Kuwait – 1988

A short video recorded back in 1988 showing various parts of Kuwait including the now-demolished Al Salam Building, Souk Mubarakiya, the stock exchange and Sultan Center (which looked a lot better than it does today). Not sure if you hear this enough, but thank you for the service and information you provide. For over a decade I’ve been coming to your blog for 98% of my information for living in Kuwait. I even check your regularly during the months or years that I’m away. Seriously thanks for regularly updating content and keeping all of the citizens and expats informed through your platform. Is there a Kuwait equivalent to giving a key to the city? If so, you definitely deserve it.

Jay L, as spirited as the debate was in the other thread, you’re spot on with this, and it gets my +1.

Thanks, Mark.

This is very well taken! Brings back a lot of memories. How cool would it be to identify someone from this now; a close friend, a lost family member, even oneself! Pure Gold Mark!

Nice video Mark. Kind request….do you have any old 1980’s videos of failaka…used to live there before the war….

I remember begging to my dad to take me to the sultan centre just to ride that small cart.
Brought back old memories.

I saw this before, and that Sultan Center looked like how I remember it, but completely different. Also, that Michael Jackson “Bad” poster being shown added to the nostalgia. Also also, the cashiers looked better and more sophisticated than they do now lol.

Awesome, love these posts of Kuwait from the past. Is it me or does the stock exchange seem just like gambling? That guy with binoculars like he was following the horse he placed a bet on.
