Is there a reason why gas stations don’t get longer hoses so that cars who have their gas tanks on the left can still fill up from a hose that’s on the right?

Your car is powered by Gas :O ?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_tank
You should use “Fuel” next time rather than Gas.
You can call it a fuel station if you want but i’d rather call it a gas station
Apparently you’re only familiar with British English!
(which is a big compliment by the way).
NO,
then Ill lose the privilege of having a right-sided gas tank ;D
When I had my Beemer I didn’t mind it but now that i’m driving a toyota along with half of kuwait i’ve realized how unfair this system is π
lolol
hahaha same here.
The Luckiest people are the ones with the pre-historic Caprices :p some of them have the gas tank at the back where the number plate is so either side will do π There are other advantages as well and I wish I had one
as a kid i always found that interesting. It was like a secret compartment.
i miss my pre-historic caprice :(… they had the comfiest seats ever!
+1
Some of the renovated Oula gas stations have long hoses which help you refill on either side. Like the one on the 5th Ring road at Salmiya.
Yes, thats my local station. Love the new two-side fuel filling options. Funny thing, half of them dont read the two sided filling option and stick to their ancient fixed line system.
Yeah I was gonna say some stations started doing this after realizing how long the lines are for the left side and empty for the right -_-
well in the gas station if you haven’t noticed….. they have this screen that has numbers that quickly add up to fill up the tank i also noticed that there aren’t two per so i recommend you think before you post. btw love your blog!
That’s not what I’m saying. If you look in the picture above you can see the left pump is free. Because my gas tank is on the left side and the hose is too short, I can’t use that free pump.
LOLWUT?
Even if there a longer hose, it’s not safe, because the distance between the islands is very small, and a car can hit the guy who is filling, or the filling nozzle, and It’s goes like Boom!
That doesn’t make any sense at all
Hilarious is out of the question π
If a car hits a man he doesn’t explode, too many Hollywood movies
The real reason (other than safety) is to prevent the risk of static build up.
The same reason why you shouldn’t fill up a portable tank while keeping it in the air (but rest it on the ground).
That’s not true since if it was then all the gas stations around the world would be doing the same thing and use short hoses and not allow cars to fill up from the opposite side.
guess now when you buy a new car, you look for where the tank is located
OMG I HATE THAT!!!! Sitting in line forever…. and the pumps are antiquated. How about getting a pump where you can pop in your credit/debit/gas card and get gas? How about not having to wait 5 minutes (I’m guessing – approx) to fill up your SUV because the pump only trickles gas into your tank? RRRR. Please don’t tell me that the gas companies don’t have enough money.
Uh the way they do it here is preferable. I HATED the US method of “Pay the gas station guy, go back to your car, fill up only the exact amount you paid” I like just filling it up π
uhm … when’s the last time you were in the States??? its so simple to just pay at the pump with your debit or credit card, fill up & take off .. no need to go see any “guy”
can’t you turn your car around and fill up with a vacant gas pump ?!?!?!
Is there a reason why people can’t turn their car around and use whichever pump they want?
You would be facing the wrong way of traffic
You should still be able to get back on the road in the right way of traffic from where these cars in the picture are coming in, no?
You fuck it up for everyone
This is like when everyone is waiting in line to take a u-turn and somebody comes in from the end of the earth and says I’M GONNA SKIP THIS LINE and thinks he’s so smart
Desert Girl ill fill it up for you =]
Why most cars have the tank on the right hand side?
simply because all gas stations are governmental! no competition what so ever, so all what customers can do is to die in anger π
They’re also cheap as shit, the govt. loses money on every liter pumped and subsidizes gas for everyone citizen or expat. They literally lose money.
A gas station in Sharq has a sign-board before you enter showing that two-way filling is allowed. This is the one opposite the Wataniya Telecom head office. π
Just the other day I went to this gas station in fintas right beside the park. I was waiting for my turn after 2 cars in front of me (left side filling…toyota), suddenly the gas attendant was waiving at me to go to the left side pump because it was empty, I gave a signal that my tank is on the left and he insisted that I go near, then so i went and he started pulling the hose putting it on top of my trunk and started to fill… I was not surprised because I previously work in gas business and it was safe to do so. I just insisted when the guy called me because I thought that it was not allowed here in kuwait to refill a left tanked car using a right side pump.

It has to do with static from the hose rubbing with the metal of the car which can cause a spark / a fire which can cause an explosion. But in Europe (in most stations) the hoses are long and you can pull it all the way to fill from the other side and this is because they updated the hoses. There is an anti-static insulation sandwiched between 2 layers of rubber and the hoses are painted with anti-static pain which prevent static from occurring. But again it’s not everywhere but in most stations (in France as far as I know) the hoses are anti static. They can change them here, thing is though, it does cost lot of money because it is not just the hose that needs to be changed but also the mechanisme that pull the hose back and store the hose which is built in the kiosk itself. On the current traditional hoses, when people drag the hose all the way to the other side it starts to get tough and it can shoot back-in very quickly and cause heavy damage if it hits someone + leak gas everywhere so the track-back mechanisme is as important as the anti-static hose = cost a lot. But if other countries can update them, I dont see why Kuwait can’t.
it has nothing to do with static charges! first class in science class was RUBBER IS ANTI-STATIC
Berry, Google βgas station static fireβ
the static charges are not caused by the lenght of fuel hose! have a look at these statistics/analysis
https://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blgas-static-fires2.htm
I was thinking about this a year back and I came up with an idea of having the hose come from the top so that both right and left tank cars can use the same pump without the risk of hoses being pulled around the car. After some research I discovered there is gas stations in Japan use that methodology :/
Thank god both my cars got a right side tank π and I guess if I’m replacing any of them my 1st requirement in the new car would be. A right hand tank too
mo min 9ijkom.. rij3o gerry
isnt it illegal in Kuwait? cos i have seen this sign borad in gas stations stating that its not allowed.
The problem is not that, that main issue is that Kuwait needs 3 times more gas stations to cover the demand
only in Kuwait, people have to wait and suffer for gas.
a guy that works at KNPC told me that Kuwait needed twice the number of gas stations back in 1992
how many we need now u think!?
Solution: Raise the price of gas to Euro prices, nobody will drive anymore
Berry, Google “gas station static fire”
there should be a rotating disc below every pump to turn the car to whatever angle required.
Hahaha yeah let’s put in rotating discs that cost thousands of KD instead of paying for a longer hose, Kuwait Govt. style of problem fixing
Or maybe having the hose come from above by making an extension which shouldn’t cost much. So, you can pull it down towards either sides (left or right) to refuel your car.
All I know that AL-OULA Gas Stations have longer hoses to pump fuel from both sides.
All you guys cribbing about the tank on the right or left, at least you’re not like me and have to fill from UNDERNEATH. Yeah, that’s right.
https://tinyurl.com/thatsmyride
it is against the law for the hose to cross to the other side
why did the hose cross the road?
The chicken was taking a break ! LOL
just do like the Saudis and go in backwards π
No forward thinking, no prior planing = fail
They installed longer hoses months ago, it was in newspapers. You can now fill up on either side.
nope, I was at the gas station yesterday on the gulf road and the hoses are still the same.
Guys,
I use this gas station too, behind the Geant in Salmiya. The hose does reach the other side. I drive a Toyota Carolla and regularly fill up on the other side at this gas station.
It is hilairous to see everyone queing, then I rock up and hop out and stretch the hose and fill her up.
