Contactless Payment Limit Increased Due to Coronavirus

Knet and the local banks have agreed to increase the transaction amount for contactless payments without having to use your pin code from KD10 to KD25. I’m a big fan of just tapping to pay, especially now with the whole corona situation so pretty glad they’ve done this.

This is a good measure, only if ALL POS systems were equipped! There are many many places that dont have tap-and-pay enabled machines yet.

I would be happier if shops followed the practice in Europe and let you hold your card when you tap, rather than taking it. This allows you to both check that the amount is correct and retain possession of your card.

It’s out of habit, most places let me tap some places the employees try and take the card because they don’t realize or know it’s tap. The more common it becomes the less they will want to take your card.

Staff have been taking the card and tapping it themselves.

This has happened in multiple major supermarkets in the past week. It’s partly my fault for being on autopilot and handing over my card, but you don’t know which stores are set up for tap and pay.

Having just come back from Europe, I realised how odd this is.

+1 to that. Staff here loves to handle cards, and I dont understand why. In Europe, they shy away from touching your card as if it comes infected from the bank itself.

On that note, why dont we have the separate PIN keypad machines here (like we have in Europe)?
