Monoprix Supermarket Now Open!

Yesterday Monoprix finally opened in Assima Mall so I passed by briefly today to check it out and wow. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but definitely not what I saw. Monoprix is easily the nicest looking supermarket in Kuwait right now. Like completely blows everything else out of the water.

Everything from the veggies section to the fish section looks incredible and its definitely going to be my new goto supermarket.

They have a shop and go service as well where you can shop for groceries and then have them deliver it to you later. While browsing the shelves I found a lot of brands I hadn’t seen anywhere else so it’s not just the same products in a nicer environment.

On the other hand, there aren’t any self check out stations which sucks. If you want to pass by check it out, they’re open daily from 9AM till midnight.

Shame that the parking in that place is a complete nightmare! I was there on Saturday and it took 50 minutes to get out of the parking building.

That better be hyperbole because I haven’t visited this mall yet and I am already having anxiety.

Must be at night. I’ve never been to Assima at night, tried going to monoprix tonight and couldn’t even get into the street that leads to the parking because of the amount of traffic. Having two parking entrances on one side of the mall on the same tiny street in a heavily congested block was not the best idea.

I park in this lot daily (the first parking entrance). Prior to 5pm it is fine to get in and out. After 5pm, expect 45-60mins just to get out of the lot especially if you are parked on the upper levels. The design of entering from below and exiting from above both side by side does not work and just creates a jam everyday.

Yeah building seems poorly designed. When I come up with escalators if you turn right to go around to next level of escalators the walking path goes from fitting 4 people side by side to having to squeeze through a pillar and a railing just to pass. And navigating once inside the mall isn’t well thought out. Bathrooms are nice though.

I just been there today and it was great; so many products I remember seeing in France, but the problem I noticed is that a lot of those products are going to expire later this month or early July which is a shame they didn’t open this place sooner. Also, I hope they continue to bring these new products and not just stop after a few months and bring in the usually jamiya’a junk like every where else 🙄

Does anyone have a comment on the prices.. are fruits, veggies, the regular stuff that you get in other supermarkets priced at par or have they added a premium?

Prices on products range from reasonable to unreasonable. For example, they have these special Rio Mare tuna pasta cans (not found in other supermarkets I might add) that cost KD4.500! And they’re even quite small for that price.

Great looking supermarket but I was wondering too about the extent of new products or if its just mostly the same but with higher prices in a posh mall. For ex: exact same raspberries in a co-op sell higher in Dean & Deluca. Either way, its one of those places that are nice to stop by if you happen to be in the mall to get some cool niche products I guess. But, I dont see myself going to Assima mall for my foot long grocery shopping list.

same here. I would never ever willingly drive to a mall, with its crowded parking lots and thousands of people to go grocery shopping. And i would never just happen to be in the mall shopping, or eating or at the cinema and suddenly decide to go grocery shopping either

To make it easier for grocery shoppers to push the cart to the basement parking lot I think, this way malls don’t have to install too many flat escalators.

The logic is for easy and quick movement of goods receiving and disposal of waste/ near expiry items.

Also for example if a supermarket is located on the 2nd or 3rd floor of the mall, it wouldn’t be nice lugging around those baskets or trolleys and using the elevators which not necessarily be designed to carry that payload or then hamper the movement of non-grocery visitors in the mall. If there is a separate access planned and only meant for the supermarket for customers to get in and out, that would be another thing altogether…

Just because you an an employee there, please note Monoprix is an EPIC FAIL ! like TF 🙄
No amount of expalition wikl change peoples mind

you’re such a hater. all your comments on the blog are just angry and hateful. The place has been open for two days, looks great, has a ton of new brands which aren’t available in Kuwait and you’re just fucking sitting on your fat ass typing hateful comments for no reason. You’re the failure here.

To be fair, Mark. Everyone used to love Saveco years ago but every single time I went to their Avenues basement branch, it was like a ghost town. Completely deserted. So maybe people have a point?

you’re serious? you’re agreeing with her that Monoprix is a fail when she hasn’t even been there and the place has only been open for a day and a half?

No, I’m just saying it would look better on maybe a different floor.

I love Monoprix and I wish them all the luck in the world. Not hating.

Sounds like a flop.. expensive, elitist, wrong location (mall in city, bad layout of mall itself).. sounds like will go down the saveco way

Omg I am currently stuck on a slope in the al assima parking after visiting monoprix .. honestly
Amazing job on the supermarket .. but the shittiest parking ever in kuwait .. I have never been stuck like this on a slope .. not at all organized whichever dumbass planned this parking space .. sorry but not all worth my time

2 issues
The parking and the streets around the mall are that I who live literally next to al assima mall would drive to Avenues easier than deal with this sh*t

And twice not once i have found egg shells in thier pastries, with about a full week between the 2 purchases. Gives an idea about the hygiene there

Is the parking really as shitty as that in Souk Al Kabeer (for those who remember it once existed too) ? Monoprix will be a blessing for guests staying in Marriott Serviced Apartments when they finally open. I am thinking this will get the Sultan Centre to get its skin in the game and work toward delivering a sleek shopping experience with better layouts and a diverse differentiated product mix than they are doing now.
