Fine Dine in Riyadh

LPM

Since getting a visa to Saudi is so easy now I figured I’d share a list of some popular fine dining restaurants in Riyadh. Fine dining isn’t something we have a lot of in Kuwait so turning a trip to Riyadh into a dining experience is really easy.

AOK Kitchen

When I’m driving to Riyadh I tend to get there around lunch and Cipriani is usually my first stop. I actually think about lunch during the drive since it’s like a reward at the end of the long journey. Anyway, check out the list below of some of the popular fine dining spots in Riyadh:

Beefbar

Amazonico
AOK Kitchen
Beefbar
Billionaire
Cipriani
Coya
LPM
Myazu
Nobu
Nusret
Zuma

If there is anything else you think should be on the list let me know:

This is actually true
Have heard about this from quite a few people who’ve lived there a couple of years
A lot of people tend to say this

It’s something people tend to say but that’s all there is to it, it’s just talk.

if you go to a bad restaurant (which there are tons and tons of here in Kuwait) you will get crappy food, but if you go to a good restaurant (be it here, in Dubai, or timbaktu), the food will be good.

So go to 5 shitty restaurants in Kuwait and 5 great restaurants in Dubai and your opinion will change.

I’m talking about fast food joints like McDonalds and Burger King.

People from Dubai tell me that even the fast food here tastes so much better.

I just came back from Dubai, fast food in Kuwait is much better but other restaurants Dubai wins. There was a time around 10 -15 years ago where most food in kuwait was better but thatnisnt the case anymore

From my own personal experience, Five Guys in Dubai was a lot better than Five Guys in Kuwait. Their hot dogs here were too heavy and greasy, but in Dubai it was digestible. I call BS on Kuwait having better fast food. I even had a Big Mac here recently and it tasted the same as every Big Mac I’ve had outside of Kuwait.

I know this is a very random question, but as someone that has never been to a fine dining restaurant, what would be the average per person bill in KWD at these places? I know there are many variables like each restaurant will have different prices, the kind of dishes that you order or even the quantity of food that you eat, but as a ballpark figure of someone with an average appetite?

Lunch menu at cipriani which includes a starter, main and dessert is like 18kd if I remember correctly. If you don’t want to pick from the lunch menu, expect to pay around 8+ for a pasta, 14+ for a main. Tiramisu is like 8kd.

Have only been to Cipriani in New York… is it better in Dubai/Saudi? I thought the food was average but their bellinis and the meringue cake are delicious

I’d add these to the list:

Italian fine dining:
San Carlo Cicchetti
Scalini
Signor Sassi
MAMO Michelangelo

Greek:
Meraki
Halepi

Middle Eastern:
Em Sherif Cafe
Lusin
Shababik

Japanese:
Roka
Nozomi (Reopening soon)

Indian:
Amaly
Maharaja East by Vineet
Tokyo

Steaks:
Porterhouse

Burgers:
Marble Cuisine (The best burger in Saudi)

French:
Le Maschou

Chinese/Dim Sums:
Yuatcha
Mr Chow (Opening Soon)

They even have a Hakkasan in Saudi. Too bad the accent here in Kuwait is only on casual American diners and Lebanese and Indian restaurants and variations, thereof. It’s not just the lack of variety of cuisines on tap locally but the fine dining scene itself is on a sabbatical in Kuwait.

The closest thing in Kuwait is Ricardo at the St Regis or Riviera by the Four Seasons @ the Avenues till it lasted. The LPM in Riyadh : on balance I like what I see even though it is somewhat kitschy for my taste.

I meant the closest thing to fine dine in Kuwait….,
The Hunt Room at the Sheraton was another jewel sadly lost to the ravages of time and dumbing down of public taste.
