Review: Poshcafe

I’ve been wanting to pass by Poshcafe at the 360 Mall for sometime now since the place looked trendy and interesting and today I finally did for lunch. They don’t have a large menu but they do mix it up with variety like salads, soups, pastas, burgers, sandwiches and desserts. Their burgers are actually sliders made with Angus beef and I was really tempted to try it but decided instead to start with a Mushroom & Gruyère soup followed by a healthy Posh Club sandwich. Nat had a salad as usual.

The mushroom soup came first and it looked good but although the soup looked like it contained herbs, I couldn’t taste them and the whole thing turned out to be a bit bland. It wasn’t bad but I think it just tasted very average. The Posh Club which is their club sandwich was served once I had finished my soup. Presentation wise it looked really good and when I took my first bite I tasted something that seemed interesting. They use a “special” sauce with their club sandwich which I think is similar to the tahina sauce you get with meat shawermas. Although it tasted interesting at first by the third sandwich I realized the sauce was too heavy and turned what was supposed to be a light lunch into a heavy one and I didn’t like that since I might as well have gone with the sliders.

For the final score I am going to give them a 3.5 out of 5. I really liked the style of the place, the waitress was very friendly and they have a huge selection of desserts (which I didn’t try) that looked really good. My only issue is with the food I ordered, both of which I wouldn’t have again because they were just so average. Price wise they’re decent but maybe a bit on the high side with some items. Nat thought her salad was expensive since for the same price she could have had the salad bar at Le Notre. I thought the soup could have been a bit cheaper but the club sandwich was priced just right. The next time I go back I would probably try their slider and have a dessert instead of a starter.

Small mixed salad: KD2.750
Mushroom & Gruyère: KD2.450
Posh Club: KD2.750

Mark,

I went there today, just to have a coffee after we had been in Wagamamas.

I thought the coffee was good, the latte being better than the cappucino.

I thought the cup were kinda cute and the food looked good from what i saw

I like the idea of posting their actual menu, so we can see exactly what they have and with prices. You should do it more often.

I think by looking at their menu, their chef must be a bit confused as to what they are serving. Indian, Italian, American, Asian….. all in a small menu. It will leave people confused !

with all my respect Mark, I wouldnt review a venue by ordering mushroom soup and club sandwich; these items are what we chefs call menu fillers and they are designed for diners who are non experimental or merely satisfying a caving of sort.

Mark even though you were after a light lunch, you could’ve ordered a few more items, including 1 dessert, or at least waited to go again and order different things in order to formulate a full opinion

As it is now, your review doesn’t say much for or against the place and you gave it 3.5 stars. What if you go again and eat something you really like? Would you revise it to 4 stars?

Zaydoun: I can’t visit every restaurant 10 times and each time order a different thing from the menu to formulate a review, that’s not practical. I visit the place, I experience it, I eat my food and leave. Then post a review. If I go next time and there was a drastic difference in my experience I would update the post like I have previously done:

I gave the place a 3.5 which is a good score and it wasn’t like my experience wasn’t great because of something that could have been avoidable like food arriving cold, or a waitress that was extremely rude. Everything went right its just that the food was average.

Mark, I had dinner there tonight after reading this and the menu indeed was small like you said representing a cafe but it was filled with well prepared food and certainly way above average. Tried the warm Za3ter cheese skillet, the crab taco and the indian pizza and non was disappointing. I also had the Pecan pie and it was superb. You should have taken photographs of shop its really cool and thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I heard that new menu is coming soon this week.
We have to go & check it out the new items with more delicious food provide~

Now this is a great contemporary cafe with good flavorful fusion food and the girls are lovin it ..a worthwhile in a much disappointing 360
