Early in the year I decided I was going to start buying all my iPhone apps instead of illegally downloading them. Problem I faced was the fact that I couldn’t download some of my favorite apps because they were only for the US based users. The apps I couldn’t download were the Amazon and eBay ones and both of which don’t cost a thing, they’re free. But, since my credit card is Kuwaiti based I have to purchase all my applications from the Kuwaiti iTunes store which didn’t have those two apps. Recently CNN released an iPhone application and again it was only available to US based customers so I looked for a way to download these apps and I found one.
To download applications from the US based iTunes store all you need to do is get a US based iTunes gift voucher. I found a website online where you could buy a $15 cards for $18 and have the code emailed to you. The website uses PayPal so its safe and unlike some other websites this one sells legit cards so you know your account won’t get shut down by Apple later. Here is the [Link]
Once you get a US iTunes card just go to the US iTunes store and click on Redeem Code. Then create a new account and under the credit card option choose “none”. And that’s it, you can now download US only iPhone apps. As a bonus you can also download songs and movies as well.
Update: If you just want to download some free US only applications like the ebay and amazon apps, a reader just posted that you don’t even need to buy a voucher for that. Just go to the US app store and click on a free app, then create a new account like above with a US mailing address and for credit card choose none.

Thats also another alternative, I’ve purchased xbox points from there but last week their site was down so I thought they got shut down. Looks like they weren’t.
Ah I knew about this ages ago, been using the US store since my ipod video lol. Hope apple doesn’t plan on fixing this loophole anytime soon as every time I read their updated user agreements they say something about them using certain technologies to detect whether someone is actually outside the US or not. Haven’t been caught yet so its all good.

You can make an American iTunes account for free. Just go to the app store and “buy” a free app. Once you do that, it will ask you to either sign in or register. Register, and where it says payment method, click “None”. Than just fill out the blanks with either an Airamex mailing info, or a u shop we ship mailing info. Than your done ;D.

They sell these in bahrain in a place called apple machines or something like that.

Jack: The Amazon, eBay and CNN apps are not available in the iTunes Kuwait store.
Khaled: Make sure you are in the US iTunes store, scroll to the bottom and you should see a US flag on the bottom right. If you don’t click on the flag you see and then select USA. In case you are in the actual US store make sure you try and download a free app not a paid one or else you will have to give your credit card info.

Mika.. I had the same problem, but all i had to do was find a free app and click on it. From then on, you’ll find the “none” button.
But if you just try creating one the normal way, the none button won’t be available.
The media providers ought to let go of anachronistic notions of region- or nation-based restrictions. As Mark notes people will go to the blackmarket of illegal downloads or entrepreneurs will sell you $15 for $18. Can’t think of an easier – and legal – way to make 20% on an investment.
subscribe at 6$ per month to a US based VPN and you get all the downloads you want.
I only enable it for the transaction, buy then pause the dload. disconnect the vpn and continue the dload.
Fadi: If you use a VPN or not it doesn’t matter since iTunes doesn’t check your ip or your geo location. iTunes works on your billing address.

I am an avid iphone user myself but I am thinking of getting a SATIO because I like taking pics often but I don’t want to give up my instant push notifications like the iphone and BBM have. I’m not sure if SATIO offers App’s like the iphone “Ping!” or “WhatsApp”. Could you see about possibly doing a review of SATIO? I know you sometimes get invited to try new products. you could do the same trick with Amazon, get a amazon voucher and buy mp3s like that. I personally prefer Amazon over iTunes.
One quick question Mark,
If I currently have an Itunes account linked to a Kuwaiti credit card, can I use that account? Say maybe remove the credit-card info and change the address to the US.
My main problem is I have existing purchases with my current account and didnt want to lose those by creating a new account.
Thank God: I have two accounts authorized on my itunes and mac. One with a kuwaiti card and the other US. You can install the apps on your iphone etc.. just make sure you go to the menu and select authorize this mac. Every account allows you to authorize 5 macs to work with it.
Bought a $10 card from Maximuscards.com, entered the code in “redeem”field, created a separate account in Itunes (already have one in Apple). Code accepted, tried to purchase abook and got the same stupid msg that this ID is valid for purchases in Kuwait only.
Now I have to ask for a refund from Maximuscards:(
