Staying home for the next 3 weeks would have been such a chill plan if it wasn’t for the fact that I won’t be able to order food. I hope that rule gets loosened up cuz it would make my life so much easier being able to order lunch.
We get two hours a day to go out for a walk, and I was against that at first because if we are gonna lockdown, we might as well do it right. But then I realized this might be great for dog owners who need to walk their dogs, or for people to go feed the stray cats they usually take care of.
Anyway, below are all the details regarding the lockdown taken from @cgckuwait

They didn’t even do this in Beijing! Mass hysteria.
I think the virus will spread no matter what. And lockdowns will only delay the inevitable. The best thing would be to just let life return to normal and let people take precautions by wearing mask and gloves to work and also maintain social distancing. There will be casualties but eventually the virus will go away. I like Sweden’s approach to this. I know a lot of people might disagree with me on that one
I agree with you that lockdowns, or anything else for that matter, will not stop the spreading. From what I understand, the most important outcome of these measures is to slow down and contain the spreading so that the medical resources are not completely overwhelmed and hopefully more lives can be saved.
Regarding other countries like Sweden and Germany, I think it’s a slippery slope to compare to any of them because there are so many factors that come into play, including culture (habits/food/social interactions, etc.), demographics, medical resources and protocols, and even genetics. Therefore, the response plans will most probably have to be uniquely designed for each country or region.
At the end of the day, I don’t think anyone out there knows how to best tackle this issue yet and it will take a lot of trial and error to find consistently reliable solutions. Until then, our best bet is to follow instructions.and let the qualified professionals do their job.
Its very frustrating on so many levels, but the only way to stay positive and cope with it is to see it as a unique and humbling life experience for all of us, and a real opportunity to rethink how we approach everything in our lives.

It wouldn’t hurt to have some faith in people to be responsible
If the shutdown continues until the end of the year and then the goverment decides to reopen, What do you think will happen? The cases will rise again. Do they shut down again after that or realize Sweden was right all along?
What you’re saying makes a lot of sense for sure, but my point is we cannot be certain that what others are doing will work in the long run either, and even if it does, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be as successful here. Maybe Kuwait will end up with more cases than *place your favorite country here* but fewer deaths, maybe not. No one really knows. There will be all kinds of losses everywhere, however, I believe that our best bet right now is to do our part by following the government’s instructions so that they can get more reliable results to their actions and adjust accordingly.
Agree with this. I think the virus is now out of control and there is little that can be done to fully contain it. This full lockdown is being blown out of proportion in my opinion. It’s too late to react this way. Just let each one be responsible for himself. Wear gloves, wash hands, mask, maintain social distance and take all the necessary precautionary measures when outside.
Were you not here the past 2 months? They let us be responsible for ourselves and look where it got us.
Discipline and Responsibility isn’t very well implemented here with citizens many people are being safe but the others who aren’t complying made us reach this point.
So please don’t compare us to Beijing or any other city
In Spain back in march you are only accepted to go out and buy groceries and any other activity is fined and punished my dad was there
Comply and Be humble its few weeks if we all work together we can end this.
Stay Safe All.
‘few weeks’
never, its going to be like this for months. the R0 isn’t going down.
we (Bahrain) currently have a R0 of 1.14. all the GCC are going up.
Wtf, KSA, Bahrain and UAE, Jordan, Egypt had periods of full lockdown. What planet are you living on Chip!
A planet where Beijing isn’t in KSA, Bahrain and UAE, Jordan and Egypt.
Also I don’t think any of these places had it nearly as long as 3 weeks. Or for the entire country. Also none of these places are known for their good handling of corona and are not flattening the curve.
Dubai was 3 weeks
Jordan begs to differ
Jordan is the best 😉
They completely eviscerated their outbreak.
+1
All of the countries mentioned were on 24 hour lock-down for the more than 3 weeks. Quit moaning and move to Beijing if you prefer.
As usual nothing is clear.
They say we r allowed to go to bakkalas. But how? We have one appointment to coop per week only
You have the window of 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm…good luck!
I rely on restaurants. I cannot cook. Are restaurants banned too?
Delivery from restaurants have been suspended.
Open a can.
It’s easy.
I live in Jleeb. The government is saying life will return to normal after may 30. I don’t know what that means for jleeb. Will the lockdown in Jleeb get lifted after may 30?
A fellow Jleebian told me so
The free walking time (if people comply with safe tips) I see it as a must for the psychological purpose for citizens especially here in Kuwait all people are usually going out every day every weekend and abroad every time they can so a full lockdown will make people more tend to break the lockdown and psychologically you can’t expect their behavior.
There is a clause in there that states delivery services will remain open for “food outlets” along with pharmacies & cooperatives so I think we can still order food…
Or did I not read this correctly?
I read it the same way!
No restaurants, I think those food outlets are the ones offering catering to the airport staff, quarantine people etc
Well… Its going to be tuna & corn flakes for the next 20 days for me then… May be things in jleeb will remain as they r since we’re cut off from the rest of the country anyway… Will find out by today & tomorrow…
Tune cornflakes and pizza for me! Lol just picked up a few frozen ones from Yelo
See u on the other side if we get through this hahahahaha 😀
How difficult is it to cook a meal for yourself?!
I like the convenience of delivery 😅
I bet you typed that with your hands as you ate your biryani with your feet. You know the one your “chef” prepared.
I made my family pizzas one night and tacos the next using YouTube. I’m 17. And if you can’t cook, suck it up and make a sandwich. This is a matter of life and death for some.
it’s going to be the daily zombie apocalypse!
I can’t find any info about the airport? I’m scheduled to fly back to US in a week???
Airport isn’t affected
They mention necessary facilities continue
They’ve closed all flights out again. All Qatar airways flights were cancelled and gulf air. Start again June 6th
There are flights to India, Iran, Egypt, Bulgaria flying out today. We will have to see which other commercial flights open up soon.
where did you see this information? I received different information, and have no news from Qatar airways whom I have a reservation with?
Are supermarkets like Sultan Centre etc. permitted to continue their delivery services during this lockdown?
I didn’t get my Sultan Center order that was supposed to be delivered last night during the curfew.🤔 No call and no delivery.
Not clear. I’ve been told only coops will be open, I’ve also been told bakalas and supermarkets will continue to deliver. Nothing is clear right now.
Sounds silly but can my kids ride a bike outside while I walk? My six year old is freaking out about not being able to ride his bike for twenty days.
Yes if he’s with you he can ride when your walking during the designated time.
I guess so since it isnt considered as a vehicle haha
Oh I hope it is allowed!! If not put the back wheel on center blocks and make it a stationary bike!
I bet those with small kids wish they had a big version of that little wheel that you see in mouse cages they use to exercise in.
you can go out daily for a walk from 4:30 to 6:30PM within ur area only.
no cars allowed only walking
I just found this official post from the gov and it says no bikes allowed. Just walking.
https://twitter.com/salemq8app/status/1259193938038214656?s=21
how many of their accounts do i need to follow so I can stay up to date? they posted it on twitter but not on their instagram? why can’t they post the same info on both accounts?
https://twitter.com/CGCKuwait/status/1259192534586273797
And of course it’s only in Arabic.
I’m sure the grocery stores are going to be a mad house today!! I think the pandemic has really caused people to think all the food will disappear.
I’m sorry for those who rely on restaurants. just get some canned food and snacks.Do a 20 day Doritto challange haha! If you have an oven, you would not believe how easy it is to make homeade pizza dough from scratch. Or you can make little pizzas, just buy the flat bread (pita style) that is so available everywhere. Or try intermittent fasting (it is Ramadan by the way :)) with a simple iftar meal per day.
It is not the food will disappear, it is that there will not be easy access. 30 minutes a week to the grocery store is not enough.
Based on what I saw personally, as well as on Instagram, today had to have added a significant amount of virus transfer…i predict a surge in cases in 7-10 days. They created a horrible scenario, even worse than it had been for the last month, here in Mahboula
yup, you can’t tell 4 million people you have 24 hours to stock up on food for 3 weeks and not expect chaos
Yeah, they should’ve announced this weeks in advance to give people enough time to safely prepare.
Anyone know why the walking leeway is restricted to two hours and not open? My initial thinking is that they are crowding more people rather than spreading them out, am i wrong?
If it’s open then it’s called a normal day. This is a lockdown which is why I’m surprised we even have 2 hours. But yeah, it’s gonna be total chaos.
This is my point exactly Mark . Technically this is NOT a lockdown. A lockdown would eliminate the possibility of the entire population of Kuwait walking around for no reason (in a single 2 hour slot) , and certainly not encourage it. I still don’t understand why they’ve created this leeway. And if they are committed to this for some reason, why not let it be the same hours as before? Which will definitely spread the traffic.
I think we should all have been under complete lock down already from before. No going out to walk or anything. Food can continue to be delivered.
Good point. I will mention though that it’s only whithin ur area AND no driving at all.
They did it probably because they don’t want backlash from the people. Since other countries allow individuals to go out for exercise
Dubai didn’t allow people to go out to exercise. They just started allowing them now once the lockdown was over.
If you think about it, they were pretty intelligent in suggesting those timings because they know that many will not be around as they are preparing for Iftar. Had they given after Iftar timings, can you imagine the number of people rushing out for a walk!
True after iftar is the best timing, but this is like the next best thing.
In Kuwait walk paths are always at their peak before iftar in Ramadan. Not many Kuwaitis prepare their own iftar
Mark, You should post about your upcoming adventures while creating your gourmet meals in the kitchen. (I’m short on entertainment material) haha.
There needs to be some clarification is to which companies can still deliver, because I do not trust the co-ops, their products aren’t great for me and their workers keep testing positive for covid-19.
The total lockdown is smart as they have brought back their citizens from countries where the strand has mutated. Better to be safe and let everyone recover for a while.
Another good use during this time would be for them to follow-up on the plans of reducing the illegal expats.
It is going to be tough but take each day as it comes.
I guess food delivery is available if I am not mistaken by the statement ” no home delivery except for Food outlets, coops and pharmacies “
Restaurants aren’t allowed to deliver.
For those of us that have moved and haven’t changed the civil id, you will need a auto or PACI number (in Arabic known as a raqam Sali) along with your civil id number when registering to shop online. This is usually on the building or house and looks like a license plate. Some newer places don’t have them yet like mine and so you can look it up on the Kuwait Finder app by letting them know your location and zooming in to see your auto number. You just tap on the locator where your place is and it will display the PACI number. Once I got that number, it changed my ability to shop in my area. Woot woot!
Correction…*raqam aali
If you think about it, they were pretty intelligent in suggesting those timings because they know that many will not be around as they are preparing for Iftar. Had they given after Iftar timings, can you imagine the number of people rushing out for a walk!
I wonder if the crime rates have fallen with these curfews? Domestic violence will probably increase with total lockdown haha! Imagine, no traffic accidents for the next 20 days!!
ITT : Arm chair medical and sociology experts.
You can book your weekly shopping from your area’s CoOp
https://www.moci.shop/Associations/WebPages/index.aspx
It’s pretty useless for an area like Salmiya though. All of Salmiya can’t share 1 coop over three weeks.
I’ve been trying for a week to book a time to shop at the Salmiya coop, everytime, no appointments available. Hope they fix this.
The only way to fix it is to allow Salmiya residents to book appointments at the private supermarkets like sultan, lulu etc. Salmiya’s population is one of the largest at around 300,000. The coop can probably handle around 10,000 customers a week with the social distancing rule. So no way it can work. It can in areas like Bayan and Mishref where they each have around 45,000 residents but not in Salmiya or Hawalli.
I am sure the private groceries wil be added. If not, They will be losing a lot of business for 3 weeks haha. Their delivery service is already overwhelmed
Does anyone know if https://www.moci.shop/Associations/WebPages/index.aspx still applies? It says morning vs curfew hours still.
yeah as in do u want to go in the morning, or do you want to go in the evening.
What is a ‘Food Outlet’ ?
Why restaurants are closed?
There are people with disabilities, special needs diet, have no kitchen, very old people and those who work outside during curfew. ALL of these rely on resultants for food.
No idea, Eureka seems to be deemed as “essential” but not food
https://www.instagram.com/p/B_92doXpX21/
After the “riots” and people not abiding by laws I’d prefer it if they impose a complete lockdown where no one could leave their homes. As far as I know co-ops do deliver round the clock and they have food delivery services provided by the kcc (no idea what it stands for) which they serve to quarantined individuals. All businesses should be shut down even private hospitals that aren’t taken over by the gov. They should have mandatory tests weekly too, it’s gonna be a hurt like a bitch though having that thing up your nose.
How do i order delivery from my local Co-Op?
Call them or access them online. Search the co-op through a search engine, my parents ordered 1 small bottle of box (those tiny kid sized ones) past midnight and it arrived in 15 mins.
I assume you do not live in Jleeb. Because i do and i tried signing up with lulu, carrefour and oncost (which does have a grocery shop here) and none of them deliver to Jleeb.
i assume you didn’t bother wasting your time reading what I wrote and prefer having people feel sorry for you rather than having a solution to your issue.
From my understanding…. Delivery from co-ops are only for shareholders. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I get my coop to deliver without any issues. I am not a shareholder.
Did you call them or online?
I did it online but it had a two hour window only from 7-9 pm. Then the entire website would lock outside the time frame. I haven’t tried it though during this full curfew yet.
Wonder how difficult it can get to repatriate expats during a total lockdown…..
What about people in Jleeb and Mahboula who rely on getting food from KRC? Its going to get very nasty
I have an infant boy whose vaccination is dated for the 15th of this month. I wanted to know if I can honor this appointment during the curfew hours? If yes how can I go about it?
Don’t take my word on this but if you have the appointmemt paper/card, I don’t think the police will give you trouble. But you may want to ask around about this
I believe they heard you. This link might help : https://curfew.paci.gov.kw/request/create
Thanks!!
Unfortunately we have a lot of people who have no grasp of social distancing. Some factors (i.e. sharing a room with 10 other guys) are not preventable. We’ll be waiting outside the supermarket on those spaced out chairs only to have everyone swarm the table with the gloves. Complete idiots.
Recent news of Khaldiya Co-op stating that 103 of their 260 employees have the virus does not entice me to want to go to the co-op for groceries. It is going to be whatever is at home for 3 weeks.
This may sound somewhat crude and gauche even to suggest but OBGYNs everywhere are going to have their hands full 9 months later with having to deliver so many quarantine babies conceived during extended periods of lockdowns and curfews.
Protection is key. Hope better sense prevails over coops and supermarkets in that at least some of them choose to freely disburse condoms to all of their customers, at check-out.
Besides physical distancing is prime even between conjugal partners- I still dont see enough promotional literature and brochures that speak of physical intimacy as a contraindication during the time of Covid.
Trying to use those British council ilets classes to the fullest aren’t we, I’m sure you can find a few other big words you can add in there.
R u d e
Don’t mind him, he’s always like that.
Question Ahmed – are you a fan of Isaac Mizrahi?
Today the Kuwait times reported that the Salmiya Co-op is closing after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus
Mark what about DHL/FedEx/Postaplus? Are they shutting down?
as of right now yes, but hopefully that will change
I have about 23 shipments that are slooooowly making their way to me. I pray that they will still make it through but I highly doubt it.
How do people without a civil ID get groceries? Like those on visitor visa? They can’t use the website without inputting the CIvil ID number, right?
bakala, private supermarkets
Ouch
Looks like Sultan Center just discontinued deliveries because of the total curfew. I guess in order to get food, you are going to have to go to the co-op. I have no clue what visitors are supposed to do.
Even if you have a civil ID, if you live in Salmiya you’re gonna have a hard time getting an appointment at the coop. There are 300,000 other people who are competing for the same limited appointments.
Does anyone here know where to get tested for corona if you have fever and headache?
Call MOH hotline, they will come to you to test 151
Everything aside, may we take a second to appreciate the impeccable translation?
Also, what was the point of the drive-thru covid-19 testing zones when now there’s this full lockdown? Who will be using it now?
Sultan Center and Others are now added to the COOPs list.
https://www.moci.shop/Associations/WebPages/index.aspx
Yup got added at midnight
I realize there’s no use dwelling on the forensics of it all but this total circuit breaker/ lockdown is too little too late. It should ideally have come when the number of cases were in their hundreds- around two or three hundred for optimizing on flattening of the curve.
Need clarity… Are we allowed to walk in our neighborhood or just within the building compound?
You can walk around your block or 2/3 blocks etc from your place. As long as you don’t got out of your area. For example. I live in hawally and I walked 5 blocks and back to my place in 65 minutes. Did not go out of hawally.
