Qualitynet Prices Now Cheaper?

My Qualitynet DSL account expires next month and so I was just checking their website to see if they have any new offers because last year when I signed up they had a double your bandwidth offer. So I am checking to see how much 512KB will cost me this time around and to my surprise its KD100 cheaper. Last year if you signed up for 1 year of 256KB they would double the bandwidth to 512KB. I paid KD380 then. This time around I don’t see a double your bandwidth offer but a 512KB connection now costs KD280. The sad thing is 1MB is still KD560 a year which is double the price, maybe my sister who lives next door and steals uses my internet will pitch in for a 1MB (hint hint Rampurple). [Link]

Mark, the price drop is welcome, But I think its still expensive compared to other worlds. A friend of mine was telling me that 8 MB ADSL with unlimited transfers for 59 AU$ some where in south coast Aus. I think lack of cable system makes another big difference in entertainment and digital delivery in here.

Try getting the latest on what United Networks has to offer. I hear they also have a Satellite backup (just in case a fire happens to flare up in LT!).

kuwait dsl prices even with the discounts are abysmally high compared to the rest of the world especially the US and UK — prices there are low due to competition.

here you pay $1000 for 512mb and you get much less than that in actual speed, and random slow downs according to traffic and so forth

kuwait needs to open up its internet – right now you have two main Home providers — fasttelco and quality net – then you have Kems, the showtime thingie, and maybe 1 or 2 more

they all are reliant on min of commun services infrastructure and if one problem hits one they all get affected

kuwait has a LONG way to go to offer decent, reliable and reasonably priced ISP providers

no way would i ever go with united networks. I couldn’t believe when I left them so no way I am going back.

also i think all the providers in kuwait have satellite just incase of emergency..

Not all providers have THEIR OWN satellite back-up, and they have priotrity for important services, like banks and other things. So we dont have any priority with the service providers.
Fasttelco is the only one that has its own satellite and you guys saw what happened! Everything did go down! But the prices are going lower, but we shall see how things turn out over the next couple of years.

Like Amer said the main problem is that everyone is depending on the Ministery of Communications infrastructure, which is the core of the problem!

Why do you guys compare a Country that has a population of 2.5 million and an internet community that isnt even near 1 million users to countries that are packed with freaking people and almost half their population is on the net ?
FYI: in Japan standard internet connections are 24mbps, its like 8kd or something per month. Im not justifying the high prices, im just cutting them some slack.

ppl are talking about DSL prices in Kuwait, ok fine we have much hugher prices than others in this world .. lets try to think about something else .. for example U.S

they have like DSL for 2 KD or 5 KD ! ok then ? they pay Taxes everywhere (count it)

Humm , thats it 🙂

Hey Mark, I heard this from the horse’s mouth. Fasttelco bought their own Satellite connection, from the MOC, which is located in Sub7aan if Im not mistaken. The guy who told me is the head of corporate accounts for FT. But their main connection still goes through the MOC.

Sidenote Falcon Stream doesnt even work in Firefox how annoying is that!

Another thing we have going good in Kuwait in comparison to others is the price of gas. Gas prices in california used to kill me! My bill for gasoline spent in a month would be around 400-500 on a cheap month and close to 1000 in a traveling month! Its rediculous!

Hi Mark, I just paid 256 KD at fastelco for a year 256kb but they have a promotion now where they double it for free, so we are getting 512kb.

yeah but sweden is one of the most expensive countries in the world to live in…

so like they said, we might have expensive internet but we make up for it in other areas…

when i pay for 512 or whatever in the west i GET that – thats what people here dont seem to understand, you are not getting what you are paying for – they sell you isdn and call it DSL for example – and even if you get that speed you will suffer slow downs throughout the day – what are you gonna do? call them? i remember quality net a while back blaming ALL its problems on this “cable between us and bahrain” — and they used the same #$%^& excuse over and over again

kuwait is a rich country, it has billions, just this year we made $35 billion from high oil prices – why does the infrastructure everywhere in this country, the roads, the telephone, the internet, the sewage etc etc etc suck? 3rd world countries with much less than us have better infrastructure – we should be spending a shitload more on the infrastructure and i mean investing in the best – like what bahrain did when it made deal with microsoft to do electronic mailboxes for the govt – i dont mean offering a project to the chepaest tender or someones cousin or 12 different aquaintances — i mean investing in the best – look around you were still in the 70s

and btw living in kuwait is not cheap – the mobile rates are not cheap – when was the last time you get an itemized bill from MTC? the coops are not cheap, buying a car is not cheap compared to other gulf countries, and i could go on and on – and when taxation is imposed, and trust me, it will be imposed, what other excuses will you have over Kuwaits advantage over other countries?

let me give you an example, you pay lets say KD 120 for showtime – which is a great network and has the latest series and films – and it is owned by hamad sabah al ahmed – joint venture with viacom – and based on dubai. Everytime i have a problem with the showtime card i call customer service who tell me to take the card to farwaniya or to wait 15 minutes on the ‘movie network’ so they can send me a ‘ping’ – that is the customer service in kuwait – even though it is kuwaiti owned. Compare that to showtime UAE – efficient, always calling customers, sending email surveys and actually answering queries. Imagine you have a kuwait owned company that is better managed in UAE than here – what does that tell you?

2 things I wish kuwait had.

cable internet, off peak downloading rate of 890kbps to 1.2mbps

pay 20 kd to recharge your phone and get 160kd worth of phone calls, each minute is cheaper than the cheapest kuwaiti mob2mob phone call.
