So the news of Kuwait banning gays from entering Kuwait by “detecting” them has been picked up by news sites all over the world including the Taiwanese company that create the hilarious news animations. They made one on this subject and it cracked me up. Check it out here.
Jimmy Fallon also mentioned Kuwait in his opening act which you can watch below starting at 4:36.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

“Not to be confused with that other way to prevent people from entering Kuwait… is a sign that says welcome to Kuwait”
K.O. !!
Anyway, I’m used to hearing this kind of ‘jokes’ from Americans specifically at Kuwait airport whether on the plane on at customs check. All kind of ‘jokes’ about Kuwait and how bad it is. Now we don’t get to hear much of that as they appear to pass without having to get their passports stamped…
Because getting through US customs is a breeze.
I only ever hear people from the shittiest parts of the US joke about it which is funny.
How embarrassing!
Mark,
Shame on you to put videos like the first one. Not only is this inappropriate, but embarassing too!
Because of the topics you have been posting recently, I may quit visiting this blog for good.
The first video was really disruptive and OFFENSIVE to me….. I really feel disgusted now……
Good riddance to you…
If it’s offensive, then be different. Change the stigma and stereotype.
Have you ever seen how Arabs are depicted in movies? It’s pretty true, men are sexist and have high priced prostitutes.
In Dubai at the Atlantis, I saw an Arab in dish dasha get out or a Benz with 7 of the hottest prostitutes I have ever seen. He had a ho from each continent of the world.
because that only happens in arab countries right? these things happen everywhere in the world it’s where you focus your hate on that you notice these things.
There’s a lot for western society to focus on. I don’t know what more tolerable, eastern Europe or the middle east……..
um not really. people do not fly to other countries to be seen with 7 hot prostitutes in their flash cars. there’s pretty much here and maybe a few other places~
That is just messed up X[
How does the gay detector work.
they show the suspect a lesbian movie, if he gets hard down there then he’s not
otherwise he’s gay lol
anyway I think people who laugh at Kuwait’s stupid laws shouldn’t spend their time in Kuwait
such as a certain person in mind who’s been living in Kuwait without a valid visa just writing funny stuff about Kuwait and his name start with an M and ends with a K and I think he should be kicked out of the country.. just an opinion though
1) This isn’t even a law
2) I’m Kuwaiti and it’s stupid
Hahahahaha…. I am laughing at Kuwait’s laws and I am spending my time in Kuwait.Deal with it!!!BTW You shouldn’t be reading the blog…Just an opinion though.
+10000000000000
+1
Im born and brought up here… whether its my country or not does not mean i agree with the laws blindly jus cuz they are put out there. Those who cant take a joke / spoof or be liberal minded should ‘seriously’ lighten up! You dont need a valid visa to own a blog and post on it FYI. Jus an opinion yea…
doesn’t mean you should be able to change them either
I’m alarmed and outraged at how Americans seem to pick up news that could be suggested by just one person or a small minority of the population that won’t probably even get passed. I’ve noticed it time and time again that whenever the western media (especially American media) gets a chance to mock and ridicule Arab or Asian countries they start with full force. But how dare if another country tells them what to do…. their first response is “take care of your own problems” or far worse and racist. Kuwait has several very very intelligent doctors who are Kuwaitis who will not allow this to go ahead.
If the western media wants to raise an issue, I’ve got one….people who have lived in Kuwait and contributed to Kuwait’s development and quality of service should be given permanent residency, if not citizenship. This is a worthy discussion that could increase understanding. But “civilized and progressive” countries enjoy the easy money and knee jerk reaction that their media creates when they spread this type of news like the plague. Every damn tabloid, news paper and “daily” is reporting this news. Such a shame.
Well said
Distraction from issues at home.
Lighten up Danny, it’s a comedy show not CNN or Al Jazeeeera.
good one
Ummm – are you guys missing the ridiculousness of the Chinese video?
Cray.
I’m a kuwaiti and I approve the humor in both videos LOL !
FINALLY. hats off to you mate!
+1 for you sir.
except when you read the comments in the first video on Youtube it’s actually being serious.
yes making a serious point – with humour. the world already laughs at kuwait. this aint anyone elses fault but the morons who make the laws and sing the kazhak national anthems
I love the Taiwanese video!
Oh Lighten up folks the Taiwanese video was great!
If anyone is worried about the detection process just walk in backwards everyone will thing your leaving.
Love the unicorns in the first video! Instant classic!
Fashaltna Mindkar
Ok I actually listened to the clip and Fallon is terrible at monologues, he should really drop it. He’s a comedy actor and he’s good at sketches. They should’ve given him a sketch based show instead of wedging him into a talkshow where he starts with a monologue he can’t perform, then goes to a funny sketch for 5 minutes, then fumbles through awkward interviews for the next 50.
On the other hand Jay Leno is terrible at everything so I guess he’s technically a step up
Thanks Jimmy, It’s crowded and we have plenty of traffic here already so that joke is a blessing in disguise. That said everyone knows that the Khaleej is one of the places everyone across the globe would love to see and that joke was just the west’s way of lashing out at our morals that they do not agree with.
People saying its embarrassing that this happened, not really. Foreigners can say whatever they want and it should not bother. Those who are bothers suffer from something called superiority complex which means they always think they are less than others (countries, people, etc) Be confident in yourself and lets resolve our own problems by ourselves regardless if people make fun or not.
You think the US cares what people say? And they have much more screwed up and shadier stuff that they’ve passed.
I’m not condoning the gay detector (gaydar? lol) just that we should not let anything sway our emotions.
Also Mark, just for future reference, an opening act is not quite what jimmy does at the beginning of his show. It’s called a monologue. It’s daily and not so much an act. #correction
Orientalism at its finest my friends; The Western media is looking for anyway to make us look like a dysfunctional backwards society. If news came out that Arabs made a revolutionary medicine it wouldn’t spread like this news did.
seriously – you can’t see that they are absolutely correct? this is not orientalism – it is completely mockworthy and more. This is not people pointing at Kuwait trying to ‘make’ it look ridiculous. or does no one remember the kazakh national anthem incident?
1 guy saying or doing something stupid shouldn’t = an entire country
I think when that one guy happens to be in a position of power, what he says does matter.
and also this is far more than one guy. i say again – kazhak national anthem.
Deary, that kind of a news is impossible to come from an arab country. Ha Ha! technological innovation, and from an arab country.. nice one!
Mathematics & Astronomy from Arabs? HAH! Very funny… oh wait. Yeahhhhhhhh….
Hama, you’re ignorant.
Please do elaborate
yes please do elaborate. where did they come from then?
Ibn Sina, Jabar bin Hayan, etc are no more. Those kind of Arabs stopped coming long ago. Now, all we have left are arabs who like fast cars, iphones, brand shopping, etc.
I hope you realise how stupid you sound. That might be a big part of them, maybe even a majority, but it definitely isn’t everyone.
what S. said!
lol…i liked the missile!..that totally cracked me up. Im born and brought up here… whether its my country or not does not mean i agree with the laws blindly jus cuz they are put out there. Those who cant take a joke / spoof or someone’s opinion and be liberal minded should ‘seriously’ lighten up!
i thought it was a joke at first which it would be funny but they are actually being serious if you read the uploader’s comments and the rest
Mark, perhaps you should have clarified in your post why people abroad are finding humor in one of the Ministry of Health officials statement about homosexuals.
Since this is a topic that is not well talked about in public, a lot of people don’t know that homosexuality is not something that can be tested clinically. The humor is that the official statement was Kuwait is involved in drafting a unified GCC legislation that will include clinical testing for homosexuality as part of the regular medical examination for any expatriate wishing to get work permit in the country.
and just to add, it is normal to have all kind of discussions between Kuwait and other GCC countries. However the difference between us and all other GCC countries, the draft is approved and implemented immediately at the other GCC countries… but in Kuwait, the draft is not effective until it is presented at the parliament to get approval.
I just got a flash back of an American who once joked about our parliament in a comment posted here… but the truth is, there has always been in the parliament people who defend the constitution and there will always be. And I suppose when this GCC draft arrives to the parliament it will get rejected.
An excellent step towards expanding tourism in Kuwait with banning homosexual…
Welcome to Kuwait…
Whats really interesting is that everyone here says usa this usa that when the video is actually done by some Taiwanese guys.
lol!!
The below forum has changed the story into something untrue. I am against this proposal but I hate it when Kuwait and rest of GCC gets bashed elsewhere.
https://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/5891386/
This goes to show that it takes only one person to ruin the reputation of an entire country or region. God help us, our country, and the GCC.
Arab and Muslim countries are making progress in the treatment of homosexuality. They have no choice in the matter. It’s a process that all societies went through. At first homosexuals must be killed using the most horrific methods. Then comes a time when they are prosecuted and jailed. Next, homosexuality is a disease that must be cured medically. Then it’s the time when homosexuals are somewhat okay, but they should not be allowed to do this and that by law (for example marriage). Then comes eventual acceptance.
Remember, Only half a century ago, Alan Turing, the founder of computer science was subject to such cruelty. Homosexuality was illegal in the UK and an attempt was made to forcibly “cure” him. He eventually committed suicide.
I have a curious question there are some sick arabs located in the Middle East and Kuwait. They say, if your gay you will be arrested?
so what about Bisexuals?
what about the sick trends of some people who say I am the GIVER, and the person below how is taking it is the RECEIVER?
what about the people you see holdings hands in the mall in Kuwait?
to be honest I am an Arab from Bahrain, and I lived in Kuwait for a long time, and i heard stories about this, not only in Kuwait but in other countries?
so really, im not joking or teasing? what about these other problems?
What’s it to you who pokes it where.
Easy. Get over yourself and stop examining strangers for signs of hand holding. Your problem is entirely of your own creation.
highly doubt those you see holding hands are not kuwaiti if they are it is a TINY minority.
I finally got to the bottom of this…
Apparently, we have a confusion between gay/lesbians and transsexuals. The ministry of health wants to check for transsexuals because apparently some lady housemaids turned out later to be men!
In Kuwait, they apparently don’t know how to distinguish between transsexuals and gays… they assume that a gay is a man dressed like a woman (which we have many)…
So it was an error ? A translation mistake? then I agree that this was truly orientalism at it’s best, it’s been a few days and everyone made fun of Kuwait, idk about everyone here Kuwait isn’t the most perfect country with the perfect rules but I have found that living here is great and it’s just simple and I love it even with some of the stupid segregation however I noticed alot of people here tend to OVERREACT to things !! If you don’t like the country, just go back home! how ungrateful these people are! I am not Kuwaiti btw you are living in a country that has took you in instead of your home country, just stop the drama everyone.
i’m glad you like it over here even with the segregation – the gender based, racially based, income based, family based, religion based segregation. You must have ended up on the good side so of course you like it. not all of us did. so hats off to you that you benefit from an evil system!
At Kuwait University HSC campus (medicine, pharmacy, biochemistry, biology sciences, dentistry, other sciences, biotechnology) — there IS NO GENDER SEGREGATION.
I go to AUK, there is no segregation this year for freshmen 1st years, 1st year is basically 100 Level courses.
I have no idea what you mean by ”gender based segregation”.
Also, what do you mean by racially based segregation? I am an ethnic Persian with a Kuwaiti passport, I am not racially segregated from Lebanese, Kuwaitis of Arab ethnicity, Palestinians or any other ethnic group. AUK has many Indian students and a wide range of different ethnic groups. Kuwait University’s HSC campus has many Egyptians, Palestinians and Pakistanis. Is that racial segregation? NO. Most public universities in the world don’t allow foreigners to get in easily. The priority of most public universities in the world is teaching local nationals.
Malls are not segregated, restaurants are not segregated, cinemas are not segregated, private schools are not segregated and many universities are not segregated.
I am a Shia and there is ”no religion based segregated” in Kuwait. Sunnis, Shias and Christians live side by side.
What do you mean by ”religion based segregation” exactly? Is this some kind of joke?
Also, what do you mean by ”income based” segregation?
In every single country in the world (especially USA and Brazil), wealthy people live in upper-class neighborhoods and people of lower incomes live together. In Kuwait, Jabriya contains middle-income apartment blocks that include Kuwaitis nationals and foreigners. That is no income segregation.
In USA, California many neighborhoods are gated and completely segregated on the basis of income. THAT is income segregation. There are no gated communities in Kuwait.
dude I think you must be living in a fairy tale. Why don’t you ask an expat you know about this. You are obviously hanging around good people with forward thinking minds. but that does not mean the country as a whole is like that. The country as a whole is completely different!
Thanks Mark, for sharing the video.
I’ve been here in Kuwait for 18 yrs and im not surprised to hear such jokes… anyway stereotyping here is common! There’s a tag for every race!
I’ve learned that… (they say) close guy friends here (some) hold hands, kinda acceptable for them.
They deny homosexuality here though it’s so obvious. They only call it gay when the person acts one or only receives.. the giver is “not” gay!
I have a gay Kuwaity colleague, pretty face with growing bosom. Coz of that, (arabs) some likes him and others despise him. In recent police checkings, a police punched his face and cut his hair to a regular arab guy hair.
Kuwait, if you got offended by Jimmy Fallon’s joke… what about giving importance to respect first.. and you (like any other countries) have more pressing issues to tackle other than homosexuality…
Peace
1. It’s a proposal.
2. It’s meant for transsexuals like drag queens. There is no ”gay detection test”.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/11/gulf-countries-medical-checks-transgender-expats
https://www.politicalresearch.org/how-well-meaning-social-justice-groups-are-misinterpreting-kuwaits-gaydar-testing/
Amen McCoy!
I’m not against anyone opinion here.
But anyone feel offended by the thumbnail of the first video?
The thumbnail got changed after posting the video and don’t think a lot of people saw it since by then I had swapped to my own thumbnail.
nope!
To be honest, I don’t see the big deal in this, people should know that:
1. 75 other countries already bans homosexuality.
2. Some gays are perverted where they might become kid thirsty and they wouldn’t understand and it would probably escalate.
3. This is aimed at maids who are homosexuals…..
