I picked up my Tamiya Lunch Box kit today. The Lunch Box is based on an old dodge van and was originally released I think in 1988. Recently though Tamiya has been re-releasing some of their “greater hits” and the Lunch Box is one of them.
Sadly I won’t be building this truck yet since I’ve ordered some parts off eBay (metal bearings / a faster motor) and they still haven’t arrived. For now I’ve started with the painting. Originally the Lunch Box is supposed to be painted yellow but I saw a guy online who had his painted military green and I decided to basically copy him. Its my first time painting and I think I’m doing good for a beginner.
I was a bit heavy handed with the spray paint at first and I am not too patient waiting for the different coats to dry but I’m still learning so I should be better the next time. I think I need to pass by the dealer later in the evening and pick up another can of paint just to be safe.

that was stencil graphics, you can be messy in that and the result will end up looking better than if you did a clean job. spray painting a car body though you have to be very clean or the mistakes show. so far i’ve done a few coats and the can finished so i need to get another can. i have minor blemishes but nothing major.
now i have some chrome parts (front and rear bumper plus side exhausts) i am painting gray. those i am having a bit of trouble with and i think i’m using too much paint on them. not much i can do about it though..
AngelOfDeth: it varies, the lunch box costs around KD30 but you also need to add a servo which is another KD8 and a radio receiver which is an additional KD10. This is if you already have a radio control, battery and charger. if not then you need to add these also to the price.
LoL some one is getting addicted ;P~
The matte finish on the car makes it look a lot better than the original yellow, it makes it look more “realistic” I suppose.
make it look like the van from the A-team
looks like you have to paint the wheels too, that yellow wont go with military green. :S
yeah already started but ran out of paint
all the effort for the paint job and i bet you the first run u will crack the body
i doubt i would crack this but definitely scratch the hell out of it 🙂
Mark you reminded me of my childhood!! I used to always buy the lunch box cars and always loved the yellow van
you mean matchbox cars, this isn’t a matchbox…
I had a couple of Tamiya cars in the past. I was mostly into the 4WD belt driven touring cars. Your posts are kinda getting me interested again =D

which kind of motot did you order ? brushless ?
and why you dont order it from the dealer ?
*motot = motor
STING: no i just ordered the Sport Tuned 540. I would have gotten it from the local dealer but the problem is since they’ve opened up at Tilal they’ve become extremely popular and have run out of most of the items. They get restocked fully again next month so until then I have to feed my addiction from ebay.
