Shawerma Review: Dodo

dodo

Although there are a ton of shawerma places near my house Dodo is the place I frequent the most. The staff are friendly and quick and they also have a wide range of sandwiches to choose from. Personally my favorite sandwich at Dodo is their chicken shawerma.

I don’t know how accurate this story is but I remember being told that the owner of Dodo was also the owner of Barakat, my favorite shawerma place back in the day when they were open in the old Salmiya near Fay (opposite Hardees). I think its true because one of the employees of Barakat now works at Dodo but it could be just a big coincidence. Dodo is a Lebanese restaurant that serves Lebanese style of food ranging from falafel to burgers to shawermas. One of the advantages of having shawerma at a Lebanese place is the garlic, and the garlic at Dodo is pretty damn good. As I’ve said before, there are only three things in a shawerma, the bread, the chicken and the garlic. The bread is easy to get right so no worries there. The chicken although the taste of it is important, even if you mess up you can cover up your tracks with good garlic since the garlic can cover the taste of the chicken. Now I am not saying there is a problem with the chicken at Dodo, on the contrary, the chicken is really good but the garlic is where its all at.

The size of the shawerma is pretty small and I usually have 3 to fill me up sometimes with a side order of their fries. The price of each shawerma is 300 fils which is cheap and I think with the quality of their shawerma they could easily price it at 350 fils and no one would complain especially when their most recent competitor, Vila Fayrouz Express charges 750 fils for theirs. All is not perfect though, Dodo suffers from lack of consistency which pisses me off. Sometimes I feel the chicken is undercooked and I hate it when that happens but luckily it doesn’t happen often. Final score is 4 out of 5. Dodo is located near La Baguette on Baghdad Street.

Don’t get your hopes up, the shawerma isn’t similar to the one Barakat used to do, I don’t think there is any place that does the same shawerma.

Hey Mark! speaking of shawarmas, ever heard of Mr. Sub’s? Man, their food is so damn good! you may also wanna try their FRESH subs & burgers, trust me πŸ˜›

hey mark since u like chicken shawarmas alot, u should try them at “mais al reem”, their chicken is grilled on coal and u can have extras as well such as pickles and fries in the shawarma itself and i love the garlic they have with the shwarama, the place is behind Eureka next to “tarab audio”, u can also spot it easily when ur driving on the gulf road, try it and tell us wat u think !!

Dodo! well the thing with me and dodo is its only 1 minute from my house…and even though there is la baguette next to it…i always have dodo when no-ones at home or when moms cooked something i dont like…although i goto la baguette say when the shawerma still isnt on…but yea…have had gazillions of shawermas from Dodo…damn it … i want shawarma now! and theres shit shawarma in pakistan…they serve it so proudly…they have no idea how shit it is down here…cant wait to get back to kuwait!

I like their Falafel sandwiches. Never tried the shawerma, might try it next time.

It’s the one near 7adee8at elsh3b, right?

you’re right mark , The pizza guy in Dodo he is the same guy used to work in Barakat. I’ve talked to him months ago and I remember him. Try the pizza (cheese&Sausage) it’s just 3ajeeeeeeba !!

funny. I also had chicken shawerma sandwich, not in Lebanese but in Palestinian place, today. It was yuuuummmmiiiii!!!! Dipped my fries in friend’s babaganoosh!!! Can;t tell wich was better. Mark, what are we eating tomorrow!!! πŸ™‚

OHHHH MYYY GOD am gona kick your ass mark why didnt you get me some you said that when ever your going to have one your going to buy me a couple your such a ka7teeeee SHAWERMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ABNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Kurdo would be more like 1 out of 5, i do not like their service, and they refuse to do what u want, the best way to eat Shawerma is from the slice to the bread, not to have it cut and mixed with stuff on the tray…..and they refuse to do that…

Mark, this is an offtopic question, but i really don’t know where else to ask.
I’m trying to get internet access @ home in lebanon, and so far they’ve told us it will cost us about 1500 dinars just to get the service working at home. We don’t have phone line yet so they’re getting us a wireless connection.
i haven’t met those technicians but i’m almost certain they’re scamming us.
so can you please explain to me how to get internet access in lebanon? what kind of connections are there? i’m thinking of getting the needed tools here from kuwait and then set them up there my self >_

I haven’t tried Weekends but I’ve tried the place next to it called Malek al 3aseer and it was my favorite for a long time. Haven’t had it for a while now though.

the best shawarma place would be Al-gadeer in salwa .. especially meat shawarma .. get it before 9pm.

Aziz ~ if I may. Better get a phone line (very quick now) and install a DSL which is newly introduced. This will be a lot cheaper than any satellite link.
Don’t even think about dial-ups,,, you may end up smashing your PC and throwing out the window.
I would also like to hear what Mark has to say..

well, the good thing at dodo is their super falafels, its totally super. as for shawrmas, well the sugoq shwarimas at j3eeta in salmiya is pretty good. did u ever try the beef shawirma at Naba3 el 3a9ir in Khitan? they’re pretty good too. But I get most of my sandwiches from Weekend, near AUK, pretty good too.

Two good places for shawerma

1) Modka (Lebanese food cafe)
in Souk Al Kabir

2) Tabiee-A Turkish food joint opposite
Kuwait Chamber Of Commerce.
Their mutton shawerma is much better
than Badar Bidoor.
