A week back I posted about how I wanted the HPI Baja 5b, a giant 1/5 scale radio controlled buggy. Well since then I’ve changed my mind. Turns out the buggy is too big to be allowed to race on the new off-road track that’s being built by the Radio Control Car Club of Kuwait near the 360 Mall (29°16’16.34″N 48° 0’10.48″E). The off-road track is going to be one of the largest in the world (they’re checking to see if it’s actually the largest) so it would be a shame if I couldn’t take advantage of it.
The track (pictured above) should be ready in 2 weeks time and anyone will be allowed to use it. Members have to pay KD2 per day of track use while non-members pay KD5. It’s going to be very cool and next year they’re planning on holding the Asian championship here in Kuwait. The picture above is made of multiple pictures combined since my wide camera lens wasn’t enough to fit the whole track. You can see a larger version of that picture [Here]
If I want to compete in the weekly friendly races on the track I need to get a nitro 1/8 scale buggy and I am currently leaning towards a 2009 XRAY XB808 (pictured above). I hadn’t heard of the XRAY up till yesterday but from what I’ve read it’s the Rolls Royce of R/C cars.
If you would like to get more information about the Radio Control Car Club of Kuwait (RCCCK) who are responsible for building this track and setting up all the events then visit their website [Here]

Intresting. I wonder if they have any rules against what you can and can’T add to your . . . rig.
They do. They follow the IFMAR 1/8 off road rules and regulations.
Ah. Thanks for that Mark.
What about entry to see the races? Do we have to pay admission charges?
No, you only pay if you want to race your car on the track
just checked out the XB808 specs.. man you werent kidding about the rolls royce comparison! whoa this is gonna burn a huge hole in your pocket.
Loved the way you gave out a grid location directory!!
I fixed the google maps link.

Check out the upgrades below. Really great quality stuff.
wow carbon graphite, machined aluminum parts! this is the sweetest model i’ve ever seen! but 599 is a little out of my league for an r/c car. š
599 is without the servos, receiver, controller, engine, wheels, starter… š
interesting .. really very big place !
how much does an r/c cost? a nice fast one?
great, kuwaits gonna get reknown for racing remote control cars… guess we’ll be the laughing stock of the gulf :/
Would I be able to compete with my traxxas revo 3.3 on that track?
Bader, I would not agree with your statement on the laughing stock, if you knew the history of Kuwait in the RC hobby you would know that we were the first GCC country to have established the hobby in the region.
However with time like everything else in Kuwait we are now the last country in everything.
Thanks to the efforts of many at the Kuwait Science Club, for the last 5 years we have become known to be the best in the region.
Now be that from scale cars to real racing cars thats not a small effort.
FYI, Kuwait is the first Arab country to become a member in the IFMAR https://www.ifmar.org
No one has done that from all the arab countries let alone GCC, and FYI Kuwait will soon be the governing body for all future Middle East RC competitions that fall under the umbrella of IFMAR.
It may sound small in scale hell it’s just model rc cars, but trust me on this one, it is not.
We have people racing in this hobby from the age of 14 to early 40’s and yes it’s a full fledged race.
Jetski’s started as a joke, now look where they are ??? 3rd ranked in the world.
Did you know model RC planes is an Olympic sanctioned event ???
For all information related to the standards of racing you can find all the information on our club website https://www.rccck.org under the FAQ section
Nawaf, thanks for the information š
btw, do you know where the rc flying site in kuwait that has a runway or free space?
Mark, any idea?
Xray’s Are not bad but i think you should get a Kyosho as its the Tamiya of Buggy’s Easy to get parts for and really durable
I want to get something thats very durable and thats why I chose the XRAY. It’s a lot more durable than any Kyosho from what I’ve read.
Damn I need to get into this ASAP
Nooooooooooooo Mark Buy Baja 5b š more fun man. 45min of fun.
Mark with your Baja you can hit any of these Nitro and make it 2-3 pieces.
hehehe now the Nitro Gang will jump on me, Chilllllll Guys š heheh

The Kyosho inferno mp9 it is the best buggy
According to who? From what I’ve read all buggies are equal, the Kyosho, Xray, Losi eight, Mugen mbx6, they all are in the same league just each possessing a different advantage.
Post no.23 is a very true statement, you just have to understand that one driver who drives a specific model will always say his car is the best, it’s like a BMW driver would never drive a Merc or a ferrari driver would not drive a porsche.
Like Mark said they are all in the same league and they are all just as good as each other, each car handles differently because of the weight distribution factor in the chassis component layout, but they all drive just as good.
If you want a justifiable statement to the above, then you should see the world championship video for the 2008 Offroad WC in the USA.
Nawaf thanks for that. I didn’t mean it in anyway disrespectful, but when it comes down to it, there are a majority of people in Kuwait who street race their cars and spend alot more money on this. I just wish the ministry could actually help this out instead of check points and raids and publishing them in the newspaper!
Is the track a minsitry owned one, or privately owned? If ministry, please let me know who and where so I can start a pertition or at least a campaign to finally open a proper 1/4mile club or track in Kuwait.
Iām with you Bader!
Now, We have 4 R/C tracks in Kuwait, which is good for us. But we need a real track to enjoy our sports cars and sport bikes!
Anyone know if they’ll have practice events on the weekends?
I dont like racing in championships or points series š
every weekend is practice/friendly races.
That’s great! I can finally run my Losi 8B in a proper race. LMK when you get your Xray, I wanna race you haha.
Wow finally some real RC in Kuwait, I was happy reading about the new track news. dunno if ready for the challenge again :). I used to race in the late 80’s here in Kuwait, I’m a Kyosho man and always made sure that Kyosho wins š https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ec2WZI68Os still continuing with hobby in my RC room in my house https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a96/marwankw/temp1.jpg
great news again Mark
Anyone please give some ideas about RC cars. I’m interested when I saw the videos. As a beginner what type of RC car you guys recommend me to start with. Thanks.
