Sneak Peek: MELENZANÈ

Last night I was invited to sneak peek a new trendy Italian restaurant called MELENZANÈ. It’s a local creation by two young Kuwaitis who put a great deal of time and effort to create what has to be the most bizarre looking restaurant I’ve seen. The concept is based around mistakes and so you have chairs that are upside down or missing legs, tables on the ceiling, tables crawling up the walls, bottles hanging out of upside down drawers.. just a completely unusual and strange setup. Very cool and it caught me by surprise since when I had checked their website before visiting the place I got the impression it was a classic Italian restaurant. Instead, I got greeted by what an Italian restaurant would look like if it was based in Alice in Wonderland.

They’re still finalizing the dishes but from what I saw and tried, they have a wide range of things to choose from and the prices seemed very reasonable. They’re not open yet but they will next month once the new Bidaa extension opens up which by the way looks amazing. I wanted to take more pictures of the restaurant but the place was dim inside so I only managed to get a few decent ones which you can see below. You can check the MELENZANÈ website but it looks and sounds nothing like the actual place. The mood, colors and music are completely different. Seriously ignore everything especially the cheesy Italian music, when I was there they were playing very cool lounge music and that’s what they will be playing generally. Here is the [Link]

looks cooler than the usual shitty local creations. Will have to try their upside down toilet and see if I can pee that high to actually hit the bowl.

I really hope they have a great and authentic menu, not like the typical “copy and paste” menus in kuwait. Congrats on the restaurant

well to talk about melenzane all i could say that its very well done very creative i loved the concept very unique , the food is yummy so italian and the outfit its chic and i like the details it blends with the concept and the decoration of the restaurant.well done guys good job keep it up and all the luck for you both.

hi guys i love the interior of the resaurant and the food dama khafif . the thing that cought my eyes is the waiters outfit its superb and its suits the theme. i would like to know who is the designer . good luck.

nice experiance, what they did is amazed me, ask for the black book befor going out, and their location is al bedaA same parking of rasha sheek , near movinpic, but the problem is very taff to reach because of the fence area from the project but i have their operation manger #66699583,they open for dinner

WoW .. Simply WoW .. the style was amazing, I couldn’t describe it to you guys you have to visit it. I have been to many restaurants around the world and I believe MELENZANÈ is one of the best restaurants that I have ever seen in my entire life. Everything is upside down.

dear the spelling mistake of melenzane is a common mistake in sicily, thats why they call it melenzane not melanzane 🙂

I’m so happy and proud that you did it guys, I advice everybody to go, try, and ENCOURAGE our real Kuwaiti talents, rather than finding a spell mistakes:)
it’s just the beginning, KEEP paddelling .. ops! I mean keep paddling !!!
good luck Mohammed’s and wish you a great success Inshallah

wqent there 2 days ago, very very average and greasy, wont go there again unless there is a chef change, tried pasta’s only

ali: it’s not greasy, this is the way Kuwaitis like it. It’s more like Kuwaiti-Italian. Authentic italian doesn’t work here, It’s too light and people don’t know it anyways.

This is the type of menu we should be begging for. Its a fast food italian food chain in roma.
Simple and quick. If kuwaitis prefer greasy food, educate them on how to eat healthy and begin with melEnzane. If you wanna be different in kuwait, then serve authentic italian food.

Great food.

We put “Accent egus” , on french language . It is not in italian language (melenzaneÉ) . So its logo name

Went there with my husband one Friday afternoon, It was not open .. but guess what !! we entered, were welcomed and served the best shrimp pasta with pink sauce I have ever tasted.

Mohammed Al Dubeib the owner was there with his crew huddling over some operations. In his way out he took us through the concept of the place and food.

Try the Bread Crumbs Stuffed Mushrooms, The steak and the Shrimp with pink pasta .. boy O boy it was good.
Even if you don’t need to, go upstairs, pay a curious visit to the bathroom, Its actually made of a huge container that they brought from Italy. In the container they wrote what kind of stuff originally was inside it! Tomatoes, eggplants and some other stuff.

I love places that has interesting stories.

Good job Mohd…
