New Cop Cars Coming Soon

Recently there have been photos circulating of what looks like new cop cars. Usually, this happens when the Ministry of Interior are looking for new cars for their fleet and different dealers provide them with test units. So far the two models I’ve seen are the Volvos (above) and the new Nissan Patrols (below). Not that crazy about the Patrols but the Volvos look hot.

Update: Here are better shots of the Patrol

This will be great publicity for the Volvo brand, as although Volvo makes very good cars/SUVs, with a great reputation in Europe, but don’t appear to be well received here at all…not sure why?

The previous local dealer I don’t think was investing in the brand much but it changed hands recently and now BNK are the Volvo dealers. Plus Volvo is now under the Chinese company Geely who has been doing wonders for the brand. Geely also recently purchased Lotus so they’re going to be working their magic there as well.

There was a time i think in about 2004 or 2005 where Volvo cars were all over Kuwait if im not mistaken. Then they suddenly disappeared and just recently started making a small come back with the suv.

When cars suddenly fill the streets that means the brand invested heavily in promoting its cars. When they disappear that means the dealership failed to offer quality service making existing customers abandon the brand and probably leaving bad reputation behind making it very difficult to attract new customers.

The new patrol just looks a bit dull compared to its previous generations which gave a classy and rugged look… The windows are so big in this models.. I`d say the Volvo looks stunning..

Volvo looks sharp. It’s strange but it’s funny how in Kuwait there are certain models that are popular with woman drivers, Volvo seems to be one of those from what I have observed. I have never seen a Volvo SUV driven by a man on the road.

Volvo looks great, but the patrol will do wonders. Previously the gmc’s were just good for roads, that meant tracking people in the deserts difficult. I’ve seen people flee into mutla with their pickups and 4×4’s and the cops would just stall. Now with the patrol’s they would be able to reach a better part of the desert.

The Volvos will find it difficult to survive in Kuwait, since Police cars need to be very rugged, and be able to survive long hrs in a stationary position with the AC in full speed during the peak summer. This usage pattern has caused havoc for many cars tested.

Tbh i haven’t heard much about volvo air conditioning problems, plus they can always order special air conditioning units for the car since im sure it wont have a standard engine. I actually am considering a volvo suv tbh they are very well priced and rather good looking.

I think the police are testing the volvos to make sure they work before purchasing the units.

Yeah they usually test and evaluate different brands before deciding. The coolest cop cars we’ve had were the BMW 5 series but that was the only time I think they went with a European car. American cars generally are cheaper to maintain.

Their products are cheaper all round especially when it comes to quality. I see no reason for us to use American products considering the asians and europeans (excluding brits) do it better and we can afford to pay more the price difference.

Whut?! American cars are cheaper, spare parts are cheaper, and overall easier to maintain within the Ministry garages/service centers.

wow, by any chance do you recall when they had the bmw’s i was born and raised in kuwait for 20 years before moving out in 2016, i dont seem to remember them

Definitely not 2010’s. The BMW 5 series model used (E39) was produced between 95-04. Kuwait started using them early 2000’s towards the end of that generation’s lifecycle

I heard the reason they got rid of the 5 series and the Audi’s (remember those) was that the cops didn’t want them. If there is damage to the car that is the cop’s fault then they foot the bill. Therefore, cops tend to go with cheaper options.

I wish we’d have a volvo police car, it looks extremely european and refined, why not replace the Americans SUVs with an XC90 as well. Id love a Subaru in our police force to replace the chargers. With the amount of police helicopters and tech they are using i don’t really see a need for high speed patrol cars.

Indeed, they are perfect. It’ll help a failing dealership, the car is fast while able to turn and works perfectly off road. Im sure they can ask for specific springs and chassises from the rally devision to withstand smashing sidewalks and crashing.

The entire GCC is in an economic recession and have budget deficits this year. You sir need to set your priorities in order.

The entire world is in a short term recession due to a virus which will soon be eradicated after which oil prices will return to its former self. The uk has seen budget deficits for decades except for brief surpluses, kuwait has seen the exact opposite. If you think one bad year means the government should cut spending then I thank god you aren’t incharge of fiscal policies, it is basic Keynesian economics, you feed a recession and starve a boom. Plus we have assets of all kinds including highly liquid assets. The government shares in banks (not connected to any fund) alone pays millions in dividends, kuwaiti companies which kuwaiti government, land it leases, shops it leases and international assets tied directly to the government (not it’s funds) all of which leave it with a lovely treasury it accumulated over the past few years.

I enjoy it when i waste my life studying economics abroad and focusing on my country’s economy for my university research papers. Then have someone with no knowledge of how things are run here and probably no degree in economics teach me the economics of my country. Much appreciated and I’m not a sir as i have not be knighted by HRH or her future successors.

Oil prices have been plummeting since way before covid-19 hit buddy. You have all the knowledge we have none, idiot. You aren’t even worth the discussion you seem to get defensive when you face criticism. You don’t need to be knighted by the queen to be addressed as Sir, since you don’t like it I’ll address you as kid. Calm your tits kid. What a piece of work.

So.. how much does a barrel of oil cost kuwait to produce? Is kuwait making a 300% profit at current oil prices? What about my other points about investments? One trick pony aren’t you? I’ll stick to oil then, Were the prices of oil lowering because the prices rose to extremely unstable prices (+$60 per barrel)? I do have the knowledge cause i have a degree in it so dont bitch at me with your 30 minutes cnbc. im sure you arent used to being wrong, your parents treated you like the smartest kid in the world, “No one is better than you” remind you of anything? Rather than throwing a tantrum (very ironic considering.. im the kid??), maybe counter argue? Break my points with hard facts, the facts i have been giving you rather than those one liners you use which are the same ones you hear circulating all the time without actually knowing what they mean.

Modern Volvo is not a good car as parts are very expensive and intentionally unreliable. Not to mention that its shaped after flip flop sandal. I vote for ford crown or 70s Plymouth. Lets leave euro toy cars to little europolizei.

Thats some dumb shit I just had to read in the morning, nobody chooses to intentionally build a car that’s unreliable 🤦🏼‍♂️

This is exactly what he meant. I feel angry knowing that they make them with ‘expiry date’ after which its just too expensive to maintain. With all the new technology they could have build indestructible easily repairable cars, instead they use technology to make them fall apart after 5-6 years of use. Lets not forget that assembly and recycle emits billion tons of co2 and replacing your car every 5 years just makes it really stupid with all the environmental fuss trend circulating around.

You’re never gonna get a cop car like the Ford Police Interceptor Crown Victoria again. Those things last decades and parts are easily and cheaply available.

Volvos will have higher costs of maintenance and parts, and are mostly unreliable (unlike the old Volvos).

Unfortunately even Ford is now only offering an Explorer Police Utility, so there’s not much options available.

Ali,

Thats what i am trying to convey. Volvo of the 90s and Volvo of today are two different manufacturers. I know a lot of people who drive Volvos and they always complain that their car is just falling apart after 5 years of moderate use. I agree that it happens to all cars nowadays, but at least some are cheaper to maintain.
I had to replace tiny thermostat on my American SUV made for european market and the difference in price was horrendous- i paid over 200 eur for a thing that would cost 20 bucks for American version.

I agree. That’s why few Crown Vics are still in service today despite their age, rough shape and high mileage. The legendary Crown Vic Police Interceptor can withstand Kuwait’s heat with zero issues whatsoever.

The Nissan Patrol has to be one of the ugliest SUV’s in history. Not to mention their endless reliability issues and terrible dealership. Nissan police vehicles will definitely fall apart within 6 months.
