Review: Slider Station

slider station

Slider Station is a new restaurant that opened up around a month ago. Its a local creation by the same guys behind Burger Boutique. I passed by yesterday night with Nat and a friend for dinner and I left the place extremely impressed and I will tell you from now that I gave the place a full 5 out of 5 rating without the slightest hesitation.

Since the place is pretty small you need to call ahead to reserve a spot. We called on Friday to reserve 3 places at the bar for Sunday night. I had seen the actual location before it was built, I saw sketches on how it would end up looking like and I even so pictures of the interior taken by various other bloggers after Slider Station was launched but even though, when I got to the place I was astonished. Pictures really don’t do the place any justice. I think its currently one of the nicely designed places in Kuwait, everything about it from the walls, to the chairs to the food conveyor belt, everything was paid attention to.

The food conveyor belt, thats the reason we asked for the bar seats. One of the coolest things at Slider Station is the large u-shaped bar taking up the majority of the space on the ground floor. Its surrounded by very comfortable seating and the bar has a built in conveyor belt. Each group at the bar is assigned a number and they serve your food by rolling it out on the conveyor belt. For example our number was 1 so all the dishes that came out on the conveyor belt with the number 1 in front of it was ours. Its a nice gimmick that is both practical and fun. The music that was being played was really cool and their choice of plates, cutlery and glasses were just spot on.

I could talk more and more about the actual look of the place but it would all mean nothing if the food wasn’t any good. The most popular burgers at Burger Boutique are the sliders. Sliders are mini burgers simply put and what Slider Station did was take them to a different level. I don’t know exactly how many different sliders they have but I think they were over 15 variations ranging from beef, to chicken to fish. Unlike in Burger Boutique where sliders come in groups of 4, at Slider Station, each slider order is just a single slider. This makes things A LOT more fun since you could mix and match sliders as you wish. I personally ordered the Roast Beef slider, the Wagyu slider with mature english cheese, the Caribbean crab slider which is a crab burger with a delicious mango sauce, and finally a Hammour slider. For appetizer we had two types of fries, the regular and the extra thin and crispy one. We also had buffalo wings and duck quesadillas. Everything was just really good, the presentation, the flavor, the buns, it was just perfect. There wasn’t anything I could find wrong with the place but I hadn’t ordered the dessert yet so before I could give it a final score I had to try their chocolate pudding. As you could already guess, I must have liked the dessert or else I wouldn’t have given the place a full five out of five. Yes, the chocolate pudding rocked!

So, good food, good atmosphere, good variety and good prices. I don’t know of any other restaurant in Kuwait that deserves a better rating. Final score five out of five. To get reservations call 2465047. They are open from 7PM to 11PM. You can also check out their blog by going to www.sliderstation.com

note: I forgot to mention, they are located on the Gulf Road between Seef Palace and the House of Parliament.

I went there friday before last… the time was about 10-10:30 P.M. … the place was EMPTY aside from three people (2 guys and a girl) sitting at the bar… the outside seating was empty too… so i asked for a table for two for me and my wife. Guess what they told me? Sorry Sir, Fully booked! For god’s sake we could see into the restaurant and it was empty! Ok then is there like a waiting list or something so we could wait?

Guess what was the guys reply? Here is our card for next time sir. Meaning that if you camp outside our empty place all night, you will not be seated by us!!! Unless you do reserve by phone, you will not get seated whatever you do!

So, me and my wife, trodded over to burger hub -FLOWING WITH PEOPLE- all tables full… we go inside, a table for two sir? one moment … and voila! here we are, sitting happily! Had a nice meal, enjoyed our time, and went home and guess what? we strode over to the slider station… STILL EMPTY….

Abdulaziz what i understood is that the place is fully booked from the time they open till they close and thats why you have to reserve a few days ahead of time. I am guessing even though you saw empty seats they were probably already reserved for other people.

This is a local restaurant, isn’t it? It really sounds very cool. I just visited their blog, and from the blog I could sense how cool is their atmosphere.

Thanks for the review.

Zaydoun they have i think 6 tables in total and maybe 10 seats at the bar. but its really cool, you dont feel like you are in kuwait.

Believe me mark, it was late at night almost 11 p.m. and on a Friday night and usually crowds tend to be thinning towards closing time… we stayed for over an hour at burger hub and we went back to slider to see the reserved tables afterwards and still the tables were empty… not half half, completly empty! I think when you are starting you have to be friendly to people or at least seat us outisde or offer an hour wait or something… I found it really rude for an empty place that was still empty o almost near closing time…

Yet i liked their slider station business card! New shape for a business card.

I recall when borj il hamam first opened, you could never get a reservation not for weeks! yet… they told us in their second week of opening that if you come after 10:30 p.m. we can get you a table no reservation required! So whats up with the slider station? It’s a shame really as i was really looking forward to trying it

abdulaziz i am sure if you email them your complaint they might be able to answer you.

You shouldn’t compare Slider Station to burj al hammam though. As I mentioned above slider station has only 6 tables. Its a tiny place with very limited seating, burj al hamam is huge!

Hey Mark I’m really glad you enjoyed it and got awarded your five stars! I hope you get to try the other tapas next time πŸ™‚

As for the reservation issue, its really small and we are short staffed to open the outside area at the moment, so if it looked empty at one point its because the people hadn’t arrived. The exact thing happens to Maki Salmiya. We close at 11pm at the moment so its normal for it to be empty after 11pm ! Having a reservation is for added convenience to customers due to difficulity of parking spots. We do however gladly take walk-ins in case of availability.

Is there a veggie burger of any kind in the menu?

The meat patty texture is it fine like the one at the Boutique or more (chunky) ?

If the place is as good as it sounds the owners should go for a bigger branch in Avenues mall ASAP. 6 tables is way too little and Kuwaitis don’t like to wait 3 days for a table no matter how great the food is.

sliders i think start from 600fils and go up to KD1.950
The crab slider was the most expensive slider i had, KD1.950
Roast Beef slider was 950fils
Wagyu with mature english cheese slider for kd1.5
Hamour for KD1.250
Chocolate Pudding was KD2.5 (shareable by 2 people)
Duck quesadillas KD2.950
fries KD1.5
Wagyu Portobello slider KD1.950
and Buffalo wings KD2.5

The same things you have mentioned for liking the place are the exact things why I hated it and give it zero out of 5.

Perfect score?! The fact that you have to reserve a few days ahead is enough to drop the score.

i agree with purgatory. that thing in the middle was useless, what if flies fell in it while you waited for the food to get to you?! and the seats were tiny, i could barely fit my ass on it

Loved the atmo Reminded me of the mOvie Cars lol route 66…, yet burger boutique’s menu was more attracting!

OMG, you guys are never open to new things. All you do is complain and the funny thing is that you always complain about the limited things that are to be done in Kuwait. i mean how would there be variety if you don’t allow new things to happen. Equalizer, don’t be put off by these guys they have nothing better than complaining !

Equlaizer, great place you got there… keep up the good work πŸ™‚

Reservations are ok and usually i do not go anywhere without one yet all im saying is to have a table available for walk ins … and the fact that you close by 11 p.m. and the place should be empty… Thats my point exactly… the place is almost empty and you will close by 11 or 12 max… what are the odds that all the reserved tables which were empty by 10:30 will be all filled up in less than an hour? You see what i mean?

“Carlsb3rg some of the best restaurant’s in the world the waiting period is like months. 3 days is nothing.”

You are talking about the BEST RESTAURANTS in the world Mark. With all due respect to Slider Station but I can’t believe it is one of these restaurants.

I think you are a bit biased in your evaluation mark.

Most people are impulsive in deciding which restaurants to go to in here. Booking three days in advance won’t fit this at all.

mishref how am i being biased?

i didn’t say that slider station is the best restaurant in the world. carlsberg said that because you have to reserve in advance then the restaurant should get less then 5. i was showing him that there are restaurants where you wait for months and yet they didnt lose any points for that so why should slider station lose points?

you really are missing the point with slider station. its not meant to compete with chilis, or bourj al hamam or any other large restaurant. its a small joint, with limited seating. not everyone who has to open a restaurant has to open one with enough seating for 500 people. just because the place is small doesnt make it less of a restaurant.

And guys they are having a soft opening at the moment hence the limited hours of opening and no service outside.

I haven’t tried slider station yet but have heard good things. I eat at Burger hub quite a lot so i know that is great. The jalapeno and cheese poppers are the best.

Pink Moon is on the same strip so pass by while you’re waiting for a table;)

I like the idea of using sliders as main dish instead of appetizers. Definitely will be checking it out this December. I’m a little bit cynical about the perfect score though…especially since you rarely give perfect scores LOL πŸ˜€

well the last time i gave a five i think was for the chocolate cheesecake from lorenzo.

another 5 i would give is to the chocolate fondant at Water Lemon, but i was told to try the chocolate bar version first cuz supposedly theirs is better.

Mark,
The comparison with the best restaurants in the world is irrelevant.
If Slider Station was one of those restaurants, the comparison would make sense.

Abdulaziz: I know how frustrating it is when you don’t get a table, give it another shot with reservation and I can guarantee you it will be full. Table turnover in a small restaurant with reservations tend to have such problems. I could switch to walk-in only system but I hate to have customers wait in the heat since its not inside a mall like Burger Boutique. BTW I could increse my revenue with walk-in and waiting list system, but that is a short term vision. I’d rather have customers fully relaxed when they walk in and not drenched in sweat by waiting πŸ™‚ Anyways if there is anything else I can do please drop me a line and I would be more than glad to help πŸ™‚

yes, whenever you see a high rating its because the food was free. whenever you see a low rating it means i had to pay.

I should add a legend to my ratings explaining that lol

Why is everyone so paranoid? He went to the restaurant, loved it, and wrote about it. You don’t have to agree if you’ve gone to Slider Station and have a different opinion, but if you haven’t tried it there’s no point in arguing.

Mark I saw the interior and it’s really cool. Equalizer was kind enough to give me a private tour pre-opening, when I popped my head in out of curiosity

Nouf… when is ur official opening?!

I’ve been to Slider Station and give it a 5 out of 5 too. The food was excellent, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and the interior design and finishings were excellent. This is certainly one of the best places in Kuwait. As for having to make a reservation, what’s the big deal? Are people too lazy to pick up a phone? It won’t affect their business because there are plenty of people out there who appreciate places like this and don’t mind having to call in advance. You don’t like the policy, don’t go. Simple as that.

Equalizer, keep up the great work. You’ve set the bar for local businesses to new heights.

Equalizer,

To be frank i was kinda reluctant to go back after the treatment i got. My wife is nagging and nagging so im going to give in a shot. I will add to this review when we are done and you know what? I can already picture a quality time there πŸ™‚

Just a note: if your place wasn’t worth visiting, it wouldn’t have mattered much if we didn’t get a table πŸ˜‰ we just wanted that empty table by the window :p

I went there maybe a month ago. I loved the design. I loved the appearance of the food. The tapas were great. But the sliders were awful… Sorry, bes I would never give it a 5 because the beef itself tasted so bad I couldn’t eat my sliders! I dunno if it was only THAT day, or if it’s always like that, but Burger Boutique sliders taste much better. If I go back, I’ll definitely not be having any burgers.

Anything on the menu good enough for vegeterians? My wife is and cannot stand the taste of beef, fish, or chicken!

Zaydoun…we are open now in the afternoons…not sure about an official opening party cause we would have too many people to invite and not enough space…

Carlsb3erg…Discussion is great but you should give the place a try before you judge. Maybe some people think it is one of the best restaurants so if they want to compare it to the best restaurants around the world then why not. I happen to think this tiny thai restaurant in Kuwait is one of the best but that’s just me…

Mark: between Sief Palace, which is on the sea side and the House of Parliament a street … so how it could be between them. Please i need the direction i really wanna go there so soon πŸ™‚

Nouf, the point i was discussing is not related to the restaurant itself, but to how mark reviewed it.

Carlsb3rg there was nothing wrong in the way i reviewed it. I don’t mind reserving before I go. If you do then in your review you could complain about that and reduce the points.

Look at your Noodle Factory review.
“Not going to spend to much time on this review since there isn’t much to talk about. ”

You call that a review?

Anyways, I don’t do complaints, I’ll leave that to you πŸ™‚

Carlsb3rg what do you call it then? I didn’t know there was a certain format I had to follow when it came to writing reviews. Please enlighten us all.

carls lat7awel, i gave up after that fake 248 incident, kelmen bayan 3ala 7aqeqta

farawla will you stop being a cry baby. i deleted your post and i explained to you why very nicely and logically. get over it already will you?

What post? I was referring to irish’s and a couple of others, not mine to begin with

and no I wont, you have to hear the truth from someone

farawla I already spoke to Irish and explained to her why her post was deleted. I only contact the original posters, I don’t make a public announcement.

im suprised u gave this restaurant 5/5!
First of all, its too small. One cannot sit comfortbaly and enjoy his meal.
The menu is also small and many foods weren’t even available!
The food was also not good and expensive. I could enjoy a larger portion at any other decent restaurant e.g. fridays, chilis, applebees etc.
However the chocolate pudding was extremely tasty and was the one of the few plus points of the restaurant. My suggestions: make the place bigger, include more dishes, expand the conveyer belt bar possibly making it also on the first floor.

I wish that the owner of slider reads my post. I want to tell him the situation that happened to me past Tuesday June 12th.
I heared about slider station and that the number of tables are limited and thus reservation is a must. SO i did my homework, called one week in advance and reserved for that Tuesday and invited my friends. We were a group of four. Monday of the same week, I received a call from slider to reconfirm my reservation. When my frnds and I were on the way, I called to reaasure the table is ready. A person spoke to me and insisted that my resevation was on Monday not Tuesday and that I DID SHOW UP ON MONDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. So instead of discussing with his staff how the reservation got mixed up, he accused me of coming on MONDAY. I told him, what is it about your place that would make me come on monday and then call next day and lie in order to get a table????? Do u think that I have nothing to do in my life but to come to your rstrnt. I have never in my whole life and in all rstrnts around the globe faced such a situation that the manager accusses the customer of something the have no idea abt. He then understood his mistake but after what?? I lost my appetit and my dinner with my friends had already been ruined.

Munirah can i just say two words, BS. Just felt compelled to give my 2 cents. You see people need to understand the EBAY method, if your not happy with the seller, before you give him bad marks or a bad review. You take your problem to the management and if nothing works out to your satisfaction then berate the person.

I got my first taste of Sleder Station yesterday. I was amazed. Yeah, the food was great-YUM! BUt I was really wowed by the decor. The attention to detail was awesome!!! From the worn signboard outside to the innovative layout, everything was beautiful. LOVED the chalk board!!! I’ve heard one of the owners comes up with concepts and designs-he must be a creative genius…Great job.

Hi Mark.
I’ve been to Slider Station many times and it really is great. The whole design, the atmosphere and most of all the music.. simply amazing.
And there is one waitress, i forgot her name, she’s great. Good service, great sense of humor and her is “bashoosh” as we say πŸ˜‰

i give it 5 tooooo

Slider Station has a new menu now. With half the variety and twice the price. I truly think your review is due for an update.
It feels now that the place is about profit rather than customer experience and ambience.
