Carriage Black – One Month Later

Early this month, Carriage launched their free delivery service where for just KD3.5, you get an unlimited amount of free deliveries for a month. I signed up to it right away and so far I’m loving it.

Before Carriage Black, I used to order from Carriage once or twice a day at least, now its double that. One of the reasons for this is I’ve now started using their groceries section a lot more. For example, I ran out of milk last week and didn’t feel like driving to the supermarket, so I just ordered a bottle through Carriage. Their free delivery service has made their Groceries section a lot more convenient.

Another thing I’ve started doing is ordering snacks on Carriage. Before going to the gym I now order healthy power balls from Clean Eats or if I feel like chocolate, I order a bar from Rococoa. Before their free delivery service, it didn’t make financial sense to order small cheap items.

One thing I was worried about was that the quality of their delivery service would drop but so far since I’ve signed up, I haven’t had any delivery delays. If anything, delivery has been quicker this month. The only thing I’m concerned about is with people abusing the service by ordering cheap items just for the heck of it.

KD3.5 a month for unlimited free deliveries is too good a deal to pass, so if you haven’t signed up for it already, you probably should.

It is a great deal and will make you use the app more often; I used to order from multiple apps but now mainly Carriage. They might add a minimum order if people kept abusing the service to get small items.

But, in general their service is average now, you can check the comments on IG, almost on every picture people are complaining. This is the case even before Carriage Black.

I personally had multiple issues with them, and the worst is that their customer service is REALLY bad when it is during rush hours. No one replies.

I actually do feel guilty sometimes to order basic groceries for 300-500 fils.

But then laziness supersedes everything.

Well now that you literally shined a flashlight on the thing that you don’t want people doing… Smart!

“Before their free delivery service, it didn’t make financial sense to order small cheap items.”

But also…

“The only thing I’m concerned about is with people abusing the service by ordering cheap items…”

There is a difference between ordering small cheap items and abusing the service. If you want to order a Kinder chocolate egg cuz you’re craving it thats not abusing the service. On the other hand, if you’re ordering small bottles of Arwa bottles one by one just to fuck with Carriage then you’re abusing the system.

While it makes perfect sense to remove the extortionist 1kd delivery pricing, it makes zero sense that they do not have a minimum price for delivery. Even the bakalah downstairs wouldn’t deliver a kinder egg. Anyways I’m happy they are getting reamed, after years of taking 1kd deliveries in a tiny country with extremely cheap gas. Buh bye.

one of the things i put into account while doing a very rough research schedule for opening a buissness was the 25% more or less that they take off the bill from the restauant, i wouldnt mind paying for delivery if it means restaurants and better variety would deliver.

Extortionist 1 KD? Are you serious dude? If that’s too expensive for the service provided, you can always go out, drive, go through traffic, find the restaurant, find a parking spot, look at the menu, decide what to eat, pay, wait for the order to finish, drive back through traffic again, eat the food cold because you don’t have an insulated bag.

Why would you go back home without an insulated bag to eat??? With all the hassle of getting a parking spot after all that traffic might just be worth it to eat AT the restaurant?

I never tip (unless I see extremely good service) but tbh 1 k.d is less than the average amount that I see people tipping in most restaurants, especially the high end ones in carriage. You do realise that 1 k.d gets divided between the owner, the delivery man, the IT specialists, the petrol, the car’s insurance, the office’s rent ect. If you can afford carriage’s expensive items then I’m sure you can spare 1 K.D. Stingy much?

That’s actually incorrect! Other than the 1KD delivery customers pay, carriage take anything between 20-30% off the bill from the restaurants as service fee. That is what is used to pay for all the things you mentioned. a quick calculation would show you that Carriage makes a ton of $$$. Which is what surprises me when it comes to how lousy their customer service is

At no point did I say that they make money only with the 1k.d delivery charge, I only mentioned that it gets divided between costs along with other revenues. 1 kd divided between all those factors would mean that the company will have to sell incredibly high numbers of orders a day. I doubt that they make a ton of money due to the high costs of running the business.

I subscribed to their ‘black’ subscription as well. Unfortunately, in my case, service has become dismal. I’ve noticed the following issues over the past few months:

1. Their actual delivery times are way out of their projected delivery timeframe.
2. It’s now not uncommon to get deliveries an hour late.
3. Live chat is quite useless; all they do is confirm that the delivery will be made “as soon as possible”, with no clear commitment.
4. They don’t bother refunding the money when a severely delayed order is cancelled.
5. No one calls back, despite promises to the contrary.
6. Drivers’ quality and customer service is quite varied now (courteous/polite to rude/arrogant), which indicates training standards have fallen, likely due to increased demand for more drivers.

In short, in my experience, they are unable to maintain their level of service; I will certainly be welcoming (and using) a competitive service like Deliveroo when it comes to town.

exactly the same experience. i had a food delivery at 10 they came at 12
i had passed out and asked them to cancel. they avoided allowing me a refund for being 2 hours late.

the restaurant it turned out was 10 – 15 mins away well.

Phase 1 should have been rolled out by now with Phase II coming Feb 1. It’s why I think Carriage was so heavy on promotions this past weekend. No idea why its launch has been pushed again. Maybe the launch dates weren’t the correct ones and were being shared just to mess with Carriage.

Leave the cheap items alone, someone I know over social media highlighted that she ordered 2 orders back to back with only 1 min difference, both orders made it on time with different drivers. absolute waste of resources.

Well that’s happened to me before due to indecisive friends. “Ordering from Elevation, does anyone want anything?” “No” I place order then “Oh wait get me a burger and milkshake” 🤦🏼‍♂️

That happened to my friend by accident, even though she tried to correct it. She ordered a large order for her family and realized she missed a big part after she ordered. She made a second order just a few minutes later, but she put in her “special instructions” that she placed 2 orders and they could bring together.

LIterally, the two delivery drivers showed up at the same time and the restaurant called her complaining that she used both their drivers! Obviously they didn’t read the special instructions, nor use any common sense. (BTW, the first order was almost 20KD and the second around 5KD, so it wasn’t like they were cheap orders).

One of the best ways to get your order as fast as possible with Carriage is to use the CASH option, try it and see how it changes your experience.

Another good method is to order from restaurants that you know are near your.

Also, you can beat the busy hours by ordering a little earlier when the estimated times are low.

I learned my lesson and from now on ONLY pay by CASH (if the driver is late more than 60 minutes, I simply refuse the order with a smile) 🙂

First of thanks a lot for informing us of Carriage Black. I never used to use the service prior because I felt it was expensive. Would rather go out and pick the food from a restaurant near by or use Talabat. I was wondering now that we can subscribe and pay a monthly fee for unlimited delivery, have they cut down the pay for the drivers? Or is it still the same? And how do they get paid? Also if they rely on tips? And if so any suggestions?

Thanks again, I found it very helpful and useful to order from a variety of good restaurants rather than using Talabat and getting same old, mostly junk food.

Just to point out – Not all deliveries are free with Carriage Black. You still have to pay charges for those deliveries done by the Restaurant for example Rockhouse Sliders, Humble Burger, Choowy Goowy, Subway, etc. So by saying it is unlimited free deliveries is misleading.

Also, anyone else notice that their delivery guys stopped wearing uniforms?

Thank you Sara.
Was about to join Black, but Rock House is my favorite.
And their delivery is more appealing on Talabat.

They have lunched this recently in Saudi Arabia for 40 SR, which is crazy.

However, i really hope i’m able to get in touch with the right ppl to complain about the service here because they have recently celebrated 1 year launch in Saudi Arabia, but they have been making the same mistakes for a year

It was possible to call them but they stopped this service, i hope they include hotline for members of this Carriage Black service

Btw, if Deliveroo going to launch soon in Kuwait, why they still don’t have instagram page for Kuwait?

Suggested correction:

free delivery service where for just KD3.5, you get an unlimited amount of free deliveries for a month.

its not free if its KD 3.5…rather..

I have a disruptive idea, start cooking school so people learn to make their own food at home and stop ordering online. Haha just kidding.

I wonder what the Carriage, Talabot, Deliveroo driver’s employment situation is ….Do these companies provide the vehicles, fuel, and maintenance or dump all that on the drivers like the taxi company owners.

Just a quick update on Deliveroo, apparently as is evident they have not started operations officially but i just bumped into a deliveroo delivery guy in Hawally and he told me that they have started training and trial runs as of now and very soon they will be starting regular operations. 🙂

Hola!
Help appreciated –
Tried to join Black, got my card charge-tested ($1) twice, but was not subscribed.
Called and live-chatted with Carriage but no avail, other than a humble suggestion to buy a new phone.
I’ve got a iPhone 4s. Could this be the case?
Thanks! 😀

Same thing happened to me. I signed up for the free subscription to Black Carriage. First it said the transaction didn’t go through, so I dd it again – and got charged twice. (OK, its supposed to be only $1, which they’ll refund, so i wasn’t really bothered by that.) But then I ordered from Freshii and was charged for delivery. I thought maybe it took time to go into effect. But I ordered again today (6 days later) and got charged again. I’ve been in a live chat with their “customer care” for like half an hour… When he finally understood my question, he said that restaurants with a blue icon (somewhere) aren’t covered. I didn’t see a blue icon for Freshii so I asked him if it was covered. He couldn’t tell me… but finally he said that yes, it’s covered by Black Carriage. I asked why I was being charged for delivery then. He said to wait while he checked again to see if Freshii was covered. So I was waiting… and his next message was telling me that he was ending the chat because he hadn’t received a reply from me in a long time! And he left.

By the way, does anyone know why the old management left?
