35mm Slides of Kuwait from 1961

Not sure what I was searching for on eBay but I ended up finding a 35mm slide of Kuwait for sale taken back in 1961. My curiosity kicked in so I decided to see if there were more 35mm slides of Kuwait and ended up finding a few for sale and a whole lot that had previously sold. I saved all the ones I found, they’re 32 photos to be exact and I’ve shared them below.

All these photos were sold by the same person on eBay and they all date back to 1961. The interesting part is that all these slides were sold individually and each one had multiple bids on them. Some ended up selling for over KD40 (per slide) and some quick poking around made me realize most were purchased by the same person.

Whoever is buying up all these slides, email me!

Check out all the photos below, there are some great shots of Kuwait I hadn’t seen before.

This is so cool

Also hilariously puts things in perspective. “Kuwait has gone nowhere since the 60s!” queue pictures of Donkeys on a Highway and the single supermarket

These pics are a treasure trove for those of us being born in Kuwait. The one that caught my eye was that fabulous car being stuck in the sand. Anyone know what car it is?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for all the great posts and those pictures of old Kuwait – always give me nostalgia.

A question please: I was out on the walkway past the Scientific Center near that little Starbucks taking night shots using a tripod. A security guard came up said I’m not allowed to use a tripod (I was using a small table top type tripod). There was another guy with a regular tripod and the security guard stopped him too. Didn’t say can’t take pictures, just can’t use the tripod.

Very odd, and frankly seems typical of these weird nonsensical rules you keep coming up against in kuwait – ‘manou3 this, that mamnou3, here mamnou3, there mamnou3 – you know what I mean. Sometimes seems to me like security guards might making rules up as they go along.

But can’t use tripod for what is a touristic corniche seems worth raising an eyebrow.

Any idea what that’s about?
