New Solar Air Conditioner Bus Stop

The photo above is of a new bus stop that has been developed by the Kuwait Public Transport Company and features solar air conditioning to keep waiting passengers cool in the summer as well as warm and dry in the winter.

Looks ok I guess but can we please not use beige and go with blue like my mockup above? Our original bus stops were blue and it adds a bit of color to an already very beige environment. For more pictures of the bus stop check out @kuwaitcommute

I’m with your mockup design vs. beige color and i’m sure they could have come up with a better design if they gave the chance to the talented Architects in Kuwait.

P.s: Can someone tell them to fix the Typo (technical) under “Instructions” placed on the door that can be seen in the last picture on their Instagram page.

oh for ef sake! first get the story straight, these are funded by the al hajery company, second you’re hitting on the lack of stylish color pattern? the emphasis on fashion and cool in this blog drowns out basic humanity. here is a great privately funded humanitarian initiative and all we can notice is the lack of hip color? ((maybe just maybe beige reflects the heat more…)

I second your call Mark. The blue color is aesthetically proper, considering the surrounding landscape, and is symbolically linked to the blue buses.

About time, but like a commentator said earlier, the design could have been better. The office I work for were contacted by a representative of the Hawally Governorate back in 2015. We did a couple of pro-bono designs incorporating air-conditioning and a drinking water fountain etc, submitted our concepts, never heard from them again. If you are interested, here is one of the design options: https://www.instagram.com/p/uZ9X_3oP03/?igshid=8nkr7ufnw19c

They better save their money on the paint and leave it to the weather that will take care of how it will eventually look, lol.

I agree on the blue – anyone have an input to the company that put it up? Blue, red, green, purple – anything but yellow, brown, beige….please add some color!

Where was this before? Dubai already had these for years! Let’s hope nobody ruins this for everybody.

Personally im against any colours in kuwait that arent white or light sand stone. If it were my choice all structures that weren’t white (or almost white) would be taxed and sidewalks would also be a imitation sandstone. Dark colours absorb heat and require more electricity to cool, we shouldn’t have to pay huge amounts of electricity because of personal taste, you can have any colour you like but prepare to be taxed for it and one step further you can increase the tax level as the colour gets darker. Also non leds should be outlawed and triple layered windows should be encouraged.

you know all the colors can come in shades lighter than light sandstone right? But putting that aside, your thinking method is so 1960s. Instead of taxing structures that aren’t “white”, you should maybe consider something more advanced? Like doesn’t have to be very futuristic maybe borrowing an idea from the 80s? For example, you could introduce legislation requiring all buildings to use double glazed windows or structures to have a certain amount of insulation. Maybe introduce a new green building code, maximum energy requirements, you know… things that actually would make a difference. Taxing non-white colored buildings? Yeah that’s going to solve the electricity problem 🤦🏼‍♂️

Mark you know i was giving an example, like i said the taxation works on shades not colours. Double glazing increases costs? People dont want to pay extra plus people could simply say they double glazed. It’s alot easier to tell if you have a building that isnt the a specific colour compared to double glazing or insulation which is inside the building and cannot be seen. Lets say we follow your idea, how do we tell if a building is following the necessary insulation requirements without wasting time going into their houses? How does the government make money out of it? workers dont grow on trees and they need to be paid. How do older buildings need to pay to have their houses use this new insulation requirements? Plus I already talked about triple layered windows, triple glazing, we have double glazing on our windows and you can still fry an egg on them. My method is fast, cheap, conspicuous and easy to make money out of which increases the incentive for the gov to do it.

Count your blessing- it could have been a lot worse. Imagine if they painted it pink instead.

I am just glad they thought to take care of their customers most of whom are the blue collared and without representation and who for the most part have to work outside in extreme conditions. Let’s hope these AC shelters are serviced and well maintained and they become the new normal for Kuwait. Hope the folks@ City Bus also take notice.

More importantly lets hope they have a long term plan and have more of these bus stops distributed evenly around the high expat localities. Just one at a stop wont be enough; depending on their capacity they need at least 3 at the high density areas

I feel so horrid when i am driving back from work on 30 and see people standing at the bus stops near Mangaf and Mahaboula trying to get some shade from the shadow of the over head pedestrian bridges or under the shade of one or two solitary trees that may be close by.
