Kuwait Airways getting 25 new planes

(Reuters) – State-run Kuwait Airways will spend 850 million dinars ($2.98 billion) on 25 new Airbus jets and aims to lease a further 13 to upgrade its ageing fleet, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported on Sunday. [Source]

The planes will consist of 10 wide-bodied A350-900 jets and 15 of the slimmer A320neo. No A380’s so I guess the “Ya Kuwait Airways naby A380” campaign didn’t do so well.

Thanks Salem

But AB stated in an article that they are expected to recieve the planes in 2019. 2019??? They need them yesterday, but most people don’t believe anything the government says, so when the planes go down the runway, I guess then we can celebrate.

ALAFCO**

With Alafco there’s a good chance Parliament will stand in the way just like they previously have done.

Will never happen. It will get stopped, just before the bank transfer is about to be signed off.

The solution is that issues like this that involve immense national pride should not go through the Parliament, but through a Development Commitee that is separate from the Parliament. This Committe is controlled by the government. the Airport contract should go through this commitee also. If Kuwait does not start making decisions in favor of this nation, the reputation of this nation will continue to go downhill.

Parliament … we got one of those ?

Development committee … Yup to develop pockets …

National pride !!! yeah we had that back in the 1970s …

Pessimistic realist … yes I am …

I read somewhere that they will lease A330s and A320s for 6 years till the A350s and A320neos are ready. They are expected to get the leased planes this June.

I think its the best decision to renew their fleet. But they should also think about a new image for the airline. Since they want to get new planes, they should also change the in-flight service, livery, etc.

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that it doesn’t matter what they buy, I still won’t fly them.

Kuwait Airways is run by the investment arm of govt. – Kuwait Investment Authority. Any decisions they make will be solely their own and will not have to go through the parliament.

As far as I know, there are special requirements for Airports to receive A380s (like two tubes or whatever they’re called) and Kuwait’s Airport is not prepared for such a plane.

The runway is big enough (in fact, Emirates flew their A380 here last year as part of National Day celebrations); and you can use the standard jetways (the tubes) on the A380; but only for the lower decks.

To efficiently load the plane, you need two jetways; one for the upper deck as well as the lower one; in addition, the service vehicles need enough clearance to be able to reach the top of the plane.

The runways and infrastructure at Kuwait airport can handle the A380 and one of the gates has been modified to be able to serve both decks.

NO !!!
the service vehicles at the airport aren’t capable to serve A380 efficiently…one of those are KASCO high loaders…the can’t reach upto the upper deck of the A380 aircraft…last year the loaded the upper deck by using a jetway…

I never mentioned anything about service vehicles, they dont need them until an actual A380 service to kuwait is started. However the infustructure and one of the gates at the airport Can handle and A380 🙂

Hmm…atleast now I know who stole my Pocket money…!!!

I do hope they upgrade not just their Aging fleet, but also their Aging Crew…Ventilator anyone…???
Also teach these Cavemen to SMILE…its pretty easy..!!
Its not called the ‘Hospitality’ industry for nothing…!!!

They should really start serving booze in their flights, at least to just makeup for the bullshit service, rundown planes, dangerous flight. That’s the least they could do.

LOL…I really like Ur excuse…but that’s a whole new topic…dont U think.

How about a new marketing campaign

“Are U flying Kuwait Airways?

Keep Ur Spirts Up…by pouring Spirts down…!!!”

Majority of the big players (Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways) buy out slots. They do not necessarily need the aircraft but sort of create a waiting system. This causes demand among smaller airlines, so to fill this demand the big players lease their older aircraft (like renting a car)to the airlines. Not all revenue is passenger revenue, they setup third party companies to gain passenger revenue by leasing their aircraft. Therefore, 2019 will see Kuwait Airways get its first and maybe second aircraft, subsequently in 2020 the third and fourth delivered. so probably all 25 aircraft to be delivered will take between 7-10 years (2029). Emirates is very well known to play the system and buyout all the slots available. They have been using this strategy for years.

Turns out this deal has been approved by the government. Since they don’t need parliament’s approval anymore, this deal is a go.

On top of buying 25 new planes, they will have options for 10 more. And they intend to rent 22 planes for eight years. They are also going to use 6 of the existing planes which means that we can expect new destinations for Kuwait Airways.

Woah! Kuwait Airways staff smiling! The current air hostesses have a solid, immovable crust of makeup and “fuck you too” slathereed on their face, so it is out of the question now. 🙁
New planes alone don’t matter. Staff training does too. On a London-Dubai Emirates flight, I saw the crew make a real effort, and they took turns sitting next to an elderly gent who needed help with oxygen cylinders to breathe. They did this for the whole flight. Top notch professionalism.

@ del

Yeah…All that Attitude + 10 layers of Make-up…combined with regular doses of BOTOX…!!!

Priceless…!!!

Has anyone flown Kuwait airways recently? their service has improved tremendously although the hard product is still very dated so the new planes will go a long way for KU
