Power Cuts

I just heard from a friend they’ve started power cuts in Kuwait. My friend didn’t have electricity for 6 hours today! I hope this isn’t going to be a habit. In Lebanon we get power cuts but come on its Lebanon, the country doesn’t have any money and worse comes to worse the weather really never gets that hot there. In Kuwait on the other hand the government DOES have money so they can build more power plants and the weather gets extremely hot in Kuwait which means a home without AC is unlivable.

The reason for the power cuts are the same as those behind Naples’ trash problem, which is corruption.

At my house we did have power, thank god. But this REALLY sucks. I sure do hope the government doesn’t make this a habit or something.

Mark, your friend must be mistaken! The Ministry for Electricity said, in February, that they had everything under control and that there would be no problems this year with electricity shortages! How can this be? They have everything under control??

They’re doing this to stimulate the economy.

‘How’ you ask?

Well, when they switch your electricity off at 1PM, while you’re cooking lunch, what are you gonna do? Go to the mall, eat at the foodcourt.

When they switch your electricity off at 3PM, when you’re trying to take a nap, what are you gonna do? Go to the mall, walk around and buy a top (or three).

When they switch your electricity off at 7PM, when you’re chilling in front of the TV, what are you gonna do? Go to the mall, watch a movie.

GENIUS.

Must be cheaper to hand out cash to students and Kuwaiti citizens to fly to Europe for the summer, than to use the money to build power plants. Maybe these guys are smart – why spend money on infrastructure, when it will all go to waste after the oil runs out?

Oh lets just hope that the power cut was due to some kind of maintenance in his area : s

Tweez: or maybe it will be called “min 7obna likum, na5th minkum” :p

This doesn’t surprise me at all.

*Waits for eventual Ministry Announcement that people in Kuwait just use too much fucking Electricity to stay alive in the soaring heat absolving themselves of any responsibility and sheer mismanagement of the power supplies.*

Regular power outtages are expected to happen only in the expat conclaves of Farwaniya, Kheitan, Abbasiya, Hasawi, Jleeb, parts of Salmiya and Rumaithiya. I will eat my hat if they include South Surra, Jabriya, Dahiyat Abdalla Salem or Mishref.
Pray, this year’s no flashback to the summer of 1980 when most areas in Kuwait had interrupted power supplies between June – September. Those were the days when peope would flock to verandahs at night and sleep outside in their courtyards and on roof-tops under star light skies. Mind you, it’s certainly not as romantic as it sounds.

Moral of the story – ” Whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.”

This is a nightmare for me since I moved to Kuwait… and with a 17 month old boy who has naps & bedtime fixed as a clock… i’m not going to rush to the malls to escape the heat and annoy him… God help us this summer .. I guess i’ve to come up with an idea … !!! maybe going somewhere else until summer is over 🙂

Will you still get in trouble if you can’t recharge your mobile phone bluetooth device because the power’s out??

😉

I just paid up my electricity bill and now this? Damn. Dubai can have a mall with a ski slope in it and Kuwait is cutting power to some areas. What is WRONG with this country????

Desert GirL :

I feel Dubai is responsible for it. They are making sure Kuwait does an economic and social U-turn so that they have a strong competitive advantage. Kwt should quickly break deuce.

I think this problems all begun by the expats which comes to our country and steals our electricscity!!1
iw wish all of them just GTFO then all kuwaitis ppl wud life like the kings we r.

The irony is that we give Egypt millions every year specifically for them to build themselves power stations in egypt. And this has been going on for many years, and the last power station built in kuwait was decades ago.

I urge everyone to check out the 2007 report of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development which has a detailed list of all the loans and grants with technical assistance for the Arab countries.

We spend so much money on other countries and help them out but we seem to forget ourselves.

On a personal note, sometimes I even wonder if it is worth it to give that much to all those countries. Because what do Kuwaitis or KUWAIT in general get in return? NOTHING but hate.

Power cuts in Kuwait is a way to humiliate us. They cut the power in summer when its really hot because they want us to sweat like pegs, and to BEG them to steal the country’s money and buy useless power generators.

Its funny that Kuwait, one of the largest oil producing countries, powers most of europe, US, and asia… yet we, kuwaitis have blackouts and have to suffer and live without electricity!

I’m pissed, you know why? because they talk about “e9la7” and e9la7, yet everything is corrupt. good people suffer while thieves become richer.

do they expect us to believe that a wealthy country like kuwait cant afford buying the latest technology to produce power? bullsh!t. they can. but they wont.

Wain bero7on mn Allah? WAIN!?

the government isnt thinkin bout sustainable development… comon.. the government’s got the money.. kuwait has lots of sun in the summer, build solar plants,, and in the winters they hav heavy winds too.. so they can even hav like lots of windmills too.. and save a lot of fossil fuel!!

Holla:
You said you all can live like kings if all the expats go out of this country. In what way do you think expats are stealing the electricity? Even if expats go from this place, then this place will suffer more. 3/4th of Kuwait’s population are expats. We expats are not stealing and storing electricity in containers in our homes. Common please talk something sensible.

This is because of the messed up government sector. In 2002, before the electricity mess started, a fellow mechanical engineer who used to work for Ministry of Electricity before 1990 and up until 1998 told me that this will happen. He told me that since 1991, the idiot managers never did the full required maintenance on the generators causing efficiency to go down very fast. He also told me that most of the machines have already exceeded their maximum life.
If the government want to solve the energy problem then they should handover the work to the private sector. They should establish a publicly traded corporations to handle electricity, land phones, and mail services.

“BLAME THE FUCKIN PARLIAMENT! THAT’S DEMOCRACY FOR YOU….nothing but western BULL!”

Oh really?

So those running the country will allow us to go downhill just so we can suffer and blame the parliment and then have them shut it down and rule us as if we were 5irfan?

no thanks.

the government job to invest in technology and to find new innovations to get the cleanest and most efficient solutions for our country. Why dont they do that? why dont they invest in that? why dont they do anything without trying to benefit themselves or their friends?
Isn’t kuwait and people living on it that important?

they keep asking investors to put their money in kuwait. why bother and invest in kuwait if kuwait is not bothering to provide us with the most basic essentials like electricity?!

you know what kuwait is good at? a parlemt that barks, a ministers that sues, and kuwaitis kidnapped by police for talking.

way to go kuwait. it already feels like an act from masra7iyat Saif al 3arab.

Holla, What would this country be without the expats? mmm…..Let me think. Btw go for some English lessons.Preferbaly with an English speaking EXPAT.

oh crap!!!! the secrets out… first we wills steal all da electricity then all da red bullz… we will steals it all…. 3xp4ts f0r 3v4
