Sport City – Kuwait

First time I hear of this project and I’m curious to know if it will ever get executed. The idea behind Sport City is to create world class Olympic level sporting facilities in Kuwait:

The concept consists of a plan in the shape of infinity, around the existing Jaber Stadium and a new man-made lake on which will float three Olympic sized stadia. Contained within the main superstructure are another Olympic stadium, a five star hotel and a shopping centre. The tower, working within the long tradition of Kuwaiti tower-based architectural icons, contains a seven star hotel as well as luxury apartments, VIP suites for the stadium, and a Michelin star restaurant with extraordinary views. It could be done, but it won’t because the cost would be far too high and it wouldn’t see any returns in investment anytime soon.

Why is everyone being so negative? I have a feeling that this project will be executed; however, it might take a very long time to do so..

Idk what’s with the negative vibes. But it’ll be a good thing for the country if it happens. It might take a long while but it’ll be worth it. Besides, Kuwait has a lot of money anyway. If they could give money to each of their citizens. Then why can’t they build this? Nothing’s impossible in this ever growing world *u*

New to what? Kuwait? Well no. I lived in Kuwait since I was a year old. I just recently left. There’s nothing wrong with having aspirations. Despite them seeming to be unideal or unrealistic to some people. And there’s certainly nothing wrong with wanting the country to develop more. We all know Kuwait has a lot of money. All they need to do is turn their words into actions.

Ahem.. Shitass internet… *cough* *cough* needs more investment…

Govt cant do a simple thing like improving the telecommunication infrastructure.. So forget abt having the pie in the sky dream project shown above which will sadly remain as just another fantasy in this wonderful land..

And ya.. They need to turn their word into action.. u see the problem now?? 😀

Your last statement makes no sense. “You see the problem now?” Is an erroneous remark since you merely quoted my statement.

All I’m saying is that yes they have a lot of money. And yes they (the government) should put the money into good use (e.g. education, health) but they aren’t. For what reasons, I can only assume.

But despite this, there’s nothing wrong with thinking that it is possible. What was Kuwait like 20 years ago? I’ll admit, not much has changed. They seem to focus more on investments (e.g. restaurants, malls, clothing lines) but not to the fundamentals that will stabilise a country or rather make a country truly great. But if they want to build a “sky dream project” then let them do it. Would you rather see Kuwait rise or fail? Exactly. So there’s no point acting all disappointed. If you want to make a difference, or if you want to see change. Then why don’t you be the change you want to see in the world?

Yaaaaaaaaa…..Suurreee…

You urself admit to the failings of the government with your statement about the lack of work being done on the “fundamentals”…

Making this stadium is tantamount to buying a ferrari for yourself when living in a shitty dump.. Just makes no sense at all.. There are way bigger issues that need to be tackled before somethin of this magnitude can even be considered…

And the way u talk I am assuming that you think there is a pretty good chance this can happen if they want to make it happen.. I am just more realistic and give this project a 2% chance of succeeding 😛

I really want Kuwait to become the place I want it to be.. Been here all my life and love this land like my own.. Doesn’t mean I am givin in to the fantasies anytime soon 🙂

this will take a very long time to build, there were so many projects they said they will build, but they didnt do it, for example,

The trains
The tallest tower in kuwait
The new busniess city
and this

so many things.

it will never, happened, listen Kuwait has money, it is capable of doing it, but the problem is lack of managment, and as well Parliment fights. it wont happen.

lets start with organizing the roads, fixing them.. wait ok maybe thats to difficult, then how about starting with the schools, too difficult? then how about we make sure the Kuwaiti citizens are at least bilingual? noo too hard, and unnecessary because everything will magically work out and food and money will fall from the sky and we wont remain an illiterate group right? clean up Ministires? noo, ok then is it too much to ask to ENSURE and MAKE IT ILLEGAL to treat other people, regardless of race, sex, or job or religion with respect??? there aint nuthin gonna be built thats gonna last if they don’t fix the fundamentals of the sinking ship.

Have you seen the roads in America? The schools have a high graduation rate, again most “First world countries” like hmmm Amurka and parts of Europe only speak English or their native language and why do you want to make it illegal to treat people with respect lol?

Why are we talking about America? I thought the subject was Kuwait! FYI. Kuwait is richer than America so it should be way ahead! The infrastructure should be far more superior than it is at present state!

Here comes a typical Kuwaiti comment:

هاهااااي حلوة ،..بالأحلام ينجزونه و يمكن عيال عيالي بيشوفون المشروع ،، خا يصلحون الشارع جدام بيتنا اول

اي شارع بالوعة صارلها 6 اشهر ما عارفين يركبونها جدام بيتنا قال شارع هع هع

they probably haven’t even done a dang thing about the Silk City Project! They think planting over a 1000 trees near shuaiba port will get them on the positive side of their pollution problem! I even just googledSilk City Kuwait and the last thing said about it on the internet was in 2008.

the are not able use the use the current Stadium which is an Abandon NEW Stadium !
this project is far far away.
Even if they Build It should be built after 30-50 years.
First They need to attract tourist then Organization will Keep Kuwait Priority in Sports Event.
WE Dont have Good Water parks, Amusement parks, No Good place to visit. No Proper Picnic Spot.
There Is like Nothin to attract tourist.

kuwait is a residential country, with fat people living in big houses. THATS IT….Sport city is so far from reality that our kids wont even THINK of seeing it.

Negative vibes come from years of disappointment. Bayan park in block 4 was originally supposed to be completed in 15 months but it took them 15 years to do it. The only major construction project run by the government that finished relatively close to the originally projected deadline was the underpass at the Salmiya end of the gulf road and that was stopped for ages due to all the corruption at the higher levels.

yeah…..im sure this is going to be built right next to the new Silk City which has the tallest building in the world + a synagogue and a church.

Oh look, did you see that pig fly by? 😉

don’t forget those proposed crazy looking hotels they were planning on building here…. One of them was going to be like a cobra head shaped building… another 2 cylindrical shaped buildings wrapping around eachother… all these things are dreams on paper nothing else!

what aches me is that every one admits it’s impossible, though it is possible considering the potential of this country

*yawning desperately*

it needs a discipline that comes from within;

one honest question, i need to clear from mind; would appreciate if have a vote:

would people prefer to have such cities/landmarks in their country ?

or cash funds in their accounts ?

Meshx, it is possible in kuwait to have both, beautiful landmarks and cash funds…. just the people in kuwait need to change… look at the state of our hospitals (public) here… it’s in shambles … and the negative vibes everyone is expressing here is because we are all really disappointed that kuwait has the money and potential, but no one to act on it…. i myself have lived all my life here… so i know what i am talking about…

lord knows we need this!
We’ve been having trouble finding an olympic pool that allows entry to women for training..especially during Ramadan season.

I want this place to be done by tomorrow.. just enough time to train for my triathlon!

…… waitt…. is it april 1st already..?! mark, stop jokin around.. lol :p

P.S – This project aint gonna happen in my lifetime.. n im only 25.. :p

wait…next they will be saying they are gonna build a space station and start launching astronauts into space…. this probably happened because an enthusiastic new employee joined somewhere in the govt, they gave him something to do. You know why it will never happen, cus the design doesn’t include a mall…lool

I think we really, really need a “MOTORSport City in Kuwait”. A place where road racing & road rage can vent and get converted to Motorsports Talent.

Motorsports needs to be promoted. There are issues around like very high rate of road accidents.

Things like a a star studded Sport City plans should come second to such issues.

“The idea behind Sport City is to create world class Olympic level sporting facilities in Kuwait”

Try producing some world class Olympic level athletes firs.

without even reading this i know for a fact that this project will never go through, if it was a (food city) or a (mall city) that would b in the works faster than u can say blue-print xD

– The new Kuwait University City project on the 6th ring road is approved and currently under construction. It’s a big project including shaded car parks for thousands of vehicle and on-campus dorms.

– The 1st ring road is now under construction, day and night, after being put on hold and is advancing quite quickly.

– The Jahra road and bridge development project, a 21km motorway, 7km of elevated motorway and a 1 km tunnel consisting of 8 lanes is also progressing pretty fast.

– The Ministry of Education project in South Surra is also under construction, and is now 11% complete and scheduled for full completion mid 2014.

– The huge Jaber Al-Ahmed Hospital is now 17% complete and is suppsoed to be one of the biggest and most advanced in the world.

– The Sabah Al-Ahmed Marine City, a huge project with a lot of technological innovations implemented into the design and construction is now in it’s 3rd phase and progressing very nicely.

Stop being a bunch of pessimists and hope they approve this project.
