The Camry Accident

[YouTube]

This video has been circulating the web for the past 2 days (warning it’s graphic) but I was wondering if anyone else thinks it could be a fake? For some reason this feels like a Saudi awareness campaign to try and show the guys who street drift like this what could happen. The car rollover effects also kinda reminds me of [This]

Update: Frankom just shared with me some more videos of this incident in the comments below and I’m not starting to think it’s real.

yeah i found an uncropped version of that video

Do you notice anything similar between the two videos? Notice how both of them continuously zoom and out? I would say 99% of the videos I’ve watched of these drifts are shot with mobile phones and I’ve never seen anyone zoom in and out towards the action ( at least i don’t recall).

Also with all this chaos with all this debris flying everywhere somehow both camera guys where able to spot the arm flying off and landing on the road and then both of them zoomed in towards it.

Most of the phone cam videos you see are really old. Like pre-2004 old. Newer videos are all shot with HD cams.

I think it’s real. Here’s a link to a Saudi newspaper that wrote about the accident:

https://sabq.org/Mkifde

I was once in a car accident, and the car rolled 3 times. Our stuff were scaterred over half a kilometer. Car accidents happen very very quickly, not like we see in movies, and the heavy weight of the car smashes into you. And that hurts like nothing else.

Same here. It seriously seemed like it was rolling faster and faster. But if you look at videos of the aftermath you know it’s real.

Lots of energy there Mass Times Velocity remember E=MC2.

If the driver lived he should be made to clean up the mess he caused and apologize to all the motorist he caused delay to.

If he didn’t make it hope he is forced to walk for the rest of eternity

I thought it was an odd that nobody in the crowd moves when the car starts coming at them. Maybe it looks closer to them than it actually was but if a car was coming at me like that, I’d be running.

After 18 years of experience in fire/rescue work, I can tell you that this video is 100% real. Understanding the “mechanism of injury” is really what tells the tale the best. During the slow motion replay you can clearly see at least 3 ( maybe 4) occupants begin to be at least partially ejected from the vehicle after it rolls one complete evolution. By the second evolution at least one occupant is ejected ( out and to the left of the screen). This is the occupant that had had his arm severed that lands on the street to the right. This would have occurred when the arm was pinned beneath the vehicle while the rest of the body was already being ejected by the centrifugal force. The bottom line is this: There is a high probability that all of these guys would have lived to tell the tale of their accident if they had been wearing seat belts. I don’t care how big your biceps are fellas….you can’t hold onto a car that is generating more than 300 g’s in a roll over accident such as this. Buckle up, and don’t drive like a maniac!

“18 years of experience”

Uses “evolution” instead of ‘revolution’ – which would have been used in an incorrect way. Planets revolve around the sun, and satellites revolve around their geogravitational points.

Singularity of the word- ‘the moon completed one revolution around the earth”, plurality example- “the moon revolves around the earth many times in one year.”

For some reason, I don’t think this guy has even a year of experience in many things, the most correct words he could have chosen would be either rotation, spin or flip.. Not evolution.. As used twice. And the best advice he came up with.. “Wear your seatbelts fellas!” Well no duh.

I don’t know man. I am a department of defense trained auto accident investigator, precision driving instructor and do special effects or should I say can do them and this looks pretty legit from the physics to the resolution of the image when freeze framing.

I don’t think it’s too far fetched to think it is fake.

The crowd reactions seemed phony. They stood still as the car was rushing towards them.

I don’t think it’s hard to believe the Saudi government got fed up and flew in some stunts team and paid them to make it look super real.

this vid is faker than people with trickled money.

Where is the blood? Perfect rip on dishdasha should sleve?. Its even Ironed??. Do you think your arm just going to rip off like that without a spray of blood.

I also like, how the guy towards the end flew up from behind the car like superman.

cars driving past no warning lights??

The mentality there is worse than Kuwait, SO you’ll have 80 cars parked on the side just to get in on the action.

This is a drift show. Where are the other cars? whats up with the barrier and all the people standing behind it?

Why are the people in the camera shot in PERFECT dry cleaned dishdashas?

Why is the car fully tinted, so you can’t see anything inside.

But I understand. Everyone had been lied to their entire life. Easily fooled

Trutie

-Blood does not automaticly spray out like it does in the movies.

-The barrier is because those roads in saudi arabia are usually used for drifting.

-Perfectly dry cleaned dishdashas: Well thats what we do every morning before leaving the house.

-Car fully tinted just like many cars are in the middle east.

Definately fake, to many rollovers for the speed. How does a car start to slow down, then have the rollovers only get faster with each rotation?

Another thing I can say. Saudia Arabia or anyone in the middle east for that matter, does not have the ability to do such video effects.

The speed always looks slow in Videos , open youtube 🙂 See how fast they go (Videos taken inside the car – interior)

they go 220 – 240 km/h and without e-brake or any brakes .. 🙂 using steering wheel only to do what they call it Drifting

I am sometimes amazed at the stupidity of the human being…much like parents opening the sunroof of their cars and allowing their kids to stand up through it while the car is on the road. Imagine…head-on accident while driving on our “favorite” Gulf Road…and the kid is DEAD! DEAD! DEAD! Stupid stupid stupid people! Parents such as those should be lynched!

if it’s fake, they did a damn good job with effects, compositing, shadows, color correction, and all that. if it’s real, then the drivers deserve it. and that’s all i have to say about that.
