Peacock is closed

Last month I posted that the menu of Peacock will be transferred to Rangoli once the Radisson SAS closes down for renovation. Turns out that information wasn’t correct. Al Bustan all day dining was transferred to Rangoli, Peacock on the other hand was closed with the hotel. For those of you who don’t know Peacock, it’s one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in Kuwait and was recently nominated the best fine dining restaurant in Kuwait.

WHAT!? They closed it!?
They should have informed people so at least people would have one final farewell meal! I doubt IF it opens again in a few years that it would be the same!!! 7safa wallah!!!

Another Q8y land mark gone 🙁

Dear Dandrema,
The restaurant will open in 2012 and altogether with a new hotel and I am sure it match and exceed the current standards. The information about closing the hotel was passed through different channels including printed and social media. Thank you for your support of the place.
Best Regards

Mark, try out China Lake in Salmiya (In the lane opp. Hadi Clinic, off the 30). It’s a small joint, with excellent food. They offer a good selection of Chinese cusine, with quite a bit of seafood…. lobster even. These guys will deliver and do get to you in the time specified. In fact we are having Chinese tonight.

Danderma: Relax amigo, it’s just a renovation. The hotel desperately needed to break away from its faded 90s look. The Peacock will once again be part of the new hotel when it reopens in the first half of 2012.

fishma4: Not closed for good. I liked the SAS the way it was too, but it was badly showing its age. The renovation plans look good though, so at least we’ll see the hotel making a comeback sooner than later.

I found this post about the renovation of Radisson blu hotel in kuwait ( in skyscrapercity.com written by ChaoticTranquility):

Well, not so much new, but this particular icon needed a lot of work done: the Radisson Blu Hotel Kuwait, formerly known as the Radisson SAS, closed on December 23, 2010 to spend the entirety of 2011 undergoing a full reconstruction and renovation in order to shift from a faded, dated building to a modern, cleaner symbol of hospitality. Interesting note: the hotel was the first SAS hotel to open outside of Scandinavia when it was launched in the early 1980s.

The scope of the project involves the following:
– Reconstruction of the main hotel building and entrance
– The addition of a new top floor on the main building housing a sky lounge with panoramic sea views
– Redesign and refurbishment of the lobby, corridors and public spaces
– Complete overhaul of all guest rooms and suites
– Renovation of the Al Bustan and Peacock restaurants
– Renewal of ballrooms and meeting facilities in the main building

During the course of the renovation, the hotel will keep the Al Hashemi ballrooms/meeting facilities open, as well as the Rangoli [Indian] and Al Boom [steak/seafood] restaurants. The Peacock’s menu will be transferred to Rangoli while the main restaurant itself is redone. The Royal Viking Club and all of its facilities will also be open during the process.

The hotel is due to reopen during the first half of 2012.

Dear Pediatric Dentistry,
Thank you for your comment and interest in our hotel. I am representing the hotel and most the above information is correct, however the Peacock will be closed and Al Bustan all day dining will be moved to Rangoli. Peacock will reopen in early 2012 when the renovation is completed. If you require any more info please visit our Facebook site Radisson Blu Hotel Kuwait where we are updating the current hotel activities. We will also be introducing new Radisson Blu Kuwait portal shortly.
I will make sure the skycrapercity.com posts the correct info. Thank you for bringning it up.
Best Regards

Bustan is buffet, as per peacock manager on my last visit, on select days they will serve certain popular items of peacock menu at the buffet. Have fun!
