While prepping for my previous post on Pinot, I was going through some old emails and found one where he sent me photos of the old Al-Manara Bookshop that was located in Salmiya next to The Video Club.
Al-Manara was a fairly popular bookstore but there aren’t any photos of it available online. It’s one of those places you never thought about photographing and eventually it’s gone. The photos were taken on March 28, 2008 with a Nikon Coolpix P1.

I used to buy WWF (WWE) magazines from there back in the day
That used to be my favorite place as a kid. Video game magazines, WWF magazines, Goosebumps books.
🥲🥲🥲
I miss this place SO much! It was where I got all my film magazines.
Fun fact: the owner was a Lebanese guy but his wife was Indian.
Really lovely family.
Hi I used to go there so many times during years 1994 to 1996 and went from 1998 to 2000. Do you remember what was the owner name? Or what happened to the store now?
I remember going there several times as a kid, the bookstore wasn’t very organized but a gold mine for booklovers, brings back wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing Mark!
Leave the Filipino mother & child alone Mark! lol
thats his wife and kid
I think it’s just because that we all believed that they’ll always be there just like all of those places that are gone. That’s why I started taking pictures of everything- every shop I visit, every place I like
Does anyone remember a Disney shop in Al-Fanar?
I do! And there was even one in Al-Muthana Complex,
