Q8Car Redesign

Just went to Q8Car.com to check out the prices of used FJ’s and noticed they’ve completely redesigned the site. Haven’t used it much but so far it still feels bloated. [Link]

My car from 2008 which was sold within 3 days is still showing up. And the username/password to delete the entry doesn’t work anymore.
At least I don’t got calls anymore as the effective price of the car is too high for 2010.

Redesign was a waste of money. Hire a better web design agency.

At least in the past we could’ve selected a year and show all the cars that match this year, not anymore. Also, why would they introduce a new section for specific information regarding the car (mileage, color, etc.) when they ignore it and post the same information in the little description box above it? Amateurs work.

Wow thats quite a harsh critique of the site which probably means all of you have no idea what your talking about. Site is slow because i assume they are dubugging all the issues once it went live so it will take a few days and im sure it will get faster. I use the site all the time and to be honest the redesign is amazing. The person who wrote visit q8mobil thats quite funny. The website redesign is amazing. The options are great im assuming they have migrated data from a crappy old site so a lot of the old data might be a little messed up but going forward this is an unbelievable platform. I have sold may be 10 cars on this site each time less than a few days.

This is a complete overhaul of the site so i assume its beta but to be honest i am extremely impressed. Once you log in the experience is amazing but they have not managed to get the knet and credit working yet. I called there offices and they said that this is part of the reason the site is slow cause they are integrating the code which i guess makes sense. They should have done this prior to launch but i can wait a day or two.

I felt i really needed to comment here because everyone i know in the country uses this website and everyone i know sells cars on this website and most of the people i know have tried to offer competitors to this website and they constantly fail time after time. Q8showroom being the first as we all know mark posted this big comparison of both sites and 1 year later that website is not even on the map.

Users of all these sites mainly in kuwait get on the car sites to sell there cars. No one and i repeat no one does it better than q8car.

I hope they continue to optimize whatever they are doing to speed up the system but its a beautiful site and i commend them.

m you are saying you cant believe how slow it was. The previous site was lightening fast for the last few months so obviously your not really a current user just wanted to tell you that you are right regarding this new one being slow but the old one was not slow at all recently.

Anyway excited to see who else in kuwait starts further developing there sites as i am sure that is going to happen. I am not sure why mazadq8 is on the site in the link though. Its very strange that an advertiser would have a part of q8car? Mazadq8 is another one of these insanely high traffic sites in kuwait but it needs a lot of work. Does anyone know why mazad is linked to q8car?

Just saw it as well a bit slow yes but the design is really nice. boats, bikes, greatly improved i posted my harley on it i love that the bike side is no fully functional amazing. the old site was easy and i got used to it but so far im liking this design

the knet and bank are still down? They need to fix this i want to put my car my self and i reached the end of the page and nothing happened. I went back to my listings and the car is still there in my inbox which is nice so i guess when they restart knet i will be able to pick up where i left off

i agree about the design though very sleek

Wow i just got on havent been on in a few days. The site looks extremely professional im amazed actually. True a little slow but i was able to browse smoothly. The color option is amazing. I searched for a jeep cherokee and chose black and it got me all the black ones on the site.

Very impressive

ehehhehehe mark your funny. I wish i had the honor. I dont even know who the owners of that site are. i was under the impression that dart media owned them then recently it came to my attention that its owned by a few kuwaiti partners and not a parr of dart media. Too bad for dart media

Let’s cut the crap, shall we?

James, I will not even comment back on how joyful and paradise-like your whole life became because of your experience with their redesign. I haven’t really gone through their source code since I didn’t even think it was worth it, but after reading your comment it was good enough for me to further dig into this. Let’s get to the technical part a bit, since you obviously say we don’t know what we are talking about so I assume you do know what you are talking about. Take a look at the main page source code and if you know anything about web development you can tell this was not done by professionals, the least you can say is this was done by amateurs. W3C Validation Results: 58 Errors and 13 Warnings. Good enough for you? Oh, and why are still using tables?

The site IS slow, and if it is that slow they should have never released it until they reached their targeted quality, assuming they did have one in mind. Heard about quality assurance? Do you even know what that is?

Debugging it while it’s live at this condition is not even an option, debugging at this stage should be done internally until it reaches a stable condition where they can actually release it.

Stop talking crap when you obviously have no idea what you are talking about other than your feelings that this redesign is a breakthrough in web development.

Hi jaja,

w3c validators are only used to check the validations of your strict HTML code. If you don’t believe it check yahoo.com(156 errors), google(46 errors), mark248am1.wpenginepowered.com(146 errors) .I totally agree that they cant be more professional than yahoo and google. Regrading the technical part I can assure you that ASP.Net is 1000 times better than the crappy interpreted(hope you know the difference between complied n interpreted) ASP. Writing down the things(like milage) I guess its because of the data they had from 5-6 years. Only thing i agree with you is it shouldn’t have been in production until it was bug free.

i dont know why jaja and james talking about. bas mashalla al site i like it very much its very nicely done i list car two days ago on main page and design very nice. today going to sell inshalla mashkoor q8car

its amazing how this post has generated so many hits. Seriously i will give my personal opinion here and i honestly don t care that much. I use this site all the time to gage prices in the market and general car browsing.

jaja i must admit i think they should have done further testing before going live. However the site is live now so i used it for about an hour yesterday and here are my findings. Once you register the experience is quite pleasant. This is def a step in the right direction. As far as the graphics and design go. I mean i guess it a matter of opinion at the end of the day but i found the colors to be lovely and the site to be quite easy on the eye. The top banners that keep rotating every refresh are well done but im willing to bet part of why the site is a bit laggy.

Overall very pleasantly surprised that this site is trying to make itself better because its probably the most site i ever hear anyone talk about. Thats cause us kuwaiti s are crazy about car lol

My post wasn’t approved ? I just wanted to say that the W3c is not standard to check for error with dynamic content

Just an FYI for everyone. The following people who have been complementing the website design:

farag
marwanz
james
mike
aalanizi

Are all posting from the same IP address so they’re the same person. Just deleted all their comments.

Stoned: I do know what W3C validator is used for, and that was exactly my point, that is XHTML 1.0 Strict. Where did you get your results from? Because I just did a check and Google has 0 errors and 2 warnings. Yahoo on the other hand has > 170 errors, and yahoo isn’t in it’s pretty shape anymore. Go check it yourself: https://validator.w3.org/. Compilation vs Interpretation is pretty much a HUGE issue to be discussed in here; no, compiled code does not mean it’s better than interpreted code and vice versa. Each has its pros and cons and each can be used where it performs better. Isn’t PHP an interpreted language? It is and it is one of the most widely used web languages to date. Let me ask you something, isn’t compiled code all about efficiency? Google (which we all agree how fast it is, and yes both software and hardware factors count) is using python, and guess what, python is interpreted too. There is rarely a case that a web page will be doing a simulation of 1 billion iterations that will require that amount of efficiency you would want from a compiler, so again neither are better than eachother, each have pros and cons. You shouldn’t even think at that level considering Q8Car functionalities.

Writing redundant information on the same page or completely ignoring the intended section where information should be written out is quite amateurish. They want to release, they should finish migrating then release, that includes migrating car-related data.

farag: I was talking about the code more than graphics, pretty shiny things aren’t always good things.

https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=www.google.com&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0 check it out yourself abt google. And PHP/ASP.Net/java servlets is complied code which is interpreted, Not just interpretted as like ASP. If interpreter code was better then we would still be using asp/php 1.0. And 1 billion iteration are not handled by 1 server or a small bunch of servers which makes huge difference Google runs over one million servers in data centers around the world (wiki).Coming to migration, migrating 10 years(as per q8car website)data that is not a easy task(Due to change in the DB schema, DB servers used on previous site). Even though most of errors are debugged in test envorinment there may be lots of issues when it comes on the live production(floodin,DOS/DDOS or even the high traffic for example ) which i assume is true with q8car as of today.

mark –

regarding your comment earlier where you said “all posting from the same IP address so they’re the same person”, i would like to edify you about the possibility that it could be many people using a common IP address.

in my case, note that i look like i am in manchester since i am using a private gateway although i am sitting in kuwait. there are quite a few other people that i don’t know that use the same gateway and would appear to you from the same address.

this also applies to multiple users in the same home, company, school or other LAN setup that use a common gateway to access the internet. so lets say you have a lot of AUK students reading an article on your site and commenting (and that is quite possible unless your somehow non grata there) they would all appear to have the same IP address if using the school’s connection.

I’m not sure why the released this site into the public domain:

“We thank you in advance for your patience and hope that we continue to provide you with the best customer service. The website may stop during the day for a few minutes ata time just until the bank integration is fully complete. Thanks Again”

Just a snippet from their note on the main page.

Forget the design, if they would just purge their database of old listings, that in itself would probably speed up the search pages. Their oldest “real” listing is from Jan 02 2008 (there are plenty that are in the Jan 01 1900, but anyone that knows programming will tell you, that’s just the result of bad database queries).

MARK!!! can U tell them that their website need some serious final touches..
a lot of problems in it LIKE u cant pick the year of make!! when you reach page 50 and want to back it take you to PAGE 1 !!! thats really annoying if your looking for something and that depressing flues staple across your search.

THANK YOU
