I was filling out an inquiry form on alsayer.org trying to find out when they will be getting the Toyota FJ and there is a mandatory question asking me which nationality I was. What kind of question is that in this day of age? Why do they want to know where I am from? Will I get better or worse service if I answer I am from Uganda? What would the best answer be, USA or Kuwait? I am betting USA and thats what I put. [Link]

Damn, the nationality question again. I get my fair share of this (you may check a recent post of mine, ‘A phone call’) and it pisses me off to no end.
This is a non issue, just like similar questions for “ethnicity” in the US.
It cant be for marketing. If it was they would ask other questions like age, other cars owned, how did i hear about them etc.. etc.. the questions would also be optional. Here they are asking me what my nationality is without asking me other “for marketing questions” and they are making it mandatory.

But see, if they observe that a large portion of their customers were Lebanese, they could perhaps customize cars with the Lebanese flag on them or emplot more Lebanese folks. No?

guys you dont seem to understand what collecting statistics mean.
When you collect statistics you ask questions that might help improve your service. Usually they ask a number of questions and they take these questions and treat them like research. They uses these pie charts and graphs to be able to better understand their customers. These questions are also usually optional. Many sites do these, you fill out all the required questions and then in the end they have bonus questions which u can answer or not. these questions are for surveying purposes and you are free not to answer them if you dont want to.
Now the problem in the alsayer case is this is not a survey question. You cant have just one question asking people what nationalty they are and then call it a survey. If you guys think this is for marketing purposes thats bull shit. Marketing people would want to know more about the people filling in the forms then just their nationality.
btw i wasnt making a big deal out of this.. i was just bringing it into attention.

Thats rediculous. Its pretty obvious the question is there for preferrential treatment. You would never get questioned about you’r “ethnicity” in North America as part of a service pack. And just like Holla said, if for whatever reason you are it sure as hell would be phrased VERY carefully cause god knows there would be law suits left right and centre…amen!

Just coz someone feels Kuwait is racist is not reason enough to ‘pack up and head home’. Without a doubt there are certain benefits for expats working here which is why they choose to stay. However, that doesn’t mean that they should not talk about the negative aspects of life in Kuwait.
Many people do move out when they feel the negatives outweigh the positives, those who feel otherwise; don’t.
Alas its the same reason they ask for your nationality and religion on any employment application form. Anyone who thinks they get paid/serviced/treated in this country according to their qualifications and not the colour of their skin is living in fantasyland.

WoW…Sabah Hussain was perfectly right on the mark. I think its really important to be able to comfortably talk about what Kuwait is and what Kuwait isn’t. There’s no doubt there are racial issues and anybody that denies that is clearly no in their right mind…good or bad thats not the point, at least start by admitting that they exist. I think asking your nationality and religion in your employment application is total crap btw.

One has to deal with the changes .I admit that no place is perfect and every country has its own shortcoming. Over a period of time they diminish. You people just have to wait until they realize these differences and resolves them

But don’t talk about things that you don’t understand . since the late 70’s , kuwait has started an increasing population policy by givin away a KW nationality , it was a great idea…But , rather than givin it away to educated people , Ppl with work skills etc….they opened the doors for the unwanted Low ranked population from Iraq , ksa , Iran .
