This weeks traffic details… welcome to hell

Got this from the MOI website (fixed some spelling mistakes but too lazy to fix the grammar). Looks like its going to be one crappy week:

In preparation for the GCC summit some roads will be closed starting from Monday 14/12/2009 from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM

1. King Faisal motorway will be closed from the Airport to Fifth Ring Road.
2. King Faisal main motorway the side coming from Kuwait city after Yarmok area towards the Airport will be closed and diverted to Fifth Ring Road as an alternative road for both sides to Jahra and Salmiya.
3. King Fahad main motorway coming from the city will be closed and diverted to Fifth Ring Road both toward Jahra and Salmiya.
4. King Fahad main motorway coming from Fahaheel will be closed and diverted to Six Ring Road of both sides left side to Jahra and right side to Salmiya.
5. Side road of the Fifth Ring Road going to King Fahad motorway which coming from Salmiya towards Ahmadi will be closed only but towards city is permitted.
6. King Khaled bin Abdulaziz with all intersections will be completely closed starts from Khaitan Club bridge to Mishref bridge of King Fahad motorway.
7. Sabhan road, from Seventh Ring Road to Sabah Airport road will be completely closed for both sides.

For all who want to go to Kuwait International Airport, they either to take airport road towards Six Ring Road on the right side to cargo station or through Ghazali motorway to cargo station then to the airport.

And for all who want to go to Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Airport terminal have to go towards Sabhan Qurain bridge road and King Fahad motorway and take road (208) the military show road.

Alternative roads
All road users in case of close of all previously mentioned closed roads can use the following routs:
– All seven ring roads (First Ring Road-Second Ring Road-Third Ring Road-Fourth Ring Road-Fifth Ring Road-Sixth Ring Road-Seventh Ring Road) of both sides are open towards Jahra and Salmiya.
– Ghazali motorway.
– King Abdulaziz (Fahaheel motorway) both sides.
– Airport road, Farwaniya side.

The Traffic General Department is calling upon road users to cooperate with policemen and follow the issued instructions for the success of the summit events.

That looks like the salmiya signal that drives past the jail/towards the city centre roundabout isnt it?

At least there is a cause this time for the bad traffic, which is good. People can prepare well.

Earlier this year, the 40 was closed for an hour or so when a refrigerator flipped off a truck. Obviously, nobody seen the mess a refrigerator causes while falling off at 120-140kmph. Everyone slowed down to have a glimpse and took a while to clear the road.

someone donate them couple of helicopters and save us from this mess… by the way.. they will start from the 14 till when?

It is Monday and Tuesday! Thaats only two days!

@ 3azeez – I wish they could use their helicopters but it is small and cannot carry alot of people even if they use a couple of them.

Mark, I have a question… could u do me a favor and post it on your front page, of course not all of it just the point of it!

I’m a Kuwaiti researcher, currently at a UK research center located at a UK University. I’ll be coming back home this Christmas and will be spending this time writing up some papers.

Now, I will have to meet with colleagues from Environmental Public Authority off working hours and other Universities in the UK who happened to be also in Kuwait during Christmas to get some data from them and complete our research.

The question is… Where can we get together to do our work?! Kuwait University Library which is the natural place comes to mind is applying segregation… Which means we cant go there and sit together to do our work cuz some of my colleagues are girls. What other option is there?

Isn’t there a single decent place where people can get together and work?!

after reading the roads’ names, i thought that i am living in KSA
too much ..
those are important roads in kuwait and i name them after foreign kings!!
mita nita3alam !

“For all who want to go to Kuwait International Airport, they either to take airport road towards”

“For all who want to go to Kuwait International Airport, they have to take the airport road towards” sounds better since the are no other roads to the airport.

I actually think King Fahad / King Faisal / King Abdulaziz far less confusing that Sheikh Ali Al Jaber Al Ahmad or Sheikh Jaber Al Ali Al Mubarak or Sheikh Mubarak Al Ali Al Ahmad Al Fahad Al Al

I like the names !

hi 3azeez,

seriously i was wondering lately y those people dont use helicopters??

can some1 put some light , y they dont use helicopters!!is it protocol that they shud travel by road!!!!!!!!

The Names of the Saudi Kings were given to major highways in apreciation for Saudi’s efforts in liberating Kuwait & technically all three main hwys lead to the Kingdom !! King Saoud’s name & official photo lineup of the ruling kings ,for whatever reason , was droped by the Royal family in saudi Arabia. That is why Kuwait passed him over.

Helicopters are very high security risk plus it is not only the security of the leaders , but also the whole delegation consisting of ministers, advisors, assistants, doctors etc

My advise to avoid congestion ,,,,, use a motorcycle. That is what I am ridding next few day.

they should meet somewhere in the desert and save us all the troubles….
as for the names of the streets: Seems like we don’t any people to honor except for foreign (Saudi) leaders or Kuwaiti ruling family leaders…..forget all those who have shed blood for this country….

JoJo: “Saudi’s efforts in liberating Kuwait “…..they kept silent for 3 full days after the invasion…then acted only when the allied forces arrived….anyways, this talk of favours is pointless; Kuwait helped their founding father (abdulaziz) provided him shelter and help (british help that is)…better name all the streets after the allied forces’ leaders of the time then…….because it was not only KSA that helped..

The traffic to and from work is actually better than usual because a lot of people decided to take days off to avoid this clusterfuck so it worked out well for a change 😀 and LMAO on KSA helping kuwait more like helping their own people who own 90% of kuwait.

“- All seven ring roads (First Ring Road-Second Ring Road-Third Ring Road-Fourth Ring Road-Fifth Ring Road-Sixth Ring Road-Seventh Ring Road) of both sides are open towards Jahra and Salmiya.”

They CLOSED 7th Ring Road today. In typical Kuwait style – create a rule, then immediately change it.

anumen, I heard once that they ‘enjoy’ blocking the streets and driving around in motorcades to make them feel that they are ‘better’ and we are ‘lower’ than them. But I dont know if this is their true way of thinking… but honestly? I can’t think of any other reason… I mean.. if its money, they can afford buying a helicopter factory not just a helicopter.. if its about saftey, Clinton was flying around with Marine One when he came to Kuwait few years ago. If its about conveinence, we know that the Mishrif Palace has helipad, and I’m sure.. Alkhrafi company can build a new one in a very short time if new ones are needed… There is really no excuse for not using helicopters.

Why can’t some good brains put a road number in brackets at least?
I do remember the road numbers, but certainly not the names.
Is there an English map of the diversions?
Sucks!

I am really angry right now because they said the roads will be blocked from 11:30 am till 1:30 pm. I went to GUST at around 3 pm and the roads were still blocked. It took them another hour till they decided to open the roads. If they set a time frame of 11:30 – 1:30 they should follow the timing! I mean i didn’t know and it sucks looking for a way through their stupidly devised barracades. I think they shouldn’t use cars, helicopters or anything normal for that matter. They can afford to build a speed train; build it from the residency area to Bayan Palace and save us all the pain. I am sure there are more meeting like this one to come.

@ Orange! Kuwait doesn’t need more highways or ring roads. They just need to improve the work timings so that everyone doesn’t go to work at the same time. I would also think that increasing the speed limits and removing the fast, crazy drivers and the slow, stupid drivers of the road would be a good solution.

Yeah I really enjoyed how some of the schools (to include my children’s school) did early release on these days.. Drop them off @ 7:30 and pick them up @ 11:00. A whole 3 1/2 hours of school, whoopie!

It really did save me on the traffic but headaches I guess just cannot be averted sometimes..
