’t answer my question. Is there any site I could browse to check what countries are showing/not showing particular movies???

@Prince Ferydon, yes they do know about the internet thats why the are blocking most of the websites that allow downloading.

There are lots of activities in Kuwait.
1)Going to the cinema to watch the latest blockbusters…

Welcome to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia (the latest province).

One of my friends was responsible for throwing out books with any of a list of phrases in them. One of them was “pig” or “pork”. Charlottes Web – into the bin.

At least now they have the decency to show us the banned list. I think their doing us a favor, they telling us that some of those movies are soo awesome we’re better off downloading it and watching the un-censored versions. 😀

MOI is Ministry of Information NOT Ministry of Interior
Please change it before the Parliament question the Minister of Interior

This is in no way a “NEED TO WATCH” list. The only movies that seemed half decent where kick ass and the book of eli. I’m not to sad I wont be able to watch the back up plan.

They are banned for a reason after all. Most of the movies on the list do not conform to Islam and the traditions of Kuwait.
For example, Clash of the Titans. I loved the old version, and would’ve loved to seen the re-make, however it contains the idea multiple gods and some mythology that contradicts Islam.

Or would you prefer watching the same movies, with 30mts or so cut from the film?

This is why we have Dubai and Abu-Dhabi. Hop on a plane and watch them there 🙂

As i was reading the banned movies listed in the cinscape , they made it easier for us to check’m out in any cd movie stores 😉
tell me what do u think ???

Ok i understand the titans one… understand yet DO NOT AGREE…

but the lovely bones!? seriously? i have just seen the movie! It’s very good! what is wrong with it that will make me change my mind and become a dangerous citizen?

and the backup plan? Jlo pregnant o finding love?
walla seriously?

*bangs head against the wall*

Please tell me they didn’t ban “Kick Ass” for the name! I am sure they could come up with a translated title like they always do. My favorite was the 1995 movie “Seven”, which was translated to “السفاح” LOL

Holy crapp!! The backup plan is banned? khalas let them bann american cars and “American Eagle” shop also, and alow made in china movies, mobiles, cars n bikes and shops. Cause its not mamnoo3

I’m going to Yemen next week for a whole friggin and they don’t have a ONE decent cinema to go to.

Hey, at least Kuwait is better than Yemen for when it comes to movies!

I watched The Lovely Bones, Legion, Nine & The Book of Eli at the cinemas, nothing wrong with all but I think Legion & Book of Eli are banned because they’re related to religions and MOI is trying not to make a scene or so?

The rest also played in Amman, all good.

I say if you don’t like it then leave … nobody is really forced to stay in Kuwait.

“Love it or Leave it”

Valentines day is soooo harmless saw it in the US, precious and clash are good movies. KICK ASS ROCKS but i understand why its banned kuwaiti audiences cannot handle a 10 year old swearing like a sailor on leave in SE Asia.

I wonder, if one day some guy gets fed up and e would hack ministry of interior due to censorship.
Cause they already hacked customs websites.

I honestly feel sorry for Cinescape

I have no doubt that some of the Censor Committee people benefit from the Pirated films as they crack down on Cinescape to benefit illegal film copies and sell them for as cheap as 500 fils at times.

I know a couple of people at Cinescape and they tell me they have met with MPs and Ministers and false promises..

I love Cinescape and if it wasn’t for Censors they provide us with Theaters which I honestly have never seen in any other country in the world..

Censoring is not in their hands, we know this.. Why is everyone afraid to point the finger at the right guilty party in this?

I watched Clash of The titans in dubai …. it was AWESOME !!! Thank god they banned it here cuz it woud have been like just 10 minutes from censoring XD

I’ve never understood how our people rule out movies that clearly have no bad intentions. Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but if people here were seriously devoted to Islam, then shouldn’t they ignore any mention of any other gods? Seriously, this whole idea of banning movies is bogus. I’d personally prefer people who seek knowledge instead of following blind faith. Case in point, Muslims shouldn’t even budge from the site of “mythical gods”.

It seems Cinescape gets bombarded with emails asking why this or that movie is banned.. So they published this list to clear their hands of any responsibility

MOI – and indeed the country it serves – is heading down a deep dark hole and dragging us all down with it. If you can afford to get your thrills elsewhere, by all means do it without hasted and don’t wait for Kuwait to get its act together

And I say this a patriotic yet saddened Kuwaiti. This is not the country I grew up in!

lool mark :p
I saw most of those movies in Canada, I understand why Clash of the Titans, Nine and Legion are banned in Kuwait, but Kick Ass?!! Seriously?
it’s like banning the Dark Knight Sequel!!
The Lovely Bones did show a little girls “Heaven”, but thats not enough reason to ban the movie!
Precious is a sad movie, i know the story isn’t culturally accepted here in Kuwait, but then again, it’s not culturally accepted anywhere! even in the US, So why ban the movie? it’s only a sad story with great acting!

Anybody know if Sex and the City 2 is out anywhere in Kuwait? Its not on the banned list on Cinescape, but is that because its not long out everywhere else? Thanks.

well i see it better ban then censor it the good parts

like in night in elm street idk what happen to fredie at the end of the movie -_-

the reasons for the bans are these in my opinion

She’s Out of My League, Grown Ups, Valentine’s Day, The Back-up Plan, The Rebound: contains sexual content and story is based or has sexual experience in them which are needed to watch to under stand the story

Death at a Funeral : could be because they found it racist? xD or something about religion

Legion, Book of Eli, Titans: Religon or race

Kick ass:alot of cursing xD they cant have the movie muted every time someone curses (Note the girl in the movie is 13 year old)

others: too scary too much violence too revealing

They banned some movies for stupid reasons like Percy Jackson why did they ban it?! cuz of the Greek Gods thing come on it’s an ancient history and really like BEAUTY AND TE BEAST 3D WAS BANNED!! I CANNOT WITH THEM.
