Cops and Videos

I didn’t think the police were allowed to film civilians and I was also told we weren’t allowed to film the police. In this specific video the cop supposedly utters an obscenity as well according to the uploader. I say supposedly because the obscenity is censored so you can’t make out what the cop says. [YouTube]

Well I do speak Arabic… But I also don’t really understand the statement and why it’s considered wrong. I just don’t know what he means, never came across the statement before….

Can anyone explain it?

I ain’t sure if he sweared at the expat or he was confused about whether the child was a girl or a boy due to being censored.

Not to mention him starting his sentence with a good manner which does make confusing arguments about what he said.

This pisses me off- you’ve got all this trouble going down all over the Arab world and you pick on a Westerner? That’s outrageous! Clean up your own backyard before you pick on us, we’re just here earning a living and minding our own business. We don’t start any crap and even though we KNOW we are being taken advantage of at every turn in this region, we suck it up and keep on trucking. All we ask is that you keep us OUT of your crapfest and DEFINITLY leave our families alone.

I don’t think anyone deserves such treatment even if it was a person who is from a 3’rd world country. Police should be their to protect and serve not anything less nor more.

I believe their is a lot of good kuwaiti policemen hopefully they eradicate this negative behavior.

Don’t generalize. Many foreign companies are here taking advantage of the high paying tax free life. its our fault we aren’t more selective with who we hire and how much we pay them tho.

However with regards to the video its sad, since when do we treat people we label as visitors like this and abuse our power and take a video of their family, neither in our culture nor religion nor our traditions is this accepted or dissmissable and there should be a first strike rule to be set as an example to all who take their duty and role, as a member and representative of govt, lightly.

Also All Police and interior Minstry staff should go through intensive PR work, i’m willing to offer if they pay : D

Uhmm not defending the cop, but you stfu in western countries (UK) cops are complete cu*ts to students at times so stop playing victims your sense of entitlement is appalling . Westerners are not above the law I doubt he saw white flesh and decided to stop them but..

Police: ” license and registration please ”
Police: ” this girl is attractive (with different words)” ( censored part)
Police: ” give me the registration… this” ( cant speak English properly)

he probably shouldn’t have recorded nor commented on her appearance ( knowing they wouldn’t understand a word he says )

and people are over reacting and saying this cop is humanizing foreigners.

They shouldn’t hire these barbarians to this profession, cops should have at least solid basic education and critical skills to deal with people fairly

He can’t even ask for registration in English, apparently anyone with a pulse can become a cop here

I’m not saying all of them are like that, but these minority give cops a bad reputation.

I’m one of them and am grateful that I can get by without it, but the poster was implying that there was something wrong with the cop because he couldn’t speak English.

I saw the uncensored video, and he said:
“هالبنت مالت شلع يا ولد”

the word “شلع” (the word that was censored) literally means removing something by force

what he said can have different meanings, but the way I understand it he was saying, “this girl is so attractive she should be kidnapped”.

Did he mean it, maybe, maybe not, but either way, he shouldn’t have said it, and definitely shouldn’t record a video while saying it.

Yup.

What is confusing is how he was talking to the mother politely and saying things like “الله يحييج” after asking for her license and registration and following it immediately with that statement.

You’d expect that way of talking from teenage boys fooling around when they’re abroad visiting places where they don’t speak Arabic.

I’m surprised that some people are “shocked” and “surprised” by this video. Seriously, what do you expect? Even top ranks in the Ministry admit that their police are the worst. All who they’re able to attract into their force are dropouts from highschool… they give them authority and a gun so all of a sudden those dropouts find themselves overwhelmed with this… and they misuse it.

Here is one funny observation… around the world they teach law enforcement officers to say Sir and Mam whenever they’re communicating with those of ranks higher than them or when dealing with general public. Here in Kuwait they’d only use these words to those who are of higher ranking of them. If they’re dealing with public… they would never EVER say Sir or mam. Because… they believe that the word “Sir” is demeaning… so the higher rank can demean who is lower than him… and now they’re learning to demean the people.

Cops in the western world do a lot worse than this to “foreigners” (non-whites). Typically includes beatings, and if you’re black, maybe even a shooting.

I work at her school!!!! I’ve already informed them and the parents who are considering a huge deal of it! Dirty cop commited four crimes: first, she is a minor, you cannot film a woman in kuwait without getting consent, it is illegal, second, he posted it on the Internet, he used obscene language, fourth he didn’t follow procedure, fith, he did not protect and serve. DISGUSTING but NOT surprised. Very sad, cop should be castrated! Wake up people!

Well like all over the world
The minority of cops are good and a minority are bad and a majority just follow the orders of their superior regardless if the command is just or not.

here in kuwait there has been incidents with rapist cops,
Violent cops, cops whom setup people to serious crimes like in wafra placing drugs in their car for extra days off and more money.

I hope they start installing dash cam on police cars, where they have to tape their interaction with civilians and the footage would be monitored by committee and not moi.

There ARE crappy people in EVERY society, color, race and country, just as there are people who believe in justice, fairness and acts of kindness.
I honestly believe these values are shared and wished for by all of us, regardless of our religion or location.
