New York Friez

new york friez

When I was in Canada I got introduced to Poutine and ever since its been a favorite dish of mine every time I visit Montreal. Around a year ago I found out New York Fries had opened up in Kuwait so I went to check it out because I knew NYF from Canada and they used to have Poutine. NYF had opened up next to Souk Salmiya and my first experience was a mess. Firstly it turned out they were called New York Friez not Fries meaning they were just copying the name and look of the original franchise. Secondly although they did have poutine on the menu they couldn’t make it right. Poutine is french fries topped with cheese curds and brown gravy but I got served french fries with chili and cheese. According to them it was because they had run out of gravy. I was like fine but you should have told instead of trying to pass me chili cheese fries as poutine.

Anyway that was the last time I went to them until today. I was meeting up with Nibaq near Johnny Rockets Salmiya and I noticed New York Friez had opened up right behind them. I was like let me give them another chance. I go in and ask the waitress if they have poutine, she was like yes and she showed it to me on the menu. I tell her great can I have one. Then I was like wait, how do you make your poutine, whats in it? She was like chili and cheese and fries. I was like thats not poutine, poutine is cheese, gravy and fries. She went to the back asked the cook and came back and told me no poutine is chili, cheese and fries. I was like no thanks and walked out.

Things like this piss me off. If you look at the picture I took from their menu you will notice they can’t even spell poutine right. In UAE they have the official New York Fries but sadly they don’t have poutine on the menu. But at least there they don’t try passing chili cheese fries as poutine to their customers.

Here is info on poutine at Wikipedia. [Link]

wao this is really crazy S and Z it will be a great idea to open here but then if there is like 3 or 5 stores that exactly the same i will doubt the prices there is cheaper than original NYF, and no one will know the difference, that’s serious killing

rien de bon que de poutine de rapido du plateau Mont-Royal comme on le dit “ca va faire une maudite poutine”

La Banquise man, that’s the place to go.
Ou si t’es de la rive-sud, c’est Cafe Campus en face de Durocher!

Sorry for the french guys, but you can’t talk about Poutine in any other language… =)

omg…how much do i love poutine..41 days and counting..maybe that’ll be my first meal when step off the plan..instead of fish n chips..ill get fish n poutine..ahhhh

The secret to real poutine is 2 things that cant be replicated elsewhere, the gravy, which is technically possible, but the second is the cheese curd used that is produced in Quebec. So you wont be able to have it outside of Canada, unless you import these ingredients.

I live in Montreal and poutine is the nastiest thing I’ve ever heard of and tasted so you’re not missing much.

I’m a fairly regular reader of your blog. Just want to point out one glaring issue: the amount of times you use the phrase “I was like, she was like”. A quick review of this post would make it fairly obvious. I know you’re dealing with a Kuwait based audience who is generally far less demanding when it comes to standards of language, but it does take away greatly from the reading experience when such teenager-y phrases are overused in such a manner. In fact, even using it once is generally inexcusable in a blog of this calibre.
On a side note, I’ve just ordered from New York Frie(z), haven’t ordered any fries but I’ve heard rave reviews about the Buffalo Wings and Hot Dogs.

I know that, but even now in 2014, it shows up pretty high in search results when I searched for the restaurant, which is a good thing for you.
It’s your blog, so fixing up the language or not is entirely up to you. As a seasoned copywriter, Book Marketer and Editor, I feel inclined to give you my recommendations regarding your language. I would assume that you are aiming to sound professional and authoritative on the subjects you write about, however old or new the post in question is.
Unfortunately, looking at your reply, it seems you still have a propensity to use the word ‘like’ unnecessarily. Your post is 8 years old, not ‘like 8 years old’.

The post is 8 years old and I no longer write like that. I understand it still appears in Google but I have around 20,000 posts and the blog is 10 years old so its physically impossible to go back and rewrite every post again.

Ah. You have a fair point. Thanks for taking the time to clear that up. Glad you have improved and all the best for the continued growth of your blog! 🙂
