Whats in her hijab?

A while back I noticed some girls were wearing their hijab in a way that makes them look like coneheads. A friend told me it was a new trend and that the way the girls got their “conehead look” was by using cans of Pringles and toilet paper rolls.

Today while browsing I found this funny post on Erzulie’s blog where she drew a girl in hijab and lets us guess whats under it. I guessed option (D). [Link]

It’s Alien Visits Kuwait. My wife said some put ‘goo6i rob’ (those kdd yoghurt plastic things). They think they look hot when in reality they look like shit.

That’s pretty ridiculous. You’d think it’s enough trouble trying to tiptoe in highheals, now they have to do it while balancing a freakin cup on their heads.

This trend is almost over , it peaked during Dec06 till April07…. ..Now its the trend of clevages … watch in marina [ specially wednesday’s… there’s hell of a clevage show]

They are the fluffy bright colored hair accessory things that you see at all the cheap malls. They look like feathery pom-poms. It is the hijab equivalent of “junk in da trunk”. Kuwait has a “uNIQUE” sense of fasion.

Why surprised? Women wore beehive wigs in the 18th century and in the 60s of the 20s century. Trends come and go and nothing is completely novel.

Financy don’t get religion involved in this. I am not making fun out of the hijab in this post so don’t get your panties in a bunch.

goo6i il roob + goo6i il ne’7i are confermed, and I’m not sure hot the alien head is supposed to make them look hot. the normal hijab looks just fine to me

Financy arn’t you the perfect hypocrite? It’s okay for you to make fun of the 7ijab, but if someone who doesn’t happen to be Muslim does, it’s not alright? Stupid fuck.

From erzulie’s blog.

KaaaaK ,

maybe there is a small baby inside ..”

Mark , girls wear hijab for religion purposes .. thats all .. so ofcourse religion is involved

if we muslims critisize their Hijab style , then its something among us to critisize and make fun of each other ,

and I wouldnt appreciate a non muslim making fun of it or critisizing the hijab style

if ur not making fun of it or critizing it , then I dont know whats the purpose of ur post

Financy, you do have a point. I am a christian too, and people shouldnt make fun of religions that they arent a part of.

Let me start by saying I am a Muslim.

Financy, its not true that girls wear Hijab for religious purposes ONLY. Yes, of course, the context is for religion. However, the reality is more to do with parental pressures, peer pressures, following current fashion trends, or simply following what their friends are doing.

Don’t make this into a religious discussion, which it is not. This post talks about the way the Hijab is worn like this. This is ALL to do with fashion and trends, nothing to do with Shari3ah. If these girls wanted to follow the Shari3ah properly, they would dress modestly (i.e in a way not to attract attention). Quite the opposite, this Hijab DOES attract attention!

Someone told me once, that girls who wear the hijab in the “conehead” style its to signify that they are single. I don’t know if this source is reliable or not. Just something I heard through the grapevine.

I’m taking a wild guess here, but I think that due to the mana’7 of our country, kuwaiti girls have evovled and adapted to the extreme weather by growing a hump on their heads that contains a reservoir of fatty tissue. This enables them to withstand long periods without food nor water, giving them the ability to go on long excursions of ‘gezz’ in malls and streets. Similar to camels

Financy I am NOT making fun out of the hijab. I am making fun out of the girls who are sticking cans of Pringles under their hijab because they think it makes them hot!

So again one more time, don’t get religion involved in this.
Also, anyone else here who did insult the hijab (aka Holla) your comments have been deleted.

Financy – Sorry, but I don’t subscribe to the whole idea that only Muslims can talk about hijab or other “Islamic” issues. The post was about fashion, not about religion. If a Muslim were to make fun of a Catholic fashion trend – who am I to say that only Catholics can make fun of other Catholics? Chill out.

Why is it that every other post here gets hammered to death in the comment section?

“Iโ€™m taking a wild guess here, but I think that due to the manaโ€™7 of our country, kuwaiti girls have evovled and adapted to the extreme weather by growing a hump on their heads that contains a reservoir of fatty tissue. i agree with Bu50 ๐Ÿ˜€

This could be a great way to sneak snacks to the movie theatre hehee. No seriously I know people who wear the hijab this way and they’re only doing it cuz it’s “in” right now.

Fist of all I donโ€™t wear hijap, but Iโ€™m a Kuwaiti.
I know that what those girls wearing make them look fashionably cheap.
On the other hand any societies would not like other group of people or organizations to criticize them, (outsider to pass judgment on them) same as a white person calling a black guy a niggar!!!!

And by the way Mark for a lot of us Kuwaiti…now..we view your blog as Anti-Kuwaiti

So you think my blog is Anti-Kuwaiti because I linked to a Kuwaiti girls post in which she made fun out of girls who like to look like coneheads? Come on grow up.

You did not need to link to her post, she is Kuwaiti right! Let her do the job, why you involving your self! Do you need too!!! Why?? Dont you have a better topic to post about!? Or a new shoe to buy!? Come on Mark, you always have a car to review or a company to nag about!!!!

Are you calling me sir! What letter in a girl!? You could not read !!!!!!!!!!!!! MARK You are disappointing me today

Personally, I find this blog interesting. I haven’t noticed anything anti-Kuwaiti about it.

As for this particular post, I don’t think the guy was making fun of the Hijab at all. He’s just pointing out a ridiculous fashion trend that has nothing to do with religion.

What the hell is wrong with you? Christian or not, he did not say dont wear 7ejab… Balla 3lekom hatha 7ejab? I think this christian you are accusing of insulting your 7ejab has a better concept of what 7ejab should look like, better than the husbands and fathers and brothers of thoes so called mo7ajabat out there who let their girls go out with low waist skin hugging jeans, tight blouses, full hairdos out of their 7ejabs and this nido thing!!! imagine yourself sitting behind one of those in a movie theater…

By the way,,, the whole point behind 7ejab is modesty… you wear it so you dont draw attention, mo wear it to be ready to attend a stark trek convintion… WAAAAAAAY

7abaybi…this kind of hejab is 7araaam…and so what if Mark made fun of this alien 7ijab??..im a met7ajba by choice and i think this kind of 7ejab is slutty and makes the 7ejab look like an insignificant trend.

girl: Whatever!

Monotheist: agree with you (nothing anti-kuwaiti)

Teary Eyed Q8y: Well said!

s-star: Agree with you

Moreover, this a blog, more specifically Mark’s blog. I think its up to him to put up posts about whatever he likes or dislikes. If anyone doesn’t like what they read, they have the right to comment….nothing more, nothing less.

Its amazing how sensitive some people can become if they even smell the slightest whiff of anything which be taken as anti-kuwaiti.

FYI ,in this particular post, nobody (not even Mark) is criticising anything to do with Kuwait!!! Let’s not start with Kuwaiti’s “GTFO” again….People, grow up, and balash 3o2add!

Why do some Muslims get crazy offended when a non muslim mentions anything remotely related to Islam but in the same breath take it upon themselves to speak about other cultures, religions, and beliefs?

you know….i disagree with mark on a lot of things and find him to be a witty smartass sometimes, but on this one he has all the right in the world to say whatever he wants to about the topic he chose. Just because it happens to be about a bunch of freaks who cant even wear their veil normally, and just cuz he happens to be christian the kuwaitis suddenly get stiff backs and use the whole ‘we can say what we want about kuwait but no one else can’ argument. Im sorry, but as long as we live here and pay our taxes (figure of speech!) we can say whatever we want as long as its constructive criticism OR is meant as light humour…

regarding taxes,we Do pay taxes indirectly, if you look at how much we spend on travel, booze, long distance tel calls and gifts for family that live abroad. And lets not even mention the fact that as non kuwaitis we cant buy houses or apartments like normal people anywhere else in the world, so get stuck paying high rent for crappy accomodation even if we are here for 20 years…

Marc, i suggest your next post be about the Besancon nuns who had the weirdest things on their heads .. maybe this trend is inspired from them ๐Ÿ˜›

I will try get you a picture heh ..

As for that weird looking hijab,
I saw it when i was there in Kuwait and didnt find it that ugly to be honest .. it looks quite nice on some heads ๐Ÿ˜€

guys .. hal 7jab 7araam oo el rasool metnabe2 feehom .. so i don’t blame him for making fun of it .. y3nii it’s embarassing oo it looks cheap .. what if da3amt el 6ofa oo goo6ii el rob 6a7 ;p oo he didn’t say anything wrong 3n el 7jab .. it’s different .. y3nii ana met7ajba bs if i saw wa7da labsa chethii i’ll definetly make fun of her ;p

interesting arguements……
i own a hijab shop in Adailiya in Kuwait. from avante guarde to crystalized and my own designs are on sale…its haute couture hijabs…milfa style..come check em out. and dont ask for discounts..coz its fixed price.
my shop is on the first floor above the supermarket….its a anabi colored shop and its written ” the HIJAB”…….if you find it your one of the lucky ones trust me…there is not one girl who leaves my shop with a dazzle.
im a Korean fashion designer changing trends in Kuwait ….. peace out.

tbh i think its just sad who ever made this even if its for fun or whatever, you need to get a life and stop worrying about how ppl wear their scarfs :/ look at yourself before you judge other ppl. don’t judge the book by its cover remember ๐Ÿ™‚

That hijab is very popular in my country…but i dont think that its ฤฐslamic..Anyway it’s not ฤฐslamic..Moslim women should leave it.
