The Jaguar F-Type

A couple of weeks ago I was driving on the highway when a Jaguar F-Type drove past me. It was the first time I had seen one in person and I thought the rear end looked amazing which is why once I got home I emailed my contact at Jaguar asking if I could borrow the car, which I did, last week.

The F-Type turned out to be smaller than I was expecting it to be and that’s a good thing since I’m not a fan of large sports cars. It’s a 2-seat roadster convertible with a soft top that comes with either a V6 or a V8 engine. The model I tested had the V6 S-type engine which has 40 more horsepower compared to the regular V6.

The F-Type is by far the best looking Jaguar in production right now and is easily one of the hotest looking roadsters available on the market. I love the direction they went with the rear end but even the front of the car looks slick and aggressive. The interior of the car I drove was a combination of black and tan. I’m not usually a big fan of tan but since the dashboard and everything else was black and just the leather seats and leather trim in tan, the combination looked pretty good.

Performance wise although the car I drove was the F-Type S it wasn’t as fast as I was hoping it would be. Don’t get me wrong, I risked deportation a number of times while driving the car (by accident of course) but it wasn’t the “this car is going to kill me” kinda fast. On the other hand the car sounds INSANE! The model I drove was the fully loaded F-Type S with the optional exhaust system installed and if there is one option you have to get with this car this is the one. The exhaust system by default sounds fairly normal but there is a little switch on the centre console which once pressed transforms the exhaust into a completely different beast. The car was easy to drive (slow and fast) and it felt pretty responsive and agile weaving in and out of traffic.

I didn’t have or spot any major issues with the car during the time I had it but I was supposed to drop a friend off at the airport with the car and I couldn’t. The trunk of the F-Type is so small that I couldn’t fit a medium sized bag into it. I also had an issue with the car dials, during the day they just seemed a bit dark and I kept wishing they were much brighter. Finally the soft top, it’s not just with this Jaguar but in general I’m just not a fan of soft tops in Kuwait. For the good part of the year the roof is going to be closed and a foldable hard top would be much more practical solution for our weather.

One thing that surprised me about the car was the price. Whenever a friend asked me how much the car was worth I told them I didn’t know but that I assumed it cost upwards of KD30,000. When I was returning the car I found out the car actually starts at around KD22,000 which I felt was undervalued. The car looks like it’s worth a lot more than that and if you look at what else is available at that price range the Jag looks like a great buy. Of course with all the extra options the price does add up. If you want the F-Type S that starts at 25,000 and the model I drove was a fully loaded F-Type S (exhaust, rear camera, 20inch wheels etc..) which costs 29,500. The V8 model is even more expensive of course.

Anyway if you’re interested in test driving the car yourself you can pass by the Jaguar dealer in Al-Rai (Al-Zayani) and check it out there.

Jags have absolutely awful reliability ratings. If offered one for free, I’d decline or just try to sell it off quickly.

This is true now. Wasn’t the case when they had a premier auto division that consisted of JLR, Aston Martin and some others brands. Kudos to them for coming out of the crisis without a govt bailout and for the Raptor SVT F-150.

Which car did you have more fun driving, the ZL1, or the F-Type. Also, if you were to choose one car to have, which would it be?

ZL1 was more fun to drive but if I had to choose between the two the Jaguar is the one I’d want to own because it looks way hotter and the fact it has a Jaguar badge.

If I were to choose one car to have which it would be? Not sure, probably my FJ since I need an SUV and the FJ has taken all my day to day abuse without a single hick up. If I could own an FJ and another car then the options are wide open. Maybe an older all black Ferrari F430 or a silver McLaren.

Legitimate question, I’ve noticed that all the pictures on your posts are very small. Do you choose to display them this way because of a technical purpose, or do you personally choose not to have a clickable, higher resolution version available?

My posts pictures should be 400 pixels wide due to my blogs theme design. I should probably update the blog and widen my posts but changing the theme is always a headache. Sometimes I put thumbnails which are clickable and open up the images to 800 pixels wide but I didn’t do it this time.

If you want larger versions of the photos above you can check them here

If there is any specific photo you want even higher res just let me know.

I thought you lived in Kuwait long enough and started to think like a Kuwaiti. Apparently I was wrong.

People did not buy a Jag when it was priced around 13K and was owned and manufactured by the Brits. You think they’re going to buy it now?!

Jaguar Cars, since December 2012 officially incorporated as Jaguar Land Rover Ltd, is a British multinational car manufacturer headquartered in Whitley, Coventry, England, owned by Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC, a subsidiary of Indian automaker Tata Motors.

Source: Wikipedia

It is still designed and manufactured by the Brits in Coventry, Warwickshire and Birmingham. Jag is owned now by the Indian company “TATA”. This car in-particular was designed by Ian Callum, a Scotsman who designed the Aston Martin DB9. Please do your homework.

And yes, TATA took over Jaguar in 2008, five years before this post so no excuses for your comments.

awesome car and thanks for giving me chance to sit inside it in our parking garage šŸ˜€ thats probably the last time ever im going to sit in a car like that šŸ˜›

This car is absolutely beautiful and fantastic. It sounds glorious too. It is not good enough is an understatement.
Both the E-Type and the F-Type is an awesome cars. I imagine it would not be possible to build something like the E-Type this day and age that meet US, EU and other country car regulations AND included all the luxury features that people now expect. With that said yes they are very different cars (I personally don’t buy the whole DNA marketing hype) So if you want something new and shiny just off the factory line and you don’t want the “tired” look of a Porsche or BMW then the F-Type is clearly a stroke of “genius”

Where did you take these pictures? I mean the locations. I am always impressed by the locations & lightings you use for the pictures.

Thanks, it’s an underground parking lot out in the free trade zone. The lighting wasn’t that great on this occasion since i arrived there slightly late and the sun was already too low and i was underground…

Those Images, look like Jag PR Images, to me !

And I do not think, that the Camera Brand, has any

thing to do with the nice Images !

I do agree with “Ahmed G” about the Look’s !

Jaguar makes nice cars.
Jag upkeep is a bit pricey, sometimes too pricey.

When Jag bill has something like “Windsheild wash KD2.5” … After owning three or four Jags (my wife loves them) its time to move on.

I’d hate to see what the maintenance cost on this one would be.

Ha! Yesterday I left a comment above saying if I could have any other car with my FJ it would either be an all black Ferrari F430 or a silver McLaren and this morning I got a package from McLaren which included a sketch of a silver McLaren and a McLaren cap

I can’t find the keys to the car though they must have forgotten to send me it…
