As I mentioned last August, Shake Shack will be opening in place of Le Pain Quotidien at The Avenues. Since then I’ve been waiting and waiting for PQ to close down and I just found out they’ve now gone ahead and closed. This means they should start construction on Shake Shack right away and hopefully open up very soon. For those of you who live in Dubai, Shake Shack is opening up at Mall of Emirates this Thursday.
I think we’re going to be super lucky here because I highly doubt we’re going to have to wait in line for their burgers in the same way you don’t have to wait in line at Magnolia Bakery in Dubai. Below are pictures of the lines at both Shake Shack and Magnolia Bakery in New York. I waited 40 minutes in line at Shake Shack just to place an order!
What I still don’t know though is who will supply Shake Shack in the Middle East with the beef. In the US the beef is supplied by the famous Pat LaFrieda but I previously emailed them asking if their beef was Halal and they said it wasn’t. Hopefully by now they’ve worked some sort of deal with LaFrieda regarding this but will have to wait and see.

Super cool 🙂 I’m leaving to Dubai tmrw, can’t wait to try it.
I just hope that the place is not too crowded, and that we can get a table.
Cool news 🙂
Oh man I can’t wait! And then pick up some Mark&Nat cookies afterwards!
i’ve been walking by PQ at the Avenues for a few weeks now just waiting for the day put up that Shake Shack sign. Cannot wait!!
Lines at Pinkberry and lines at Shakeshack? I hope not
I’m gonna try to check out the one in Dubai this week

How are these burgers any different than the 20 or so other burger places in Kuwait?
Burhan not all burgers are the same. There’s different types of patties, buns, sauces, cooking techniques etc.. burgers are like snowflakes, in the end it’s just snow, but no snow flake is like the other.
I agree with you Mark, but I guess one has to have a discerning palette to distinguish these.
The best burger I have had so far in Kuwait is from Fuddruckers. I hope Shake Shake can compare to that.
Burhan… they’re probably not much different. At the original Shake Shack, 3/4 of the experience is the queue and eating outside on benches on Madison Park, New York. Their burgers are tasty, but not really earth-shattering and certainly not worth all this fuss (sorry Mark)
Zaydoun you have a good point!!! so the guys at al shayaa should build an aquarium garden with benches look alike Madison square.. NOW THAT’S MY FRD A GR8 IDEA 😉
and don’t forget the beer!
Zaydoun thats so not true. Eating in the park is cool true but don’t tell me the queue is part of the experience that makes the burger great, if anything its what makes their burgers crap cuz u got to wait in line to get them. Their upper west side also has shitty seating area but yet their burgers still taste good.
In Kuwait we don’t have burgers like Shake Shacks, the closest is probably Johnny Rockets but flavor wise its completely different. Also don’t forget about their fries and custard shakes!
I personally preferred Five Guys to Shake Shack but both those burgers would rank in my top 5 soooo easily.
Five Guys was my favorite new burger I tried during my last visit home … used to place my order online then walk in past the line and grab the goods 🙂
unfortunately, FG says they are not exploring overseas expansion at the moment.
I really think a nice tasty juicy burger is worth the waiting!!!:):)
Guys guys plz IN N Out Burgers are the best in the world for me, much better than shake shacks, & Five Guys.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over rated !!!!!!!
I haven’t had the pleasure of a burger from Shake Shack, but I can say that the best burgers I’ve ever had are from In N’ Out in SoCal. After all this hype of Shake Shack I sincerly hope they are as good as everyone says they are because they certainly look delicious.
I haven’t had in N out but from what I’ve read at aht.seriouseats.com, it’s better than shake shack!
Yeah they are very well known in Southern California, and are slowly branching out of there into other Southwestern US states. Rumor has it that they are refusing to branch further because of quality control issues, and want to keep up the good name. If you ever make it out to Southern California give them a try with their famous Double Double, and you can skip the fries. Another famous local brand is Tommy’s Burgers!

The one you have doesnt direct you to the post 😉
Oh great….. One slightly healthy eating place bites the dust for yet another burger/chips place!!! What is wronggggg with you guys??? Why always this fat/greasy/unhealthy food??? And ofcourse the fat americans queu for this. Look at the size of that nation??? Another place i will noy check out. Why oh whyyyy???
Uhhhh …. this fat American is quite happy to stand in a LINE don’t know anything about a que 🙂 BTW .. PQ didn’t bite the dust .. it is merely moving to Phase II Avenues. And yes I do enjoy PQ quite a bit. Variety my dear friend.
Whenever i pass by the Shake Shack opening soon in Mall of the Emirates i remember you Mark :p
I think it is great news that it’s opening up…
but china it’s place in the Avenues is not suitable for a burger joint? PQ was perfect in that location… i think it should have had a big place like Johnny Rockets… burgers and people watching cafe style seating doesn’t add up…
Then again maybe they are expecting a lot of crowds and lines so they wanted an open space?
Anyways they are opening up! Congratulations 😀
Without the beef, its just another place for burgers.
gotta be better than those damn kafta burgers they serve at Choc & Mac and Let’s Burger …
I WANT TO go to DUBAI now!! i really want to try shake shack! hope its as good as i hear it is!
I was yesterday at Shake Shack in the Mall of the Emirates and must say: the Burger is overpriced and not better than a whopper at burger King. THey have zillions of staff running around there but if just does not feel cozy.
Tom
not sure SS is looking to make their establishment ‘cozy’. it is a high-traffic, quality ingredient type of joint … and comparing it to a Whopper is like comparing a Bentley to a Hyundai … and finally, if you’ve been in the Mid East for any length of time you will accept the fact that EVERYTHING is overpriced … just sayin’
