PantryBee: We have a PantryBee app! Why?

Post by Hind

We launched our PantryBee iOS app yesterday and Mark asked me to write about why we made that decision for our business. As a small business with limited cash reserves, it’s always hard to make the decision to invest in a new platform, and it was a year of back and forth before we decided to finally go ahead.

Why did we do it? Well, it’s obvious to everyone that mobile usage is super high in Kuwait, and that a lot of purchases are done through mobile. We knew that, but we also wanted to verify against our own traffic. So after a year of data collection, we did find that most of our users were indeed purchasing PantryBee meal kits from their phone and that the majority of those were iPhone users. Armed with that info we decided to go for it. The biggest hurdle, of course, was cost. We didn’t have thousands of KD to throw on something that might not be useful, so we went about it as economically as we could with the goal of making our customers experience better.

The first step to creating an app is setting up an account with the Apple Developer Program. This honestly wasn’t that difficult of a process, there’s just a bit of waiting time in order to be verified as a legitimate business. The second step for us was finding an appropriate third party to assist with the App creation process. Seeing as we already had an existing e-commerce backend (Shopify), we searched for companies that had an app that would integrate with the Shopify platform. The whole process from A-Z took about 3 months to get to the current app we have out right now.

Though our site is already mobile friendly, our new app allows a more seamless navigation of our offerings, including app-specific promos, notifications and more. It has all the info and products available on our site, just better suited to a mobile experience. So head to the app store and tell us what you think! You can download our app from this [Link]

If you have any specific comments or want to know more about the process for your own business, feel free to email us at and we’ll try and help as much as we can.

    No android version?

    • Hind says:

As of now no. Because most of our users are iPhone users and our website is mobile friendly we decided to test with iPhone first. If all goes well we hope to expand to Android as well.

I have a lot of questions and confused. Do you guys have a support number/email?

I’m a little thick so here goes.

    You’ve got an offering

1/2 Week Low Carb BundleBee 3.75kd per serving —
    Regular price
    22.500 KD – 3meals – 2 persons

    1) I take it that its 22.500KD per day?

    2) If its on a daily basis, what’s with the 1/2 week? and what is a half week? – 3 or 4 days

    3) Also does a week or half week plan mean I’m eating the same stuff for 3-7 days?

    • Hind says:

      Hi James,

Of course you can email us at Regarding your question the full week is 6 meals total for 2 people delivered over 2 delivery days ie. 3/3 and the half week is 3 meals for 2 people delivered at once so you can cook at your convenience. If you click into the description you can see all the meals that are to be delivered that week.

      • James says:

Ah so 3 meals are not breakfast-lunch-dinner but one plate good for 2 ppl for 3 days. Got that. Let me look at your site again given this enlightment. Thanks, Hind.

      • James says:

Still not sold. So you have the “1 Week BusyBee (3.25kd per serving)” and it says it has 4 meals. You mentioned the 1 week is 6 meals. What gives?

        • Hind says:

Hi James the 1 week busy bee is the 4 weekly meals we have on site ie 1 chicken 1 veg 1 meat and 1 fish dish that change every Sunday.

These dishes are available to purchase al la carte either a single box or you can grab the BusyBee which is more economical if you want all 4 meals that week.

We launched the low carb subscription as a lot of our customers were asking for gluten free, low carb, high protein options. These boxes are not available a la carte and they are different to the weekly meal options.

So the boxes ordered in each are not the same. Hope that clarifies for you let me know if you have any additional questions.

I’m sorry Hind. It must be me but now I’m even more confused. I’m going to write in at the email you had provided and we can talk. Thanks for the prompt responses.

On the feedback front.. when I visit the page from my laptop,

you get a nice youtube video but what comes after right when the video ends is weird – there a tile of 4×3 videos (presumably youtube’s recommendations to watch) – it ranges from drilling meat with a drill, a plane crashing into water, etc… you may have to figure out how to ensure the video goes back to the start

I like this idea and I think I will subscribe after Eid. I would be interested to know if you are able to supply the nutritional details for each meal? I try to count calories and keep track of macros, have you got this calculated?
