I first watched this at the Kuwait Film Retreat event, was one of my all time favourites. His emotional face is just too much.

Guys that born with no mustaches, should be very aggressive to makeup for that nag9.
However the protagonist has no character.

It speaks of a man having no mustache, he is suffering from that as others didn’t give him hard feelings, the man obviously is an emotional person and sensitive, and he is sensitive about having no manhood or as he thinks.
he gotten married because he thought it’ll make others compliment him for being a real man, he seeks others compliment to be happy.
his wife saying “you stink” is probably because she is pmsing, it happens, it’s not a big deal.
however the just of it, this dude is just an emo, with mustache complex.

Actually I disagree with neoark. The idea of having a mustache in the movie is a metaphor for growing up and manhood. Basically the whole movie is one big metaphor. Pretty simple really. I thought it was well done.

I got the story, nice idea and it’s not easy to make… but it’s really one hell of a bad movie . esp the marriage thing , the divorce and at the end

ok we know that this a Kuwaiti movie and we are trying to encourage youth on doing what they like, but that doesn’t mean we praise everything they do, even if it was so bad, which is in the case of ‘Shanab’. i guess this the problem in our nation is that people DON’T criticize honestly. i wasted 15 min of my time on nonsense! oh god
Let’s try the opposite of what you are suggesting here and encourage everything and everybody for rejecting and discouraging everything and everybody in the past God knows how many years obviously didn’t get our nation anywhere!
Amazing! I am glad that we have such talents in Kuwait. I specially loved the the complex tempo of the movie. I also liked how the main character seemed more important and experienced while the other characters are of less experience and carried minor roles which gives the movie more mystery and indie characteristics. this movie is obviously not for everyone because is very artistic! well done and thanks for sharing 🙂
Its a nice concept,good direction. This comedy nicely making fun of the male chauvnistic complex.Film in turn conveys that not only the man ‘without moustache’ but also the man with ‘great moustache’ends up with stinking themselves infront of what they achieved as part of their manliness. The rain in the climax suits well, it is like someone throwing a rotten egg. Congrats and Good Luck!
Stupid movie, time waster.
Seems like producers are learning about the video cameras for the firs time.
I thought the movie was really well done. The whole thing is one big metaphor, and as a result it seems many people didn’t get it because they’re used to getting everything shoved in their faces, like popcorn summer films. It’s also meant to be a bit surreal I suppose.
Also, the whole idea of setting it in the ’80s (I think) was a cool touch.
Good effort, and I hope to see more from this group. Their older movie was very reminiscent of older David Cronenberg movies (his recent work includes A History of Violence, Eastern Promises). It was definitely very surreal, and doused in metaphors. Not everyone’s cup of tea. I praise the filmmakers for trying but I think trying to appeal to a slightly more mainstream audience is a better idea for now, and Shanab helped bridge the gap.
