How to get Spotify and Netflix working in Kuwait

spotify

Spotify is my favorite digital music service and whenever I post about it on the blog people always ask me how I manage to get it working. Geek in Kuwait has put together easy step by step instructions to follow to get Spotify and Netflix working in Kuwait. So if you’re interested in getting those two services working, follow this [Link]

Note: I use StrongVPN to bypass blocked websites. Also with Spotify unlike Pandora, once you sign up you no longer need to use a VPN to use it.

I think Netflix has done this in the past with similar services so possibly. The block is from Netflix’s side, not Kuwait’s.

You still need to figure out how to get Netflix to accept your credit card and then you’re paying for a sub you can only access through workarounds so it might not be worth it in the end. I mean if you’re going to the effort to bypass everything might as well just torrent.

You should clarify here that you need to be a premium member in order to listen without a VPN; as a free member you can only listen with a US IP (VPN, Hola, etc.)

In this regard, Google Music is better as you don’t need a VPN to listen (even with the free subscription); and they don’t serve any ads.

You can also cache and store music on your device so you can still listen when you don’t have a reliable connection; plus having the ability to upload your songs online to be streamed to any device.

Spotify is nice (I have an account), but for many practical reasons I stick with Google Music.

That’s not true though. For a free Spotify account you need to sign in once every 14 days using a VPN but other than that you can listen to the music without a VPN. With a paid subscription like mine you would never have to use a VPN.

Google Music is nice, but for many practical reasons I stick with Spotify. It’s just a much more pleasant experience from the desktop application to the iPhone app. I stopped using iTunes and Pandora because of it.

heheheheh… mark, when I opened the Hola link and a message stating “access all internet websites” came up, one thought came to my mind. im gonna be a very busy man mwahaha!

Thanks dude!

Netflix worked a couple of times pn my chromecast, but its back to not working again. Stilll ooking for solutions.

Hi Mark;

One still needs a USA issued Credit Card to be able to become a member. Otherwise you can’t. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Actually, you can join Mexico Netflix without a US credit card or Mexican one (because they don’t check), then, when you’ve joined, via your normal credit card, switch your proxy from Mexico to US (or UK) and you have the entire US or UK selection (they are different BTW).

I certainly read about this method when I was setting up. As it is, I have a US bank account, so I didn’t need to go the Mexico route. You need to have a proxy server that can switch to Mexico, US and UK, like HMA, for example.

Of course, a UK bank account will do just as well as Netflix are now operational in the UK. Then switch to US proxy if you want the US selection. Typical differences includes NO Dexter on US Netflix but all seasons of Dexter on UK Netflix which is due to restrictive licensing of the show.

It puzzles me. So many of us are willing to subscribe yet Netflix and other streaming websites aren’t providing their services to us. My initial thought is that they make additional revenue with advertisement targeting specific areas? Contracts with studios?

Is it really that hard to tell whoever is in charge “Look, there is a region, if we give them access, we’ll have a potential revenue increase”.

I just don’t get it.

Someone should inform the studios that there are other regions with brown folks that have credit cards and stuff lol.

OSN has some streaming rights for the middle east. They have their own super limited crappy version of Netflix which is why we can’t get the good stuff. You also have to pay for an OSN sub to access it which is way more than the Netflix app costs.

It’s terribly implemented but whenever I try to get in touch with someone at OSN a bot replies to me or a salesperson calls asking if I’m trying to upgrade which defeats the point.

Another method is to setup SSH access in case you have a hosting server in the US. Netflix, Pandora, spotify all works and btw…. Netflix accepts Nbk Kuwait issued credit cards.

Android users, where’s a good place to get a safe Netflix app? The problem is that Google’s strict get blocking in play store won’t let you install the app.

I managed to get Netflix working on both laptop and Android tablet. I used a local credit card to register and it worked fine. However, I don’t think I ‘ll renew after the free trial ends. Netflix has mainly old stuff, so it’s a waste of time if want new movies. I use torrents to get the latest releases, even ones that aren’t released yet. Netflix is good for children though since it contains loads of cartoons & such. Too bad Hola is not available for the iPad.

If you don’t have spotify don’t bother with it Google Plays Music all access has the best inter-phase and also have some kind of music genius with recommendation!
