Politically speaking: it was the Iraqi Invasion. But we call it the Saddam invasion because we sympathize with the Iraqi people, whom were held hostage to a tyrannical regime, that murdered thousands of its own.
And see how they forget all the international assistance and what all the expats did to suppprt them and their country!
imagine an alternate timeline, all the oil wells have burned away, citizens are required to work as hard as expats to make a living, less racism, more humbleness… sounds like a nightmare a local would have. lol.

I see you just want to fucking rant, need proof? The shaheed Park memorial talks about how international powers (us and ussr) set aside their differences to help us. The every single newspaper talks about how the world help save Kuwait, the Amir sent cables of gratitude and the fireworks and propaganda dances on national day always show the flags of countries that saved us and that’s why they all their diplomats are in the front row with the Amir. You can take your shitty attitude and piss off.

I’m really glad we got support from many countries to help us during the invasion, you guys have all my gratitude.
but those who praise saddam hussain should burn in hell, I really wish for those who praise saddam to feel how it is to be invaded, to feel how it is to be in your own house and in your own room and you’re still afraid that someone might come and kill you and your family for no reason at all.

Kids need to be taught to love Kuwait more. Never to repeat past mistakes (Racism/Sunni-Shia divide/Squandering precious resources/etc)
All what we have and love could be gone in ONE DAY.

A sad event like this is never called an anniversary.
Mark I suggest you, from a linguistic perspective, to use words like Memorial or Commemoration to describe the iraqi invasion, but certainly not an Anniversary.

The word anniversary applies to both sad or happy events. Memorial? Do you even know what that means?
Memorial: a statue or structure established to remind people of a person or event
Commemoration: a ceremony or celebration in which a person or event is remembered
So from “a linguistic perspective” both words you’ve recommended make no sense in this situation and the word anniversary is in fact the correct word to use.
Anniversary: the date on which an event took place or an institution was founded in a previous yea

Btw Kuwait times used anniversary, so did Arab times and the guardian used it both for Kuwait and both world wars. I’m guessing you should email them your comment, I’d love to hear the guardian’s response.
