I’m not going to pay. Instead, I will swim because it’s public water, I will bicycle because it’s a public place and I will run because it’s an open space.

What Moe said. Theyre asking for money to train while you get your own bicycle, running shoes, and swimming equipments from your wallet, and they hold their event in a public place. For what am I giving them my money? what kind of service are they providing for me?

For those complaining about charges, all triathlon events take place in public places with participants bringing their own gear. You are free to do the same any time by yourself. In this particular case, you are paying a fee to take part in the event that needs to be organized, coordinated and winners will be given some prizes (I would assume).

Note: I am not associated with 3club in any way. Just saw their ad posted in Sultan center and thought it was pretty cool, and then saw the event posted here.

Good luck to 3club and hope it is a success.

Hey Moe , i like your excuse because either your pay or not you can’t finish one leg of the race.

Cajie , you are right all triathlon events take place in public places ! Thanks for the clarification.

Some of you people on here are retarded for complaining about having to pay! Do you expect everythingfor free? The price is a little high for a first time event though and it is a short course. I have done several triathlons back when I was in high school and the most I had to pay was $25: 500m swim/20km bike/5km run. I think NBK sponsors a couple triathletes to compete in the Iron Man series in Europe. JUST THINK OF SOMEONE WERE TO JUST JOIN THE RACE AT THE BEGINNING AND FINISH IN THE TOP TIER, THEY WOULDN’T BE RECOGNIZED BECAUSE HE WOULD BE SEEN AS A CHEATER SINCE HE DIDN’T HVE A RACE NUMBER ON! Just pay the KD25($100) and stop being a cheap ass!

Longhorn , i checked with the guys , the price including a full day experience + finisher t-shirt, medal , certificate as well using the hotel facility . what is amazing they are using for the first time in KUWAIT the latest race technology of sports timing which is a chip worn around the ankle and as participants move from disciplines their timing is recorded through sensors.

Ah, well see that explains the high fees! That’s cool! I wish everyone luck who participates in this event! You would think the bike to be easy but it isn’t! They are really lucky there are no hills here in Kuwait!

What does ‘official’ mean? Is it sanctioned by the International Triathlon Union? Of course it isn’t – ‘official’ is simply in the title to impress us. It’s not the ‘first’ triathlon in Kuwait either. That was held YEARS ago and Ghada Hussein competed (which makes her the first Kuwaiti woman triathlete – NOT Raba’a Alhajri as she has claimed). And please don’t think that by competing in this you’ll have completed a full triathlon. International triathlon distances are 1.5km swim / 40km bike / 10km run. Most of us should be able to complete The 3 Club ‘triathlon’ without even training – however ANYONE who isn’t used to regular exercise should consult their doctor before attempting. BUT if you do enter, you MUST expect to pay – the guys at The 3 Club take themselves very seriously and they ARE trying to make this a well organised event. However, the KD25 won’t give you an ‘all day’ experience unless you’re EXTREMELY slow, or end up on a ventilator. At the end of the day The 3 Club should be more honest about what it is they are doing here, and also why they are doing it.

Kuwait Snob , i totally agree with you , official means the distances approved by the ITU. just for your information there are 4 official distances the sprint , olympic, Ironman 70.3 and the full ironman.

Ghada hussain is part of the 3 club as well the organizing committee along with rabaa alhajri.

why its a sprint distance not olympic , simply because they just want to encourage everyone to take part of that race , basically combined three sports at the same time is quite tough even if you are fit.

by the way the registration is limited to 50 participant , and i think they already filled up. so no need to be bothered. thanks

I cannot understand how people in Kuwait thinks !! lets them do whatever they want , I think its so cool to have such event in KUWAIT. Not necessarily everyone likes what others do but at least don’t criticize their work!

Kuwait Snob, 7abibi relax
Wallah 3umrna ma sma3na eb triathalon in kuwait..was it in the 1960’s? wla 1970’s? Ok wala tz3al eshryk itha ktebaw the first in the 21 century? would that work for you?
oo ya shagool, eshway 3a6hom some recognition ilnas et3ebaw 3ala the whole thing. bedal latgol ya7lelhom lekwaitiyen they have some interests other than FOOD oo MALLS oo GAZ. oo bedal la tg3ad etta3eb nfsik 3ala NON constructive criticism, u might as well just Shut up 🙂

I just had a quick look at ur blog, Your attitude towards life……..
jad Allah y3eenik 3ala nafsik 🙂

It is only through constructive criticism that we all improve. Mediocrity is the only measure used in Kuwait today. Why should everything be applauded unquestioningly? Isn’t it better that we strive for the very best? We deserve it.

Simon no need to be rude.. we know its you.. man you never change even on an anonymous blog you’re known only you can pull that off, May god help you you’re truly a piece of work.. =)

This is so exciting! and its just fantastic that we’re having this very cool event here at home in our country! makes me very proud 🙂 Lets hope we have more people like 3 club who take their passion to the next level and incorporate it into life here in kuwait.. otherwise 7ayatna ihnee is really just food, sleep, and like F says, sadly gazz.. boring..

Sport is harming more then cigarette, drugs or any kind of passive hobby when you don’t have the right equipment, team, etc…
The only professional I meet and he doesn’t needed the specific equipment is the chess world champion PETER LEKO, he can win anybody without a chessboard!!!
But to be honest the waiting list for a round with him is one year long!!!!and very selective!!!

My hometown back in Texas hosts one of the major stops in the U.S. series, The Wool Capitol Triathlon! My old high school swim coach competes is in a relay every year! they win their age division just about everytime too!

I have participated in sprint triathlons in Kuwait back in 1999, 2000 and 2001. They were all organized from the messelah beach hotel. Participants were mainly from the US army with only few Kuwaitis. I was the only kuwaiti female. I have been training for the past 10 years but never had the willpower to participate in events outside the Gulf region. But that was until recently when i was introduced to Ahmed Al Majed who, along with Rab3a al Hajri, is the founder of the 3 club and organizer of the flying start triathlon. Ahmed is a great triathlete and i can’t thank him enough for his continuous help, support and genuine encouragement. However I might not be the right person to compliment Ahmed or praise the 3 club for what they have done to promote the traithlon sport in Kuwait. Just talk to the 12 young men and women, mostly Kuwaitis, who have joined the 3 club and have been showing up every morning at 5 am and every evening at 6:30pm for their swims, runs or cycling sessions. Just ask them what keeps them going, why have they been doing it, day in day out, for the last 3 months
The flying start triathlon is an appreciation to the hard work and commitment these young athletes have put into their training as well as give them a taste of the real pleasure of racing in a triathlon event, even if it was of a sprint distance. An addictive pleasure that will make them train harder for a more challenging events. At the end i can only say elli ma y6ool el 3inab eygool 3ana 7ameth

Please.. You are living in a dream world. Not 1 person from Kuwait is a REAL athlete. To be that you must be recognized professionally on a world stage and compete with the best.

When he comes, kneel to him for overcoming the weak and undiciplined values of our society; that could not even fathom the hardship of reaching self made success.

Dear Joe,
With all due respect what gives you the right to make such statement. There are lots of real athletes in Kuwait. They don’t have to be recognized by some organization to be qualified as real athletes.

Hello Joe, what is the exact definition for an athlete ! we competed with the best athletes around the world!
Normal Stadler
Chris maccormac
Graig Alexander
Chrissie welengton
Tim done
Faris Alsultan
Eko lianos
Chris Lieto

just for your information Zed Alrefai who is the first Arab who climbed mount Everest and ranked 46 in history who climbed the 7 summits.

i cant wait to participate in the event, and look forward to taking part in others in europe / asia.

i’m grateful to the tri club for making me so enthusiastic about this sport and giving me the opportunity to train with such a fun, inspiring group of people.

we need more establishments encouraging all kinds of sports in kuwait, especially for women, and any step in that direction is a great step forward.

When and where is this event being held. I’ve done a few Triathlons, including an IronMan and would love to come along and watch / support. I am a little shocked at the negativity here commenting on this event. If you don’t fancy doing it then fine, just let others get on with it.

FYI, triathlon can be an expensive sport both to stage and to participate in. If 3 Club have doen this properly and have the right safety measures in place then maybe 25 kD is not unreasonable.

Good luck to all the participants.

Oh, and by the way, trialthlons come in many different distances. If you swim, bike and run, it is STILL a trialthlon.
