Kuwait Police Drone

Due to the fact the video is filmed on somebodies couch and the drone uses the old police insignia, it’s fair to assume this is someones personal project and not a new police surveillance tool. [YouTube]

Some kid was being funny, but it all went to hell. Yesterday in the newspapers the MOI said there was no such official drone and issued an arrest warrant for the poor kid.

The fact that he has illegally used flashers, sirens, the official colors, logo and tags of the Kuwaiti Police Force on the drone should be enough to imprison this guy for false representation of the Kuwait Police Authority and or impersonating a police officer. Both of which would lead to serious jail time in any part of the world.

Well he didn’t impersonate the police. It’s not like he flew it outside and started chasing people with it. Can’t I dress like a policeman for Halloween? Or if I’m filming a movie and need a cop car in it can’t I make a car look like a police one? As long as you’re not impersonating an officer you shouldn’t get in trouble and I doubt the guy in the video will get in trouble.

I don’t think you can legally dress as a Kuwaiti police officer, maybe you could don the uniform of an officer from another country. People have done that here for Halloween.

I don’t know, I could be wrong, but it seems like a slippery slope to do that.

Not at all related, but just wanna know if anyone using Ooredoo has been on the phone all day – thanks to the Olympic gold and the announcement of free local and international calls for today. Are you sure you’re not being billed? 🙂

You are right, maybe I over stepped a bit when I said impersonating the police. As for Halloween, dressing up like a cop or making a vehicle to look like one. In the US or Canada sure why not. Lots of costume shops rent out cop uniforms. They are great for bachelorette parties as well I guess.. Also in the US and Canada lots of film studios have cop cars for filming on their lots and any independent film maker can rent one if they need it providing he or she has all the right permit.

But in Kuwait I know that trying to make your self or your vehicle look like a cop is illegal.

That is why even tailors who stich uniforms and insignias on uniforms or vests or any other official form of clothing ask for proper identification from any individual who walks in asking them to work on uniforms.

Same with vehicles, I am sure if you were to go to a painter or a graphics artist to make or design you a wrap on skin for your vehicle representing an official insignia for any MOI vehicle here in Kuwait they would flat out say no.

I also know of an incident where an individual was arrested for using the red and blue flashers behind the grill of his Grand Marquis and flashing people on the high way just so that he could get people to move out of the way. A real off duty cop just happened to get flashed and that’s how he got pulled in to prison. The guy is now serving a 10 year sentence to be followed by deportation

As for filming a movie in Kuwait, if your movie required a police car in its scenes then with the proper permits and licenses both from MOI as well as the Ministry of Information chances are that in the spirit of cooperation they probably would have allowed you to film a scene or two using an actual cop car. The PR department of the MOI is known for trying to spread good PR and an end of credits note from a local or for that matter an international director of a movie thanking the Kuwait Ministry of Interior for their cooperation does go a long way in adding a feather or two in the MOI’s PR department hat.

Tech has come a long way.. drones are a part of that new tech. Kuwait is always looking for new tech to up its game against crime so I wouldn’t be surprised If I were driving and were to be approached suddenly out of no where by a drone with official cop colors , flashing lights and sirens. I would probably believe it to be the real thing. However, one thing is for sure I would be scared shitless and probably freak out like no one’s business and either crash my own vehicle or coz some one else to crash.

That is why in my book I consider them to be a danger in the wrong hands.

isnt it an innovative idea. I think the MOI should adopt this in some manner, to get to hard to reach places.
