Gale-force storm, hail showers hit Kuwait
KUWAIT CITY (AFP) — One person was killed and several wounded on Friday when a strong sandstorm triggered by gale-force winds and hail lashed the desert state of Kuwait, officials said.

The victim, a man, drowned in the sea while several people were injured at a shopping mall where glass shattered and fell on shoppers, a security official said.

The meteorological department said the storm was caused by gale-force winds that blew in “semi-tornado” fashion at around 90 kilometres (56 miles) per hour and warned that a similar storm is expected to hit the emirate on Saturday.

The violent winds also uprooted hundreds of traffic signposts, billboards, and trees and damaged many cars in several parts of Kuwait, witnesses reported.

Authorities appealed to people to stay indoors.

omg, it must have rained badly down there, here it just showered 1 hour ago and the roads are now dry here.

I travel to Abdally (North of Kuwait) every day and yesterday was really my lucky day for me and my frnds. Almost the whole land to the North-West of Kuwait near the KUWAIT border was covered with small pieces of ICE CUBES (believe me). I just parked my car at one side and me & my frnds were just playing with ice and enjoying that moment (it was like ALASKA – a blanket of ice cubes in the desert). It was all white and view was amazing.

The only thing i regret is that i had not camera at that moment, but the experience was mind blowing 🙂

It’s all starting to make sense now – on why Kuwait was hit by gale force winds. Apparently, nature isn’t too happy with the political quagmire Kuwait’s in; to say nothing of the liberals getting sidelined in all spheres of activity.
